it’s silly to imagine a 6’7” kid with a huge frame could get to 300 lbs after a few years in a college strength program?  have you never followed college football?

It really is bizarre that anyone would think the idea of a 6’7” 17 year old turning into a 300 lb dude by 20, after eating and lifting for 3 straight year is impossible, but whatever.  It’s a metaphysical certainty he’s going to get bigger- the question is merely how much.

But how much does that shorten his wingspan?

The problem is, Coach Flood ain't playing no 300 lb tackle.

Gerry Hamilton: Texas-TCU visitor list includes over 20 4-stars

Quote

The No. 18 ranked Texas Longhorns host No. 4 TCU at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium in the last big visit weekend of the season. Steve Sarkisian and staff will welcome four official visitors, and all told more than twenty 5-star and 4-star prospects combined in the classes of 2023 and 2024. Inside Texas provides the latest visitor list with 35 hours until game time.

Official Visitors

Duce Robinson, TE, Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle

Texas has two tight ends in the 2023 cycle – Will Randle and Spencer Shannon – but you don’t turn down a prospect like Robinson. Also a standout on the baseball field, Robinson has been in contact with the Texas baseball staff as well. Georgia and USC are way out in front headed into the weekend.

DeAndre Moore Jr., WR, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco – Louisville commit

Likely one wide receiver spot remains open with the Cali-bred prospect heading to Austin this weekend. Moore took a visit to Georgia last weekend and the Dogs remain in the hunt. This’ll be Moore’s second trip on the Forty Acres.

Ja’Kobi Lane, WR, Mesa (Az.) Red Mountain

The USC commitment was offered by Texas October 27, and is scheduled to make an official visit this weekend. The Longhorns certainly like Lane’s combination of height, length and 50-50 ball skills. This is a considered a long shot heading into the weekend.

Markis Deal, DL, Garland (Texas) Naaman Forest

The Texas-TCU matchup could be for Deal’s signature on signing day. At 6-foot-4, 280 pounds, the four-star and On3 No. 5 interior offensive lineman in the Class of 2023 holds double-digit offers including Georgia, Texas A&M, and USC. But this one might come down to Horns or Frogs.

Malik Muhammad and family attending the TCU-Texas game

https://www.on3.com/teams/texas-longhorns/news/malik-muahmmad-and-family-attending-the-tcu-texas-game/

Quote

On3 Consensus 4-star cornerback and Texas commitment Malik Muhammad will be in Austin on Saturday for the TCU-Texas game.

The 6-foot-0, 175-pound cover corner will make the trip with several family members, and teammate and fellow Texas commitment Billy Walton.

This will be the second unofficial visit this season for the DFW area star. Muhammad and family were in Austin on October 15 to watch Texas beat Iowa State. Muhammad was part of the big visit weekend that included Arch Manning and then Oklahoma verbal Colton Vasek.

The Longhorns continue to battle Alabama for the No. 5 cornerback in the 2023 cycle. Muhammad made an official visit to Texas A&M the last weekend in October. The Aggies are not considered a threat at this time.

South Oak Cliff takes on Mansfield Summit tonight at 7pm at Kincade Stadium.

Shannon is Karic's replacement, except he's actually a good athlete and not a complete nothing in the passing game.

Yes. A blocking TE that can block and make a catch here and there is a very valuable player . Geoff Swain's 8 year NFL career can attest to that. Fans will never appreciate those guys, but coaches do

Listen, I agree completely and have made the same argument on these various threads, but if somehow Duce Robinson is compelled to attend Texas, Shannon is very likely going to be helped to understand that a decommitment would be a good answer for all parties. Luckily/unluckily, Robinson is a hail mary level long shot.

Shannon is lower on the board than Randle? Or pissing off Mater Dei is more appealing than pissing off Arch ?

Humidor: Late-cycle intrigue for UT defensive back recruiting

Eric Nahlin•about 2 hours

Article written by:Eric Nahlin

Javien Toviano (Billy Embody/On3)

Texas started the week and finished the week with 21 commitments, but obviously there was more activity than that suggests. Arlington (Texas) Seguin defensive back Jamel Johnson de-committed while Austin (Texas) Westlake edge Colton Vasek scored perfect 10s for his clean flip from Oklahoma.

This past week is instructive going forward. As the cycle begins to accelerate toward the early signing day, Texas coaches will only have room for studs or portal players. We are past the portion of the cycle when they’ll simply take guys they like. That’s not a knock on Jamel, he’s a good football player and will likely end up starting wherever he lands. It’s just that Texas is aiming for legitimate difference-makers at this juncture.

