Maybe think of it more like an arranged marriage where the parties in question have a *real* chance to fall in love and appear in a Hallmark movie based on their story? Perhaps the real commitment is the suitors we meet along the way.

The Mrs. watches the Hallmark channel. From that I know this chick has got to have great cans

— 2023 Arlington Lamar offensive tackle Isaiah Robinson got his first offer from Texas and Herb Hand. The rising star was high on Texas and the Longhorns figured to be a big factor in the recruitment. Robinson hasn't heard from the new Texas staff since they took over, but he would like to speak with Kyle Flood. At this point in time, he doesn't seem to hold an offer from the new staff, but there's still a lot of time left before the 2023 class signs.

Aggy offered him yesterday.

Damn man.... I'm sorry

Ha. "Ago" makes it a far less haunting memory. Actually wasn't a bad town, just not much entertainment for a guy in his early 20s. Although it was cool to be able to put a lawn chair on your rooftop on a foggy winter morning and blast snow geese...inside the city limits.

Mike at Night (2023s)

Spoiler

— I was able to see more underclassmen prospects today and got a close up look at one of my favorites in 2023. North Mesquite's Cordale Russell is one of the best looking prospects in what is shaping up to be a loaded wide receiver group in the 2023 class, but he might have the best tools of the group. At 6-foot-3 with an incredible wingspan, Russell shows the dominant physical ability to go up and get the ball with his athleticism and strong leaping skills. Russell already holds offers from Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi State, Pitt, Tennessee, SMU and Utah State. Texas is aware of him and evaluating his tape, and Brandon Harris has been in contact with his coaches.

— Another 2023 prospect to keep an eye on is Corsicana cornerback Jayvon Thomas. Baylor and Oklahoma were the first two schools to extend offers to the twitchy 2023 athlete, and Oklahoma State joined late tonight. I wrote about Thomas two weeks ago following Baylor's offer as a guy who could really skyrocket, and it looks like that is starting. Texas is aware and is evaluating him as they continue to send out underclassmen offers. Keep an eye on Thomas as a guy who could really skyrocket.

Spoiler

— I'm going to give you some shocking news. DeSoto is once again loaded for years to come. On my visit to the south Dallas powerhouse program today I met prospect after prospect from the 2023, 2024 and even 2025 class. It's safe to say that DeSoto will remain an important stop along the talent-rich I-20 corridor in Dallas.

— For Texas, the priority at DeSoto is 2023 wide receiver Johntay Cook. Cook was offered by the old staff and re-offered once the new staff arrived at Texas. Cook had a tremendous sophomore season as one of the most electric slot receivers in the state, and he's added noticeable height since the season now standing over 6-feet. A heavyweight fight is developing for Cook on the recruiting trail. Texas and the Sarkisian offense is something that's big for him. Oklahoma, who just offered, was Cook's favorite school growing up. Alabama is another school in the picture thanks to Jay Valai and Ohio State is close to entering the race. Cook is in no sort of hurry to make a decision and this one will likely draw out over the next two years.

With Claude Mathis back at DeSoto it just seems like those recruiting cycles and that effort would be better spent elsewhere. Hell, I'd rather Banks work his way back into Duncanville vs. the Sooners before getting back into the Mathis bullshit. I've been the circus and I've seen the strings.

— I mentioned Thursday that Texas was engaged for 2023 DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook along with heavyweights like Oklahoma and Alabama with Ohio State expected to join the fray soon. Shortly after I left DeSoto, Cook had a Zoom call with the Texas staff. The call was run mostly by Steve Sarkisian and Andre Coleman and Sarkisian spent a lot of time presenting for Texas. While that may seem like a given, it's a big change for Texas. I was told by a number of high school coaches that Tom Herman would start Zoom calls with prospects and say a few words and then jump off the call. Cook said they talked about how he could fit in the offense, and how they are changing things to get the ball to speedy playmakers in space and letting them operate. For Cook, that was big news to hear considering he's one of the more electric playmakers in the 2023 class.

