IT Scoop Manning %s

2023

QB Arch Manning, Isidore Newman (New Orleans, LA)

Eric: 55%. Contingent upon the Texas offense continuing to play well as it has the last two weeks. Some might call that a hedge, but it should go without saying. The NIL pitch better be buttoned up. Aside poor performance on the field, that would be a potential hang up. It’s an all hands on deck recruitment.

Gerry: 45% and slowly going up. Georgia very much in it. Major media markets are key. This will be an NIL record breaker. Alabama, Ole Miss, and Clemson will get unofficial visits in October.

Justin: 49%. Texas remains the constant throughout this pursuit. Alabama sites think Bama-Texas. Georgia sites think Georgia-Texas. Clemson is taking on holy water. And even Fox News is getting involved. Putting a 70-piece on anyone that early on Saturday gets everyone’s attention. He’ll be back in the ATX on October 16th.

Do you not realize how stupid this sounds or do you fundamentally not understand how the bag game works?

I think it's all stupid. Both the argument being put forward, and the point I made. But judging from how our bag game has continued to not develop, would you be at all surprised if that wasn't an approach we would actually suggest? We suck at this part of the game so I would expect our response to suck as well.

TEXAS TAKES STEP FORWARD IN FIVE-STAR RECRUITMENT

Everyone I spoke with around five-star EDGE rusher Matayo Uiagalelei said that Texas took a step forward in this recruitment. This has been a great effort from Steve Sarkisian, who has ties to the family going back to his relationship with his older brother DJ Uiagalelei, and Jeff Banks who has been working hard to get him on campus.

I think there is a general assumption that Uiagalelei will be headed to Clemson regardless of everything else, but the sources I speak with out west tell me that the family wants him in a place that he fits best. There’s also a desire on the part of Uiagalelei to be his own man in a way.

Uiagalelei came in with his mother on the trip and the two were taken care of the entire time they were on campus. This recruitment isn’t close to being done, but it sounds like Texas has been able to establish itself as an early contender in this race at the moment.

Is GTS "go to sleep"? Thanks from an old.

Also, if it is Cook, what's up with our players spoiling commitments like this? I mean shit, keep it to yourself. Maalik did something similar back when Bryce was a silent by tweeting out the date which the internet immediately figured out.

They've been discussing this on XM84 all day yesterday and today. It's glorious. Listening to Dusty Dvoracek admonish the OU fanbase is one of the finer moments of irony in my fan lifetime.

On top of that, he had to suffer through calling our rout for the broadcast vs Tech lol.

Streaming 1150 in BCS has been pure gold today. Looch & Texags radio pure meltdown. Burn baby burn.

NickKnacks: Which ten 2023 recruits does Texas have the best chance of landing?

Texas has done an exceptional job early on in the 2023 class in recruiting top targets in the state of Texas as well as outside of state borders.

Since Sept. 1 especially, Texas has turned the heat up on top targets in various position groups while also emerging as a contender for multiple five-stars from across the country, including the No. 1 overall recruit in the country.

With another big 2023 weekend on the horizon for the game against Oklahoma State in mid-October, as the days pass it gets more and more important to continue to stay in communication with top junior prospects while also showing them a new look Texas team on the field.

Going back to when the Steve Sarkisian staff arrived in January, they have been more than proactive in aiming to become contenders for dozens of prospects, but now that the dust is starting to settle and trends are starting to show, which recruits have started to trend towards the Longhorns?

In this article, we'll take an early look at which ten prospects Texas has the best chance of landing in the 2023 class.

Rueben Owens II, Running Back, El Campo (Texas)

10578502.jpeg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320Rueben Owens (Photo: Nick Harris, 247Sports)

Despite decommitting from Texas after a short stint as a pledge in the spring and early summer, five-star running back Rueben Owens has been adamant about Texas being his top school moving forward. The fall has opened his eyes a bit more to other programs, and Georgia and Alabama are starting to become legitimate contenders moving forward, but Texas still remains the school to beat. With Owens stating in the past that he's a "Texas kid" in the sense that he wants to be a Longhorn, and given the running back production early in the season, things have never looked better since he decommitted. The only downside is that he doesn't plan to make his next commitment until late in the recruiting process, so Texas will have to be diligent in riding the wave with this one.

