Why this is Rush’s greatest song.  (Posted today)

I don’t know if I can disagree.

Just watched this again.

I've never thought about this before, but do you think Slash got a little inspiration from the opening guitar riff from this song?

If you like Beato, this guy is in that vein.  He’s a session guitarist (and probably gets more into equipment than Beato does), and in the video below he talks about some of Glenn Campbell’s work (he was in Glenn’s band in his later years).

That interview with Jimmy Chamberlin is the best Beato interview I've seen yet.  For one thing, Rick stayed out of it, at least for the most part.  Jimmy is incredibly insightful, articulate, and studied.

Honestly, he's probably my favorite rock drummer of all time.

Watching his little "master class" at the end revealed something to this non-drummer that I never realized:  despite displaying a heaviness that is nearly unrivaled, he's a jazz guy at heart.  Watch his left foot.  He's keeping quarter note time on the hihat almost always.  He does his cymbal work almost exclusively on the ride.  Those are so characteristic of a jazz player, and in the preceding hour, it's very very clear he has studied all the greats, from Elvin Jones to Gene Krupa to Tony Williams and on to the rock guys.

His insight into finding what the song needs as opposed to cramming what he wants to play into the song should be burned into the minds of every young drummer.

And, he's clean.  Well done, Jimmy.  We almost lost you.  What a shame that would have been.

Honestly, before this I'd never really heard Chamberlin talk very much.  The guy is just super detailed when speaking.

Going to watch the rest of the Brendan O'Brien interview in a bit.

I had absolutely no idea that he played the guitar solo on "Hard to Handle."  Holy crap that's a great lead.

This guy makes fun of Beato in his videos and he's pretty funny.

God I hate this song with a passion. What's even worse is my wife loves it. She'll play it on purpose during road trips when she wants to be cheeky and annoy me. Ugh. Like, I'm way older than her but she the one that listens to old people music.

"..ain't that Mr Mister on the radio..."

Who the fuck listens to Mr Mister? I didn't even listen to Mr Mister when they were on the radio, the stereo. This dude just needed something that rhymes with Soul Sister.

Nails on a chalkboard this song is.

You nailed almost exactly what I was coming here to say about Chamberlin. The only thing I would add about his ability and artistry is the precision of his sticking, unreal hand-feet combinations, and god tier mastery & display of all the rudiments. I had already been playing drums for 15 years when I first saw him perform on the Siamese Dream tour. That led me to do a deep dive and follow his evolution, as well as to seek out a new teacher and resume formal instruction. Hugely influential. And like you mentioned, it’s so great to see him clean and healthy. After Kurt, Layne, and others, I was always dreading the Chamberlin shoe to drop. Thankfully he got himself right, and now playing better than ever. What a gem of a human and monster musician.

Been a fan of his channel for years. His music and industry knowledge gets him great guests, including those who rarely give interviews.

Love how he breaks down a song as well. Would love to have his studio.

I only recently started watching him. So I don’t know as much about him as many of you. But, I absolutely appreciate his effort to cover topics that I don’t normally see. From breaking down the telecommunications act, to professional musicians financial earning power is good stuff. Even the impact of AI, and statistical data on trends in music are great topics.
I also appreciate who he brings in for interviews. My knowledge of people behind the scenes is limited, so I enjoy being introduced to those type of guests.

I can't listen to the intro of Eye in the Sky without hearing in my head - "AND NOW THE STARTING LINEUP FOR YOUR CHICAGO BULLS!!!"

That is pretty wild - and sad.

198-1984 had around 56% of #1 hits from bands.  And that was during the era of Blondie, David Bowie, John Lennon's final album, Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie, etc.  Oh and Rick Astley ;)

This is an interesting resource