Losing Johnson does create a vacancy in the class. Texas currently has two elite DB’s committed in Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff cornerback Malik Muhammad and New Iberia (La.) Westgate safety Derek Williams. We’ll be monitoring both as we near Signing Day, but at this point Texas remains on solid footing for each. Alabama is staying on Muhammad and LSU is who we’re watching with Williams, especially given he’s from Louisiana and LSU is creating some momentum on the recruiting trail right now. It was a stroke of genius to have Williams use his official visit to Texas during the summer.

Arlington (Texas) Martin Javien Toviano is visiting Texas this weekend. It could be a make or break visit for Toviano and Texas. He’s kept consistent communication with UT but his actions haven’t exactly inspired confidence. Hopefully we can get a better read on whether UT is a real player in this recruitment after the weekend. Odds are probably in LSU’s favor, but that could just be what he wants people to think.

Texas attended La Grange (Texas) cornerback Bravion Rogers‘ playoff game last night. The soft Aggie commit will also be in Austin this weekend for the star-studded event. Would Texas take both Toviano and Rogers if they could get them? We think so but don’t know for sure. Both of them have pretty significant upside. Just landing one would be a big win.

We have Notre Dame commit and Denton (Texas) Guyer five-star Peyton Bowen down as a maybe to visit Texas and after checking on Thursday we think it’s likely he’ll make the visit with his 2024 brother Eli Bowen. Eli recently picked up an offer from Texas and you can expect UT to stay on him. What IT originally believed was an offer to get Peyton’s attention was really the staff liking what they saw in Eli when they recently attended a game. We still believe Peyton Bowen would be very difficult to flip, but getting him on campus, assuming the brothers follow through on the visit, could at least crack the door open.

Mableton (Ga.) Pebblebrook cornerback Tyler Scott remains a priority but unfortunately his scheduled official visit for this weekend is postponed after his playoff game was moved to Saturday. He appears to be a priority for Alabama, and like Texas, Bama views him as a corner. Scott has official visits lined up for Alabama and USC. Texas may shoot for the December 3rd weekend, but hopefully that doesn’t work due to the Big 12 Championship game.

Finally, with all the turmoil in College Station we’ve been asked about Shiner (Texas) safety Dalton Brooks. We don’t believe he’s a tangible target at this time, but we don’t know that for 100%.

The strategy behind late-cycle recruiting and roster management is always fascinating. There’s constant tension between numbers, needs, optionality, and taking ‘best player available’ types (BPAs). This includes portal recruiting as well. The 2023 cycle is a tad different, however, due to the ‘numbers’ issue being somewhat mitigated by the new rules that don’t cap class size. That allows more more BPAs if they can get them and right now they’re at least getting them to visit.

Humidor In Depth Visitor List Discussion:

Recruiting Humidor: In-depth Texas-TCU Visitor List for Saturday

Justin Wells•13 minutes

Article written by:Justin Wells

Anthony Hill Jr. (Justin Wells/Inside Texas)

Inside Texas goes into detail on the recruiting visitor list for Saturday’s big game in Austin when No. 4 TCU comes to town. Notes, quotes, and more on a truly star-studded event.

Official Visitors

Duce Robinson, TE, Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle

Texas is shooting its shot with the nation’s top-rated tight end in 2023. USC and Georgia lead this recruitment, but it shows initiative that Robinson in making this trip. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound On3 Consensus five-star originally planned to attend for Texas-Alabama, but bad weather pushed his game to the weekend and was unable to make it. He’s giving Texas a solid look here.

DeAndre Moore Jr., WR, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco – Louisville commit

The On3 four-star is set to return to the Forty Acres. After a recent official visit to Georgia, it’s apparent the Louisville pledge is looking around. Texas really likes Moore so this is the weekend to make your push. I wonder if Georgia trying to flip Converse (Texas) Judson ATH Anthony Evans helps the Horns.

Ja’Kobi Lane, WR, Mesa (Ariz.) Red Mountain – USC commit

Just turn on the tape of the 6-foot-5, 180-pound On3 four-star and enjoy. He moves effortlessly for his size and fits the outside receiver role in Sarkisian’s offense. He’s pretty locked into his Southern California pledge, but getting him on campus is big in this recruitment.

Markis Deal, DL, Garland (Texas) Naaman Forest

The Texas-TCU matchup could be for Deal’s signature on signing day. That’s not to say Georgia is out of it, to be clear. Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis has been very consistent in his recruitment of Deal the whole way through.