Johntay Cook, Wide Receiver, DeSoto (Texas)

10399419.jpeg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 WR Johntay Cook II (Photo: Collin Kennedy, 247Sports)

Since being offered by Texas very early on in his sophomore season, four-star wide receiver Johntay Cook has had Texas high on his list. With the arrival of Steve Sarkisian and along with him his philosophy of getting speedy receivers in space, the interest level has only grown. Alabama and Texas A&M are also heavily in this race as he was in attendance this past weekend for the Aggies' loss to Arkansas and is scheduled to be in Tuscaloosa this upcoming weekend for the Crimson Tide's clash with undefeated Ole Miss. Cook plans on returning to Texas for the Oklahoma State game.

Dalton Brooks, Athlete, Shiner (Texas)

10548982.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 2023 ATH Dalton Brooks (Photo: Nick Harris, 247Sports)

Four-star athlete Dalton Brooks has family ties to the Texas program by being cousins with freshman running back Jonathon Brooks, but that's not why he is on this list. Brooks made multiple trips to Texas over the summer and has the Longhorns at the top of his list along with Texas A&M. There is still a bit to play out in this recruitment as he will be making a select few out-of-state trips next summer, but I see Brooks staying in-state to play at the next level.

Arch Manning, Quarterback, New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman

10429328.JPG?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320Arch Manning on Texas visit (Photo: Mike Roach, 247Sports)

The No. 1 overall recruit in the country has been intrigued by Steve Sarkisian since before he was getting recruited by Texas, and that interest level has only grown. Manning took a summer trip to Austin and will be back in mid-October for Texas' clash with Oklahoma State, as Texas is focusing on only the five-star for its quarterback take in 2023. Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU and Clemson will also get visits this fall after Georgia got the opportunity to host first in which Kirby Smart and Co. made a big impression on Manning and his family. As this one continues to play out, the Texas staff continues to do just about everything they need to do to remain a legitimate contender.

Vernon Glover Jr., Cornerback, Dickinson (Texas)

10350024.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports)

It's still early in the recruitment for three-star cornerback Vernon Glover Jr., but Texas is one of only nine that have offered to this point and the Longhorns are emerging as the frontrunner. Glover is a Texas legacy and made a trip to Austin in July where he came out with rave reviews of the campus and staff. Considering Texas A&M's ties to Dickinson and an early offer from the Aggies as well, you can't count out Jimbo Fisher at this point. However, they will have to knock Texas off the top to keep the Dickinson momentum going.

Ryan Yaites, Safety, Denton (Texas) Guyer

10394434.JPG?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Mike Roach, 247Sports)

After taking a trip to Texas for the late-July pool party, four-star safety Ryan Yaites called it his best visit from the summer. His relationship with Blake Gideon is strong, and he is being sold on strong academics. Because of that same reason, Notre Dame is the main competition as it's hard to distinguish which of the two schools is the outright leader at this point. Texas will have a solid chance at keeping the talented defensive back within state borders.

Derion Gullette, EDGE, Marlin (Texas)

10516132.JPG?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 2023 Derion Gullette (Photo: Nick Harris, 247Sports)

While three-star EDGE Derion Gullette is still in the early stages of his recruitment, this is yet another that Texas will reap the benefits of getting in early on. Gullette has had a huge start to his junior season for Marlin, and the recruiting interest is only growing. He only holds four offers to this point from Baylor, TCU, Texas and Texas A&M, but Texas has done a ton of work in being the frontrunner in that group. Baylor will be a contender in this one, but given Gullette's relationship with multiple staffers including Chris Gilbert, the Bears will have to do a lot of work to win this one over Texas.

Avion Carter, Defensive Line, Amarillo (Texas) Tascosa

10594927.JPG?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 2023 DL Avion Carter (Photo: Nick Harris, 247Sports)

Texas has been active in the Panhandle in 2022 recruiting Brenen Thompson, and it may be worth it to stay up there in the 2023 class as they pursue four-star Avion Carter. The versatile 6-foot-5, 240 pound defensive lineman only made two trips during the summer to Texas Tech and Texas, but will be more active next summer in seeing more programs. The Longhorns are a family favorite and the staff already has one visit down that went really well. As long as Texas continues to pursue, this could be theirs to lose.