Wells

Spoiler

OT Andre Cojoe, Mansfield Timberview (2023):

At 6-foot-5, 310 pounds, Cojoe is quickly rising up prospect boards. One of the more quiet players in the 2023 cycle, he prefers the low profile.

Cojoe is a prime offensive tackle prospect, a premium for any major college program.

“My favorite part of the recruiting process so far is talking to coaches and knowing that colleges are seeing something good in me," said Cojoe.

It's giving him more and more confidence. He had a school he loved growing up.

“I grew up loving LSU,” said Cojoe. “Just watching the games with my dad.”

Texas was his first offer, followed by UH, and that's allowed the Horns the upper hand early.

“I love the moves that (Texas) has made so far," said Cojoe. "All Gas No Brakes! I’m really looking for a family in the program."

Coach Kyle Flood is quietly positioning the Horns in many of the top offensive linemen's recruitments throughout the 2022 and 2023 classes. Unlike his predecessor, he's saying the right things and pushing the correct buttons.

Andre Cojoe is a prime example.

WR Jaquaize Pettaway, Langham Creek (Houston, TX) (2023)

Despite not being ranked, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver is still grabbing offers.

OU, Penn State, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, and Baylor are among his 10 verbal invitations. After notching 1,004 yards on 55 catches and seven scores during his sophomore campaign, he garnered District 16-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year honors in 2020.

The recruiting process is still quite new to Pettaway, and he's soaking it all in.

“Growing up, I saw myself playing for teams like UT, OU, LSU, Alabama, USC, and many more,” said Pettaway. “I really didn’t see myself at one, but now that I got schools looking at me, my mind has been everywhere, but I still got two more years to think about it.”

Pettaway mentioned that he’s looking for a school that “has a good architect program.” When Texas called, that was big for the future four-star pass-catcher.

“I feel like Texas has a good staff," said Pettaway. "I heard about the new coach coming from Alabama and would like to talk to them more.”

The 2022 recruiting buzz for UT is slightly extending to the 2023 cycle, especially after the state's top running back, Rueben Owens, committed last week. For now, Pettaway is just enjoying the process.

“My favorite part is meeting new people and coaches and getting to know everyone,” said Pettaway.

The country will be getting to know Pettaway soon enough.

Mike Roach:  Thoughts on Texas targets from weekend DFW training session (2023 recruits)

Spoiler

Thoughts on Texas targets from weekend DFW training session

MikeRoach

— Horns247 was on the scene for a DB/WR camp in Plano today put on by Margin Hooks and Flight Skillz. The two well-known DFW trainers put on a skill sharpening camp one week before the Under Armour camp comes to Dallas. Several Texas commits and offers were on the field and several targets are emerging as names to know.

— I continue to bang the drum for 2023 North Mesquite wide receiver Cordale Russell who always impresses in one on one settings. He has phenomenal size and dominant physical ability to pair with his long limbs and competitive attitude. Russell showed off some skill as a route runner today and also made some big plays during red zone work.

— Richland's Ashton Cozart was one of the best guys I saw today. Another name to know in the growing 2023 wide receiver discussion, Cozart combines size and smooth athleticism with speed. Cozart moved to Richland from Seattle over a year ago and has been a guy generating some buzz in the metroplex. Today, Cozart slayed every defensive back he went up against and proved to be one of the best in attendance.

— Another ridiculous talent in the 2023 wide receiver class is Del Valle wide receiver Braylon James. A giant physical presence at 6-foot-3, James shows some sick ability to go up and get the ball with dominant physical ability. He's another that will hold over 30 offers by the time it's said and done, and Texas has been opening the lines of communication there.

(CJ Vogel) Sunday Notebook | Flight/Hooks Training Session

Spoiler

I was up in Plano this afternoon for a workout session between Coach Flight’s DB’s and WR coach Margin Hooks’ wide receivers. The joint workout allowed for a very impressive one-on-one session from which I have some notes to share.