Unofficial Visitors

Tre Wisner, RB, Desoto (Texas) – #AllGasNoBrakes

Johntay Cook, WR, Desoto (Texas) – #AllGasNoBrakes

Spencer Shannon, TE, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei – #AllGasNoBrakes

Andre Cojoe, OL, Mansfield (Texas) Timberview – #AllGasNoBrakes

Connor Stroh, OL, Frisco (Texas) Wakeland – #AllGasNoBrakes

Payton Kirkland, OL, Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips – #AllGasNoBrakes

Derion Gullette, LB/EDGE, Teague (Texas) – #AllGasNoBrakes

Liona Lefau, LB, Kahuku (Hawaii) – #AllGasNoBrakes

Colton Vasek, EDGE, Austin (Texas) Westlake – #AllGasNoBrakes

Billy Walton, EDGE, Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff – #AllGasNoBrakes

S’Maje Burrell, LB, North Crowley (Texas) – #AllGasNoBrakes

Malik Muhammad, CB, Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff – #AllGasNoBrakes

Jaden Greathouse, WR, Austin (Texas) Westlake – Notre Dame commit

When Greathouse didn’t make his trip to South Bend last weekend, it gave the Irish fans a slight pause. He’d already scheduled another visit to Austin for Texas-TCU beforehand, and after watching teammate Colton Vasek flip to the good guys this week, it only added to the smoke around his recruitment. IT believes the On3 four-star is solid to Notre Dame, but Texas and Brennan Marion continue to gain on the ultra-productive Cen-Tex native.

Peyton Bowen, S, Denton (Texas) Guyer – Notre Dame commit **Maybe

Texas and Bowen will be a long shot until proven otherwise. But one thing is known, Steve Sarkisian and staff recruit the blue chips through the whistle.

Bravion Rogers, CB, LaGrange (Texas) – Texas A&M commit

Texas covets Rogers’ speed and playmaking combination. Texas defensive backs coach Terry Joseph was in LaGrange on Thursday.

Anthony Hill, LB, Denton (Texas) Ryan

The biggest news of the week was Hill Jr reopening his recruitment after a summer commitment to Texas A&M. Texas, the runner-up, has some real help in this pursuit, including numerous Texas players and a close relationship with Chris Gilbert.

“I just want to make sure I’m making the right decision,” Hill told Inside Texas. “I want to see some good football (this weekend), build some bonds back up with players and staff. Plus, I have some teammates I want to see again. Ja’Tavion (Sanders), Austin (Jordan), those are my guys. They keeping telling me to ‘come home.’ There’s a whole bunch of them down there I know. I have a personal connection with guys like Ryan Watts, who I’ve known since sixth grade. Savion Red, Xavion Brice, I know a lot of Longhorns. Just ready to see my guys.”

Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Ohio State reengaged with the On3 Consensus’ top linebacker in the 2023 cycle.

Jai Eugene Jr., S, Destrehan (La.) High – Tulane commit

The Tulane verbal is a continued evaluation by the Texas staff. Ole Miss and Michigan are also making senior year evals.

Javien Toviano, DB, Arlington (Texas) Martin

If Toviano arrives to Austin on Saturday, that’s a big step in the right direction. The uber-talented On3 four-star is a big fan of LSU right now, so the Horns have a hill to climb. They’ll lean on Morice Blackwell, Trevell Johnson, and members of UT’s Class of 2023 to narrow that gap.

Jelani McDonald, ATH, Waco (Texas) Connally

McDonald’s Connally Cadets opened the playoffs with a win on Thursday night, but the On3 four-star athlete was hurt early in the game and did not return. McDonald told Inside Texas he believes it was more precautionary and hopes to be back on the field for the second round. McDonald continues to get closer to Texas and has put themselves in a strong position down the stretch to NSD. He has a Texas official visit set for December 17th.

2024 prospects

Aeryn Hampton, ATH, Daingerfield (Texas) – #AllGasNoBrakes

Inside Texas was on-hand for Hampton’s first playoff game on Thursday night. Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle injury early in the contest, but that didn’t stop him from getting re-taped and playing a few more series, including an interception where he had to fall down instead of attempting the pick-six. He sat the entire second half.

Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Florida State continue to push for the On3 four-star’s services. He was scheduled to see LSU last weekend, but didn’t make the trip. Hampton has built a few relationships with fellow UT pledges and continues recruiting for the Horns behind the scenes.

Jaden Allen, CB, Aledo (Texas) – #AllGasNoBrakes

Austin Mack, QB, Folsom (Calif.)

The big 6-foot-5, 185-pound passing prospect holds offers from Oregon, Washington, Cal, and Washington State among others. With Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair’s Trey Owens recently getting offered, this appears to be Sarkisian’s due diligence for UT’s QB take in 2024.

