Not sure if his hudl has been posted, but Wiltfong said in an interview talking about Texas thay Dylan Spencer had an excellent Sr year.

Best pass rushing DE this year in probably the best district in Texas. I think he was the sack leader as well. Yea I’d say that’s excellent. Great eval by staff.

His ranking history is strange, was pretty highly rated early then steadily dropped.  In 90 range for composite.

That’s just the result of camp attendance. Happens every year, kids that talk to the press and attend the camps get rewarded with rankings. Kids that keep their nose down and work slip.

Inside Texas takes a closer look at the fit and evaluation of Waco (Texas) Connally athlete Jelani McDonald in this edition of the Recruiting Notebook.

How he fits at Texas:

McDonald is a curious prospect for college football. At 6-foot-3 with a 6-foot-6 wingspan he’s long and wiry with a ton of natural athleticism. His high school uses him as a nickel where he can cover ground and use his length to clog passing windows or to rush the passer when he’s sent over the edge. That sort of position doesn’t exactly exist in Texas’ defense. They’ve used DeMarvion Overshown some in that fashion as a Will but the skill set would probably translate best if he could grow into an Edge or if he can handle going backwards well enough to play as a boundary safety. – Ian Boyd

Coach Says:

Strengths — Great height and frame to add bulk as a defensive end. Good top end speed and exceptional lower body strength. In run defense shows good anticipation and delivers a good pop on the ball carrier transferring power from his lower body through his pads. Limited pass rush highlights show persistent effort and active hands. Special teams contributor. Looks like he has soft hands. Ultra competitive.

Areas for Improvement — Position is unclear, but I see him as a safety or hybrid linebacker type. Special teams highlights show a great return after a horrible decision to field the kick. Would like to see agility testing.

How this affects Texas:

McDonald is the quintessential senior breakout prospect. At 6-foot-2.5 and 205 pounds, On3’s No. 3 athlete in the class of 2023 plays quarterback for Connally, lead the basketball team to a 31-4 year in 2021-2022, and won the 4A triple jump title at the state track meet in Austin last May. McDonald holds offers from Texas, Ole Miss, Arkansas, SMU, and Texas Tech. The On3 four-star is the No. 103 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle and No. 22 overall prospect in Texas, according to On3’s rankings. McDonald and Waco Connally (8-2) take on Giddings High (3-7) Thursday, November 10th in the first round of the 4A playoffs. – Justin Wells

Intel:

McDonald is coming back to Austin this weekend for the Texas-TCU matchup. It’s the second time the former Oklahoma State commit will visit UT. McDonald is take in this cycle, but might get caught in numbers crunch situation for the Longhorns. They need another outside linebacker and McDonald fits the profile. But with 21 commitments in the 2023 class, UT will have to be creative with numbers. – Justin Wells

I’d say recruiting has picked up. We’d be making animal sacrifices to land an athlete like McDonal under Herman, and now there might not be room.

While we’re figuring out where to play McDonald on defense, he can get some run at wildcat QB, he does everything for Connally.

There is no fight. He's a LB.

MLB (Ford) - Hill, Burell

SLB (Overshown) - Gullette

WLB (Tucker-Dorsey) - McDonald, Lefau

Doesn't look like his Hudl has been updated with senior highlights. Not sure if C.E King is in playoffs.

Sark has taken full advantage of the portal during his time here. Also I added Worthy and the 6 transfers from 2021 as they were his. So the numbers look a little skewed due to his short time here

The portal and transfers aren't the issue.  It's the fact that Sark hasn't had the limitations on initial counters.  You're praising a guy for having better numbers when he hasn't had any restrictions to worry about while his predecessors did.

You know he has only had one full recruiting cycle that he knocked out of the park right?

Well aware.  He's killing it on the trail for sure.

The tweet was about how Sark is doing better at stacking numbers at positions than the previous 2 coaches.  The reason Sark is doing better at stacking numbers at positions than the previous 2 coaches is that he doesn't have to worry about numbers.  It's like praising someone in a 911 for winning a race vs someone in a Camry.

I think the numbers in the tweets were supposed to be more about linemen than anything but what do I know. Much rather have the 12 linemen than 3 5* safeties, that's for sure.

And the reason he's been able to sign so many linemen is because he doesn't have to worry about the numbers.  If he did have to worry about the numbers, one of the other positions would be at a deficit, but they are not: all are +, because there isn't an overall limit.

I feel like this shouldn't be such a hard concept for y'all to grasp.

What's so hard to grasp? You said Sarkisian is able to stack positions easier because he doesn't have to worry about numbers when the fact is he is on pace to sign around the same number of players per cycle as the previous guy who you claim had all these "number restrictions".

There were easy ways to get around the 25 man limit prior to it being lifted. It isn't some huge relief to programs because they weren't following it anyway.

The comparison isn't limited to the 2 previous seasons, it was to the previous 7.  Going off of the tweet, Sark has 29.5 signees per class vs 21.5.  It's easy to load up at ...checks notes....every single position...when you can sign 8 more players per class.

There are ways to shuffle players from one year to another, but there isn't a way to add 8 players to a class for 7 years.