*** First off the bat, the 2023 WR class is going to be absolutely loaded. I’m starting to think of dudes that will crack the top five of the class and there’s probably close to 10 names that come to mind right off the top.

Good luck ranking the following: Braylon James, Johntay Cook, Jalen Hale, Jaden Greathouse, Mikal Harrison-Pilot, Cordale Russell, Jaquaize Pettaway, Randy Reece and Montrel Hatten.

*** I’m sure Darius will have more as this recruitment ages, but DeSoto’s Johntay Cook was stellar. Cook recently had a virtual visit with Texas and told me he was able to connect with Steve Sarkisian and Andre Coleman. He said Sarkisian was able to pitch to him where he’d be used in the Texas offense and was a fan of what he had heard.

*** I’ve mentioned a few of Temple’s 2023 prospects a few times but one stands out to me in terms of flying under the radar – Naeten Mitchell. He was clamps in one-on-one drills this afternoon. He mentioned a couple schools have taken notice but no one has offered so far.

*** North Mesquite’s 2023 WR Cordale Russell is going to be a dude to know. He mentioned that he had been in contact with USC and Texas recently and already had eight offers under his belt.

*** Justin Northwest QB Jake Strong looked real good once again. The 2023 QB class has yet to really establish itself, but he’s going to be a guy regardless of who else emerges.

*** I mentioned talented WR’s in the 2023 class earlier, but perhaps my favorite of the bunch is Del Valle’s Braylon James. Any jump ball in the area is his. Great hands, tremendous jump radius and football knowledge.

*** One last 2023 WR is Richland’s Ashton Cozart. Hard to find many receivers that are able to create such space off the release. Store this name away.

Q:  Hookem777 said... (original post)How does instate WR in '23 compare to the WR in '22. Sounds like may be just as good.

MR:  Better/way deeper

MR:  I'm going to do a deeper dive into it this week but it's insane

Q: krshorns13 said... (original post)Anything on db targets?

MR: There weren't really any Texas targets out there today.

Q: backtothetoput said... (original post)No dbs that stood out at times in stopping any of the WRs?

MR:  It was a stronger WR group than DBs today.

MR: I talked to a marketing specialist with knowledge of the Name Image and Likeness policies today who said that Evan Stewart has more earning potential on that front than several NFL players because of his massive social media following.

Q:  TyroneSwoops said... (original post)This is good for Texas hahaWho would you compare him to? (Stewart)

MR:  I've always thought of him as a faster version of Garrett Wilson. May not be the best comparison but it's what I've got so far.

Q:  Hornsfan7612 said... (original post)How is Stewart's vertical ball winning ability? That's something that always stood out to me about Garrett. Evan is obviously much better after the catch.

MR:  He was out of bounds but you get the idea. (Video - already posted.)

Q:  TyroneSwoops said... (original post)

He is jumping over DBs and dominating.

He makes crazy catches so I think he is like Garrett Wilson... maybe better

MR:  Garrett had some incredible body control and some dawg in him i'm just starting to see in Evan.

https://247sports.com/Article/Arch-Manning-college-football-recruiting-Alabama-Clemson-LSU-Texas-Peyton-Eli-Cooper-162046070/

(Steve Wiltfong) More than a famous name: Arch Manning beginning to carve his own legacy

Spoiler

NEW ORLEANS - It probably surprises no one that Arch Manning’s first snap as an Isidore Newman High football player in a spring scrimmage saw him check into something different.

The son of Cooper Manning, nephew of Peyton and Eli, grandson of — well, look at who he’s named after — scanned the defense pre-snap and saw press coverage.

“He was actually an eighth grader at the time,” Isidore Newman head coach Nelson Stewart said. “I was standing behind him and he looked back at me and I saw him and said ‘oh my’ and he checked and just ripped it. A touchdown. It really was a magical moment. That was the first time I thought we might have something special. His first throw.”