Michael Uini, OL, Copperas Cove (Texas)

The state’s top offensive line prospect for 2024 is eager to return to Austin. He’s already visited once this season, he continues to build a strong relationship with the Texas staff, and his head coach and Kyle Flood have been friends for years.

Daniel Cruz, IOL, North Richland Hills (Texas) Richland

Make no mistake, this is the top 2024 offensive lineman on the board for Kyle Flood. He’s not only a terrific player on tape, but has some big time leadership abilities and competitive fire. Shares some similarities to Kasey Studdard in that regard.

Colin Simmons, EDGE, Duncanville (Texas)

If y’all thought the On3 Consensus’ No. 1 edge-backer was going to miss this big game, think again. The 6-foot-2.5, 225-pound On3 No. 10 overall prospect will be in town for the Texas-TCU festivities. LSU, Alabama, and Oklahoma remain hot on the trail for Simmons, but he’s always keeping an eye on Austin.

Daykus Brinkley, EDGE, Katy (Texas) Seven Lakes

This will be the second time on campus since June for the son of former South Carolina and NFL LB Jasper Brinkley.

Dylan Williams, LB, Long Beach (Calif.) Long Beach Poly

Sark and the staff continue to cherry-pick talent from the west coast. Texas recently offered the 6-foot-2.5, 205-pound On3 four-star and getting him to Austin this quickly is impressive. UT will battle USC, UCLA, Michigan State, and Florida State.

Kobe Black, CB, Waco (Texas) Connally

The top corner in Texas for 2024 is making a return trip to the ATX. After pasting Giddings on Thursday night, the two-way threat was fantastic including a big pitch-and-catch touchdown at a key point during the game. Black likes a handful of programs including LSU, so UT getting him back is a solid data point.

Braylon Conley, CB, Humble (Texas) Atascocita

This is Conley’s second unofficial visit of the season. One of two 2024’s at Atascocita that Texas has offered, along with IOL Nate Kibble. Kibble has also been on campus this season.

2024 Eli Bowen, CB, Denton (Texas) Guyer **maybe

Like his big brother he’s listed as a maybe for Saturday, but after getting the Texas offer last week, Eli might be looking in Austin more than five-star sibling Peyton.

Corian Gipson, S, Lancaster (Texas)

One of the top junior safeties in the country is coming back this weekend. A standout in the defensive secondary and on the track, UT has an inside track on Gipson with his relationship with former Lancaster head coach, current Texas staffer Chris Gilbert. Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Texas A&M are also in the mix early.

Terry Bussey, ATH, Timpson (Texas)

Texas is finally starting to connect with the electric east Texas athlete. Bussey leads one of the state’s top teams at quarterback and defensive back, with an ever-growing profile. Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor, and Kansas State are in the race early, so it’s time for Texas to catch up.

Freddie Dubose, WR, Smithson Valley (Texas)

The On3 four-star standout suffered a season-ending injury early in the 2022 season, but that hasn’t deterred his enthusiasm for the recruiting process. Dubose likes Texas, but also likes other schools, like Texas A&M, LSU, and TCU.

David Kabongo, S, Trophy Club (Texas) Byron Nelson

Kabongo has been a favorite of Blake Gideon since his June camp performance.

2025 prospects

Roy Thomas Jenkins, QB, Beaumont (Texas) West Brook

Gracen Harris, WR, Ennis (Texas)

 Kelton Craver, IOL, Abernathy (Texas)

 Copelin Windfont, LB, Crosby (Texas)

The second trip to Austin for the up-and-coming defender from Crosby. Remember the name.

2026 prospects

Jalen Lott, ATH, Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy – son of former Texas DB James Lott

Gerry Hamilton contributed to this article.

Fong blurb on Anthony Hill visit

Quote

Denton (Texas) Ryan five-star linebacker Anthony Hill will return to Texas on Saturday for his first college visit since reopening the recruiting process in decommitting from Texas A&M earlier this week.

“We love Coach Sark,” Hill’s father Anthony said. “Love the supporting cast. Built a great relationship with a lot of them. Coach Gilbert, a lot of those guys. And the direction of the program. You see it coming.”

The elder Hill said his son won’t make a final college decision until Dec. 21, the first day of the Early Signing Period.

“It was just a family decision,” Anthony Sr. said. “We wanted to make sure he’s making the right choice for the next four years.”

Alabama and the Aggies remain in the picture for Hill.

“Possibly go back and visit A&M,” Anthony Sr. said. “As of right now we got about six weeks. We may get back out to Alabama. Possibly go to Ohio State.”

Hill is the Top247’s No. 1 linebacker in the country and he’ll play in the All-American Bowl his senior year. He will enroll early at the school of his choice.

Texas has been trending on the 247Sports Crystal Ball.
