What would the point of that be? We need to get everything we can out of him right now.

He's got NFL-level athleticism. The only scenario where he stays 5 years is Kirk Johnson-level of injuries.  If he produces in any of his first four years, he's gone, so use him as much as possible while he's here.

He’s a raw athlete in regards to his current position. Many players have NFL athleticism who never sniff the NFL.

In my opinion, the odds of him being able to play his fifth year in college outweigh the potential benefit of playing him an extra game or two where he may only see a couple snaps. Most importantly, if he’s still “working to get fully back” he may not be completely healed or strong enough to play without increasing the risk of further injury.

Am I alone in wondering where the hell these expectations/hopes for Whittington come from for what he‘ll immediately add? Not saying he’s trash but he’s had zero live action carries in college and his HS competition level wasn’t exactly NFC West. He might be an immediate lightning bolt but let’s tap the breaks.

You might be. In his catch and run, he showed something no other skill player here has done with the wiggle and acceleration.

Herman said in Thursday press gathering that Whittington is still experiencing some pain from injury due to scar tissue.

Hope Texas doesn't rush Whit back too quickly from this injury....

Should definitely give him another week which guarantees his redshirt too I believe

"Tom Herman, Texas uncertain when Jordan Whittington will return"

ByJEFF HOWE 7 hours ago

With Texas facing the longest of odds to make the Big 12 championship game heading into Saturday’s road trip to face 14th-ranked Baylor, there’s a chance true freshman running back Jordan Whittington could get to preserve a season of eligibility. The plan was for the 247Sports Composite five-star prospect to be a major part of what the Longhorns wanted to do on offense in 2019, but Whittington is still dealing with complications stemming from a September surgery to correct an issue related to a sports hernia Whittington dealt with in high school.

When delivering the latest injury update ahead of the Baylor game on Saturday (2:30 p.m., FS1), head coach Tom Herman didn’t give an indication one way or another as to whether or not Whittington will see the field for the first time since the team’s season-opening win over Louisiana Tech on Aug. 31.  “He's been cleared,” Herman said. “We'll just see how he feels and how pregame goes and all that stuff.”

Should Whittington play in four or fewer games in his Texas (6-4, 4-3 Big 12) debut and head into the 2020 season as redshirt freshman, it would only be a coincidence according to Herman. The head coach said Whittington’s lack of playing time isn’t about him getting a year of eligibility back, but rather making sure he’s capable of performing without the discomfort he’s been feeling while trying to get back in the mix in recent weeks.

“He's got to be able to run full speed without pain and without hurting the team,” Herman said. “This was not about four games for J-Whitt. This is about him trying to fight through some of the scar tissue and swelling and pain that he's that he's still having.”  Whittington recovered from his initial surgery last fall in time to get back on the field and help Cuero win the UIL Class 4A Division II state championship. In a game that took place weeks before he participated in the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Whittington scored six total touchdowns and broke the UIL all-conference title game rushing record set by Johnathan Gray and the Class 4A championship game record set by Eric Dickerson with 334 rushing yards.

After getting his first surgery done in Houston, the Longhorns sent Whittington to Philadelphia to have his second procedure performed by Dr. William Meyers, the man considered the godfather of athletic pubalgia repair. The second surgery was required after Whittington’s preseason issues built up to him suffering a torn adductor muscle in the Louisiana Tech game.  The procedure is one the Longhorns were hoping Whittington would be able to avoid.  "It was repaired in high school and it nagged him a little bit in spring ball, but he missed zero practices in spring ball," Herman said when the injury and surgery were announced on Sept. 2.

"Nagged him a little bit in summer workouts, but he missed zero workouts,” he added. “I mean, it did not sideline him. We knew it was nagging."  Closing in on three months since the surgery, Whittington is still being nagged by the issue to the extent that it’s unclear when (or if) he’ll be back on the field before the end of what was expected to be a monster season for the newcomer.

Whittington didn't play at ISU did he? If he's 100 percent there's no harm in getting him game reps at this point. LA Tech plus the three remaining games still lets him RS if that's the path they decide on.

Of course, knowing how this injury lingered for him and what the original timetable for recovery was, I'm doubtful he's 100 percent. He shouldn't be on the field at anything less.

They said last week he still wasn’t 100%.  Hard to say when he will be, but I agree he’ll likely play once he is.

From yesterday's update....

Collin has been about the most disappointing senior season I've seen in a decade. Another game without him means another limited offense where we get to see Eagles and Washington drop passes, Burt take up space and Smith ride the bench again. I'm ecstatic!

What happened to Foster during the Iowa State game? Looked like a hand injury.

Quote from article 6 posts up...

"According to Herman, the sophomore who has dealt with hamstring and shoulder problems throughout the season is now working his way through a neck issue that limited him in practice this week. Like Johnson, Foster’s availability will be a game-time decision."

Lots of injuries heading into the Texas Tech game...

Quote

Herman gave a lengthy injury report to start his press conference. Linebacker Juwan Mitchell aggravated a hamstring issue prior to the Baylor game. Corner Anthony Cook and tight end Cade Brewer are both out for the game with the Red Raiders, though Herman said he expects Brewer back for the bowl game. Tackle Samuel Cosmi sprained his ankle and was limited in Monday’s practice.

Receiver Devin Duvernay had a knee contusion swell up and was limited in Monday’s practice. Corner Jalen Green sprained his ankle and is listed as questionable. Running back Keaontay Ingram was said to be improving from his ankle sprain that knocked him out of the second half versus Baylor.

Receiver Collin Johnson is “probably bowl game,” according to Herman. Safety DeMarvion Overshown joined the ankle sprain bunch, with Herman hoping his injury will improve this week. Finally, running back Jordan Whittington had more imaging done on his groin in order to determine the cause of his recurring pain.

Thx for this update @satyanash

Per Wells & Nahlin:

TEAM

-- More uncertainty at DB: Jalen Green is probably out; expect D'Shawn Jamison and Kobe Boyce to get the starts. BJ Foster practiced this week and might be available. DeMarvion Overshown is doubtful. They should do everything in their power to not play Kenyatta Watson. He has played in three games already and the fourth should be saved for the bowl, if possible.

-- There could be a couple of suspensions stemming from minor infractions that should only last a series or two.

-- Happy Thanksgiving.

18 names on this list. Fucking 18, the most of any team. It has truly been a season of WTF else can go wrong. Bad coaching, bad scheme, bad preparation, bad penalties and decisions on the field. And why the fuck does Texas keep having twice as many injuries as any other team? Truly a season to just forget. 😢

That quote by Ossai at the beginning of the season on how teams won’t be able to handle our physicality makes me laugh. He was drunk on Herman koolaid. Our coaches must teach that the only way to be physical is to sacrifice the health of your body through poor technique.

What was the deal with Jalen Green today? Saw him on like 1 series in the second half but that's it?
Also what happened to Keontay? He started but was standing on the sideline most of the game

Ingram came up gimpy. I didn’t think Green was gonna play until I saw him in the game. Thought he was hurt.