A month later, Manning led Isidore Newman to a 7on7 tournament championship at LSU. By the fall, Manning became Isidore Newman’s first freshman starter at the quarterback position. After that season he debuted as the No. 1 quarterback in the Top247 2023 Player Rankings (No. 5 overall). Fast forward to now and he’s 18-3 as the starter and holds offers from the likes of Alabama, LSU and Texas, and has been extended the opportunity to play in the 2023 All-American Bowl.

Stewart has been there literally every step of the way. A former offensive lineman at Tulane, Stewart is a 1999 graduate of Isidore Newman and has spent the last 22 years coaching at his former high school, the past 16 as the head coach. The elementary school is right next door to the high school on this historic campus in Uptown New Orleans that has stood on Jefferson Ave. since 1903. Arch is the first son of a former teammate he’s had the pleasure of coaching.

“I remember when he was in pre-K,” Stewart said. “Never in a million years did I think we’d be here and he’d be the first freshman to start and do all the things he’s done. I think watching him grow up, he just really loves sports, he’s really funny, really unassuming. He had his glasses on and just loved to throw the football. Kind of a beloved guy that went with the flow and he could just make every throw even when he was a little kid. He’s a great athlete just like he is now.”

Over his first two high schools seasons Manning has passed for 4,081 yards and 53 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions, completing nearly 68 percent of his attempts. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound signal-caller has also found the end zone 12 more times running it. The stadium Manning plays in on Friday nights doesn’t look much different than the one his father ran free on during his prep days as a wide receiver, minus the fact that the gates outside leading into the small parking lot now don the name Manning Family Sports Complex. Bleachers stand on just one side, and it seems like a quarter of those in attendance this season brought a video camera looking to get footage of Manning for various reasons.

We live in a world where we even have TMZ taking interest in Manning, recently reporting that Josh Heupel and the new Tennessee staff have reaffirmed its scholarship offer. With that, Manning’s family has done a good job of shielding him from that to date. He has no Twitter, just utilizing a private Instagram account to connect with his peers.

“He just kind of blends in with his friends, they never seek out the spotlight which has been really neat for him,” Stewart said. The whole thing has been neat for the head coach.

“Watching him when he first came in in sixth grade, the first time he played tackle football, and watching how much he’s grown, he’s just gotten so much better each and every year and that’s probably the best part. You get to meet some of these kids when they’re four and five years old and now here he is.”

Third generation of American football family royalty, Arch threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns in his first varsity start. The public quickly got a taste of what Stewart and his staff had been seeing since that initial spring scrimmage. Manning finished his freshman season throwing for 2,438 yards and 34 touchdowns. As a sophomore, playing in more of a under-center, various tempo offense, Manning saw his completion percentage rise from 65 to 72 and his yards per attempt go up to 10.7 from 8.23 en route to throwing for 1,643 yards and 19 scores on 133 fewer attempts.

“He’s still got a whole 'nother level,” Stewart said. “There is a complete different level. I think for me, I think we’re going to be able to expand so much offensively. Last year, he understood I thought little things like running a four-minute offense and playing in tight games and not taking sacks and not forcing things. He was really good in terms of football IQ. Now I can see his processing speed is so fast. I think we can play with a lot more tempo, a lot more motion, we’re fortunate to have three guys at the skill position that I think can (be dangerous including LSU receiver commit AJ Johnson) and move those guys around and he understands progression-based reads and RPOs as well and screens so really he’s one of those kids all he does is talk ball. He came in after practice and we talked 45 minutes on cadence and tempo and yesterday he came in to go over a new drop back mesh concept Texas had run so I’m just so excited.”

So is Manning.

“I’m just really proud of what we’ve been able to do on offense, spread the ball around and I think I’ve been well coached with Coach Stewart and the rest of my family,” Manning told 247Sports on Friday. “The only way is up from here.”

