sidenote - herbert ross (the director) had a fascinating career path thru choreography and broadway, and then into directing.  

goodbye mr chips/owl and the pussycat in the late 60's (he was already in his 40's).

then moved onto his neil simon phase (sunshine boys, the goodbye girl, california suite, i ought to be in pictures, then max dugan returns - one of my favorites).

also mixed in turning point in the 70's.  

then in 1984, he directed footloose - as the choreography comes full circle.  also does protocol and secret of my success, and wraps up the zany comedies with my blue heaven in 1990.  and steel magnolias, which is also quite zany.

interesting dude.
