I like starting threads that die in here, I thought this was cool (and probably dropped a few thousand on this - I got a second job to afford it at the time)

It's been revived (again),. but this time it's sticking.  It actually came together back in June.   They have have one of the original developers/software engineers who worked on the INN project, and he recently reverse-engineered the server code from the client code.

This new host, "Inn Barn" was created from scratch and designed to restore some of the functionality of the former banks of DOS servers. In this initial release the server is a multi-threaded 64-bit host handling many of the original membership and object connectivity and storage features.

In addition a 64-bit application known as the InnProxy is designed to run on each remote computer that also runs the Inn Client Application. That client is configured to communicate with the Host via the Proxy as a relay!

Alternatively runs in Wine or Crossover so Linux and MacOS users can enjoy using it as well.

INN is back! Check out the INN Barn server and MedievaLands, the modern remake of Yserbius. INN Barn (http://innbarn.com) is INN 2.4 in all it's glory. Almost everything is working, including Red Baron, all the 'cano games, and Boogers. Download the client here: http://www.sierrahelp.com/Misc/INNBarn.html MedievaLands (https://medievalands.com) is a modern Yserbius with many improvements and the same core game. Come and play in the Clubhouse or MedievaLand. Challenge someone to a game of boogers in SierraLand and remember the days of yore, when we all gamed incessantly on the INN network at $6 an hour. This group is designed for people to meet each other outside INN and arrange for times and places to meet in the client. Invite your friends to this group and spread the word. Welcome home!

Earliest gaming type service I remember is DWANGO. I never used it, but remember friends telling me about it. The idea of playing online with more than 1 other player sounded so amazing. At the time, the only PC multiplayer in my world was 1v1 direct connect.

I think the first game I ever played in a lobby with other players was Quake 2.

Seems like a bunch of companies would be making full-blown pseudo-copies of TSN/INN that are....not quite MMOs like WOW, but not shitty Facebook games either.

I mean shit, we have a shit-ton of "party game" packs on various game consoles that could have been turned into an MMO-style layout.