Naturally, Arch taps into his family whenever he can for insight. Stewart calls it a “never-ending quest for learning” where the apple obviously didn’t fall far from the tree.

“Obviously I watch my uncles and my grandfather,” Manning said.

“They’re the ultimate competitors. I mean the way they go about their business, Peyton the way he attacks the film room and outside of football and then Eli the way he can be clutch and never really get fazed, I look up to that a lot and take after that. My grandfather especially, he’s a little different with the way he played quarterback from his two sons, he can scramble around the pocket and how he kind of respects the game. He’s been around awhile and keeps up with everyone and he’s just a great guy and great guy to have in the football community.”

Manning certainly draws from his father too.

“He’s a laid-back guy, keep it fun and not take it too seriously,” Manning said.

Manning’s mom Ellen has pedigree too, a standout volleyball player in her day. Other influences include Patrick Mahomes and Trevor Lawrence.

“Just how they impact their own offenses so much,” Manning said. “Mahomes can make every throw on the field with his dramatics and moves around and Trevor he just reminds me a lot of Peyton. He has total command of the offense. Those two things I like to put in my game for sure.

“That’s one thing I’m still working on. I think going into junior year even being more of a leader, I’m just really excited. I want to take full command of the huddle and be a leader on and off the field and the ultimate goal is to win and get the ball in the end zone. That’s what we’re looking for more of.”

Manning has started to dive into his college recruitment as well. He really likes Steve Sarkisian at Texas. Their relationship began when Sarkisian was in Tuscaloosa. New Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien has picked up where Sarkisian left off and Manning has talked with Nick Saban as well. Of course Ed Orgeron and new offensive coordinator Jake Peetz have been involved. Manning looks forward to seeing what the Tigers offense looks like this year under Peetz. Clemson is in the picture. Ole Miss and Tennessee have called. So have Boston College, Stanford and several others.

Manning said family ties to Oxford and Knoxville will not factor into his decision as he starts to think about the path he’ll take on his own journey.

“I think this summer will be a good chance to go visit some colleges,” he said. “I’m real excited about that because right now I’m just talking over the phone and just building some relationships. I think it would be good to go visit some campuses. We haven’t made any decisions but I’d like to go check out a lot of colleges. I have no idea where I could end up.

“I’m looking for a place that’s like a family with good surroundings, great coaches and good players and really puts you in the opportunity to win. I think anywhere right now, I’m not singling out anywhere.”

(Steve Wiltfong) No. 1 2023 QB Arch Manning talks about his recruitment

Spoiler

NEW ORLEANS, La. - After taking it slow in focusing on his own development on the field, the Top247’s No. 1 2023 quarterback Arch Manning has started to dive into his recruitment.

“I’ve been talking with a bunch of coaches,” the Isidore Newman signal-caller said. “Coach (Steve) Sark(isian) at Texas, Coach (Jake) Peetz and Coach (Ed) O(rgeron) at LSU and I’ve gotten the opportunity to talk with Coach (Nick) Saban too. Really all those guys are good at what they do and they’re great to talk to and it’s just been great to get the relationships and bonds already.”

Clemson is another program the 6-foot-3 1/2, 200-pound Manning talks to and his head coach Nelson Stewart says he believes Manning will camp there.

“The teams you hear about have reached out,” Stewart said. “Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Tennessee and Florida State have all reached out. There’s obviously many others. Those are the ones he’s kind of talked to consistently but I think the good thing with him is right now he’s really just forming relationships. It’s not about the emblem on the front. I’d say those are the main ones right now that have reached out but each and every day there is more coming through.”

Manning is the country’s No. 5 prospect regardless of position. Through his first two prep seasons he’s passed for 4,081 yards and 53 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions, completing nearly 68 percent of his attempts. He’s looking forward to taking some visits after basketball season.

“I just really love building a relationship,” Manning said. “Really getting to know all of the coaches is important to me.”

