Herman didn't want to put any more on Smith's plate, with him learning H and being the starting punt returner.

I get that, but as Rod Babers said on Longhorn Blitz... We desperately need running backs right now. Why convert people from other positions instead of using the guy who was the HS NPOY while playing a lot of RB in HS? Jake can go back to focusing on the slot and returning punts when we get some guys healthy. We have other options at slot and returner. If we have to use Gbenda and he looks like ass out there as a RB... this decision will be very questionable.

Whittington has sports hernia and headed to Philly to get it fixed and best case scenario out 4-6 weeks

Zach Shackelford went to Philly to have a procedure where a pin was surgically implanted into his ankle - he had chronic high ankle sprains. @Magus Ossis chime in if you have any idea.

But what does Philly have that you can't get in the state of Texas in terms of sports medicine care?

Herman mentioned the doc in Philly is the top sports hernia specialist but didn’t mention the name of the doc yet.

Only question I have is if Whittington had a hernia since last year why didn’t they get it fixed in the summer? Hernias don’t just fix themselves and at some point require surgery right?

Herman said it was fixed in HS....and that it was not torn at Texas according to prior MRIs.   It was basically just a pain mgmt issue.   They are now fixing a new tear which happened Saturday.

They probably see Jake as a pretty key part of the WR group,  especially with Moore out.

True. But that might change as a result of Whittington's status. I would not be surprised if Whittington misses the rest of the season recuperating from hernia surgery especially if he's been playing through pain since high school.