Isaiah Robinson, Offensive Line, Arlington (Texas) Lamar

10282971.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 OT Isaiah Robinson (Photo: Mike Roach, 247Sports)

The availability of big bodies in the 2023 class are scarce in the state of Texas, but Isaiah Robinson is one that will be highly-touted. Early on, USC and Texas are the two standing out for Robinson after summer trips to each school. This could be a recruitment that wraps up in the spring, so if Texas can continue to put in good work in the coming months, this could very well be an early addition to the 2023 class.

Liona Lefau, Linebacker, Kahuku (Hawaii)

10405150.JPG?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 Lione Lefau (Photo: Blair Angulo, 247Sports)

We have been bullish on Texas' chances in landing its first-ever recruit from the state of Hawaii, and that continues to be the case with four-star Liona Lefau. After taking a trip to Texas to camp and earning an offer soon after, Lefau has had Texas high on his list. BYU and Utah will be contenders, but this is an out-of-state battle worth fighting given Lefau's heavy early interest in the Longhorns.

Regarding Reuben Owens: I've been thinking about what Jaydon Blue tweeted during the game about how several Texas RB's got the chance to show what they can do and how Sark's offense shows off their entire skillset. It seems to me that if you're a RB,  ideally what you want out of college is enough chances to show that you're a stud without either being injured or carrying the ball so often that you're worn out by the time you get to the league.  An offense in which you get 10-12 touches per game is ideal from that point of view. I'll bet Keilen Robinson gets drafted after next year because, even though he's not starting, he'll have show that he's a complete badass. Some coach is going to realize that he's got a very unusual skillset and the fact that he's showing out on special teams shows that he's a "team"  guy and not a pre-madonna.  Even Bijan, who might get 15-20 touches per game going forward, is going to benefit from the fact that he's not being ground down into a pulp during college and the fact that his chances of being injured are greatly reduced.

To add to this, El Campo has a couple good running backs and Rueben splits carries with them now so he will be used to a system with more than 1 back. I know at least one game maybe more he wasn’t even the leading rusher. I think some backs do see the benefit these days of having multiple guys sharing the carries as well as the hits.

Lots more that goes into it for Owens but Kirby Smart uses his backs well. Look what Sark is doing with that group. Our 3rd and 4th stringers are eating. I've always said Georgia is the model for us, not Bama. Once Saban leaves the SEC will look completely different. We can stack 5 star backs up just like Georgia and get them carries. Difference is, Smart is still stuck thinking the run sets up the pass. Sark knows that creating space with sets and fast players sets up the run. What Bijan is doing right now is great, but if you put him in Sark's offense two years from now he would win the Heisman running away. If Owens doesnt want to step in that role so close to home hes crazy, but he'll follow Manning.

Bijan may win the Heisman this season if he keeps putting up the numbers he is now.

Totals (4 games) 70 carries, 436 yards, 5 TDs; 8 receptions, 145, 2 TDs

It'll probably be Bryce Young, it might be Matt Corral, but Bijan is set to put up even more numbers as he stays in games longer in conference play.

Yea who knows whats possible this year or next. My feeling is we are gonna come back to earth in the next few games, but the model is set. And we will have some serious transfer help for Bijan's run next year.

The Manning’s are not entrusting Arch’s development to Bill fucking O’Brien.

O'Brien will be getting a HC job almost for certain after this season. Definitely before Arch ever actually plays a game. Similar deal with Kiffin and Ole Miss; anyone actually expect him to still be there by 2023?

I can't see him landing at Alabama unless he first commits elsewhere, breaks it due the wheels falling off that program and then ends up liking whomever they get to inevitably replace O'Brien. Even then they've seemingly made it clear they do not want to go anywhere that already has an elite 2022 QB on board so some dynamics within the Bama QB room might end up having to change also.

edit: https://247sports.com/player/ty-simpson-46056473/      Though possible Simpson won't be seen as a hurdle to early playing time. He is highly rated but may not be a guy Arch and his family fear him being able to beat out.