Manning likes what he’s seen from Sarkisian.

“Obviously he was really successful at Alabama,” Manning said. “I think he’s going to get Texas going for sure and I’m just really excited to see what they can do. He knows how to run an offense and put receivers in the end zone and he’s definitely a great developer of quarterbacks and that’s awesome.”

Sarkisian started building a relationship with Manning at Alabama and that has clearly carried over to Austin. Meanwhile in Tuscaloosa new Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien has picked up where Sarkisian left off and Saban has made an impression as well.

“Coach Saban, he’s the best college coach of all time,” Manning said. “He’s just build such a great program at Alabama. I have the ultimate respect for him and his winning mentality and the way he goes about his business.”

Manning has competed in a 7on7 at LSU and the Tigers are certainly pushing to keep him home.

“They’re coming off two years ago they won the National Championship,” Manning said. “I think they’re definitely going to get it going again this year and I’m excited to see what Coach Peetz and that new offense staff can do. They’re just great guys.”

Manning said one of the quarterbacks he watches the most is Trevor Lawrence and loves the command the Clemson signal-caller had of his offense. With that the Tigers are in this one.

“I’ve talked to Coach (Brandon) Streeter their quarterbacks coach and he’s a really good guy,” Manning said.

Manning added he’s had a “little bit” of contact with Ole Miss and Tennessee. He’s excited to see where things go with them like so many other programs but the family ties don’t matter much for his future. “I don’t think that will impact my decision. I think I’m going to do the best thing for me.”

“I think his family has done such a good job of letting him be a kid,” Stewart added. “I mean it’s a big thing and recruiting and being respectful and listening to coaches but allowing him to really grow has really helped. I think a lot of times nationally you see kids get so much early and they embrace that so much, it can really hinder their development. He’s the same kid to me I was coaching in the sixth grade. I think that’s been a real nice, authentic piece. When you hear him talk about what he wants in a university those are the real good values instilled in him by his family.”

Stewart added he’d like for Isidore Newman to play in 7on7s this summer at Alabama and LSU which would obviously bring Manning back to those campuses.

I think we are in the running because of how great of a QB developer Sark is.  Out of all the options, Sark gives him one of the better chances to develop into a first round pick.  I don't think BOB does that.  Maybe Clemson does.  Coach O sure doesn't.

Texas was in it before Sark. He'll be a great closer, here.

It's been mentioned but Eli could have easily ended up here. The Manning family has always had a solid relationship with UT and things with Arch specifically are aligning pretty nicely. I think you have to take the field over Texas but give me UT's odds as equal or better than any other school right now.

I'm most surprised to see his contact with Ole Miss described as "a little bit". I thought they were one of the biggest threats along with Bama, and Clemson.

More on Arch Manning from TFB ... this does not suck!

Spoiler

*** I was able to connect with a source over the weekend that is pretty well connected to Arch Manning and his family.

*** The source told me that the Mannings are very fond of the work Steve Sarkisian has done over the years and are ultimately big fans of how he works with and develops quarterbacks.

*** It’s still early for Manning’s recruitment, but the source said if he had to guess who is making headway early on it would be the trio of Alabama, Clemson and Texas. Said he would expect one of those three schools to end of earning the signature from Manning when it is all said and done.

*** Manning is currently rated as the No. 1 QB in the 2023 class.

Just figure out where Manning's sister is going to school. If she heads to Virginia, it's a non-factor. If she comes to Texas, it could be a big deal. Some will dispute family impact on choices like this, but if the family believes that any of the staffs under consideration can get Arch to the next level, family ties could benefit us. They're a tight unit.

Eli Manning comes to Texas if Chris Simms doesn't commit. If he's never openly stated it to the press, it's something that's been said offline over the years by the family. They're going to be looking for the maximum opportunity comprised between development and public platform. I think Ewers being on the depth chart would matter here, but likely no other QB.
