Superseding indictment filed today with new charges.

Quote

Federal prosecutors presented a superseding indictment in Austin, charging Natin Paul, aka Nate Paul, 36, with four new counts related to wire fraud.

According to court documents, Paul, allegedly conspired to obtain money from limited partners by falsely representing that he would isolate the partnership’s assets to be used exclusively for the benefit of the partnership. The superseding indictment alleges that Paul’s scheme allowed unrestricted use of limited partnership funds.

Adding to the initial eight counts of false statements to lenders, Paul is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three counts of wire fraud. The new charges carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison with fines of $250,000 per count. Each of the eight counts in Paul’s initial June 6 indictment carries a maximum penalty of up to 30 years in prison with a fine of $1 million. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

@YGIFS you were so sure what would happen next. Why the silence now?

Wasn't being purposely silent.  Gears of justice move slowly, indicted famous people out front shoulda told ya'.

I didn't hear or read anything on Nate for the last 5 months as per this thread/your post (except for the thing about his sister cashing out and moving from downtown to a west austin mansion).  But news is percolating again on Nate/WCC & the former AG.  I cannot help but assume that has something to do with the news that Paxton is now venue shopping on his other trial(s).  Nate doesn't have much choice but to try and cut a deal in exchange for real, actual, human-based testimony on Paxton's CRE involvement with WCC which conveniently times up with other securities violations finally coming to light---past behaviors having a light shone on them at trial and what-not).  They had to wait for the impeachment/removal trials, I think we all knew that intuitively.  So now the next phase begins.  At this point though, I have no idea.  Twicehorn and other litigators would know infinitely more.  The few rumblings just indicate that it's a nuanced deal and he still needs to pay (literally and figuratively).  But when you're also talking about a sitting AG with lots and lots of friends in the legal community around the state, that's a tangled web.

Nate has three options---go to federal prison where he won't fare well at all, for a really long time.  Prolong this for a few years with half-measures and end up with his hairy ass upside down from a bridge in Tamaulipas.  Or rat out Paxton, get wiped out financially, do a few months/couple years in protective prison environs with no ability to deal with investments ever again and on double-secret probation for life---but he'd stay alive.  I'm certain he opts for the third one, but again---how that is actually arrived at is obviously being played close to the vest and I have zero way of knowing...the lawyers on here with that kinda experience would be best to inquire with.  But even they would likely admit, this is a pretty unique situation.  If Paxton weren't still in office, it'd be a no-brainer, but he's there for several years, probably even another term while his securities fraud case plays out and eventual appeals.  Plus, spoiler alert, it's complicated by the fact that via loose lips at the TPPF---Abbott has a raging desire, even more than before, to fuck with the cartels to prove he's serious.  but the catch is they don't launder money through all these Texas casinos and weed dispensaries that we've all come to enjoy.  They wash it through real estate.  And as Bill once said, therein lies the rub.

well, looks like Nate's case is heading in the wrong direction once again:

https://www.bizjournals.com/austin/news/2024/03/19/nate-paul-jail-mitte-foundation.html?utm_source=st&utm_medium=en&utm_campaign=ae&utm_content=AU&j=34743315&senddate=2024-03-19&empos=p4

The Mitte's can hold a grudge.  They're setting a dangerous precedent for Nate and they have the legal horses to see this through.

This is moving faster than I thought.  So either he's about to sell out his political ally or thoughts and prayers to the Paul family on Nate's pending prison 'accident'
