Stan Drayton :: Worthless the 20__ Edition

Rewatching the LSU game and mostly really happy with the trajectory of this team and the direction of the program, but watching Ingram digress into a fucking shell of his former self has been incredibly predictable and season damaging. Drayton takes instinctive decisive runners and turns them into a thinking mass of confusion that robs of them of the confidence to just take the ball and fucking go. Watching several different RBs at Texas get worse in each successive season under his tutelage should be more than enough. The fact that instead of being an ace recruiter - he's an anchor, should be more than enough. The fact that he's bungled the goddamn RB room and RB recruiting so bad that we have a fucking true freshman QB and a true freshman LB playing RB should be more than enough. The fact that said true freshman QB-turned-RB has come in and looks markedly better in every single facet of the game at RB than the incumbent starter , who was a top 6 RB in the country as a recruit and has gotten worse, should be more than enough. FFS, Stan Drayton is the reason why we are in this Spinal Tap-drummer-style RB dilemma and he's ruining (ruined?) the only scholarship RB we've got.

Fuck. That. Guy.

I know that Herman wanted continuity on his staff and I completely understand why but this stupid motherfucker should've seen his shit waiting for him at the end of the tunnel with the locks changed on his office door a season ago. Now? He should be escorted from the building via a couple of pipe-hittin' motherfuckers.

I don't want that stupid assflute coaching the "it" out of Roschon Johnson and if anyone is capable of stealing that bad motherfucker's mojo it's Stan Drayton, he's like a dementor but instead of stealing happiness he steals RB instincts and confidence.

Herman certainly needs to fire Drayton's worthless ass before  Bijan gets here, or Derrian Brown gets back on the field.  And yes, I know that ctj feels like Drayton finally did his fucking job and was a big part of getting Bijan but let's be 100% clear without Tim Beck we never get in the race for him at all.

Recruiting related because Drayton has offered 4 RBs in 2021, none of which should have the onus of having to be coached by this fuckface...  and I don't do the football board.

Good grief.  According Bijan, Drayton is a huge reason he is coming here.  If he is fired prior to next season it wouldn't surprise me if he reconsidered his commitment.

Regarding Saturday's game, it looked to me like Ingram was running like someone who knows there isn't much depth behind him, so he has to be careful.  RoJo looked like someone trying to prove he's a dog and wanting to earn extra PT.  Not sure either of those fall at the feet of Drayton, nor does the injury bug going around the RB room.

That and the early TD drop got in his head bigtime.

When the lights are on - step up.  Simple as that.  We have to be able to execute on the biggest of stages.

Hopefully he uses it as motivation to get some intestinal fortitude.  That definitely was a choke job.  But if he can take the lesson, it can be valuable going forward.

I think Drayton must’ve fucked golfclap’s entire family.

Weve covered Drayton’s recruiting woes plenty on here, but I don’t buy for a second that’s Drayton is terrible at coaching his position. Ingram always looked for the cutback/bounce last year and in HS. and because our OL sucked in run blocking, that was the better option a decent amount of the time, although he did hurt us quite a few time doing that last year.

This year, our OL is damn good and Ingram needs to learn to hit the hole instead of looking to bust a big run very play. He’s not doing it, but this has been a consistent thing with Ingram, not something Drayton coached into him. Ingram’s running style works against a lot of teams, but you can’t delay at the LOS against LSU. Ingram needs to learn that lesson and Drayton needs to get Ingram to learn that, but Drayton didn’t ruin Ingram or whatever nonsense is in that OP.

Guys like Zeke and Jordan Howard had their best years ever under Drayton and didn’t struggle with decisiveness.

Is this for real or some sort of shitty satire?

Kidding right?  The overweight, whiskey-pickled brain trust here knows more than any football coaching staff, including ours.  You will therefore many deep, insightful posts on how stupid our coaches are after every hiccup this team faces.  Most of them have to be written on the sly because they're being formulated and re-formulated at the same MENSA meeting Herman attends.

Glad to know you’re the lone bastion of reasonableness on this entire site. Because the Surly “brain trust” has really gotten on board with this thread. This thing could be a real runaway train, if not for you.

Not everyone can get away with the Le'Veon Bell "just stand here until I see a hole form, then burst through it" routine. Ingram can't against a good defense. For that matter, these days perhaps Bell can't, either.

I'm hoping a lot of what's ailing our running game becomes a memory as soon as Whittington comes back. He's just a better overall runner than Ingram is. There's a solid chance RoJo is, too.

Someone pointed out earlier that Drayton hadn’t been officially hired when Carter committed, so not sure.

I say we blame Mehringer.

Been on a flight today and passing through lovely Salt Lake as we speak. This isn't a fucking reactionary thread but goddamn did it draw a bunch of stupid shitfucks from 247 (TRUST THE CORCHES) and football board troglodytes. I'm not fucking saying we need to recruit Earl or Barry Sanders. What I am saying is simple, the current starting RB at Texas was a top 6 RB in the country and he has clearly regressed under Stan Drayton, which is consistent with every RB that has played for him here. I think we should expect for top 10 players to look like top 10 players. If they aren't then that staff member needs to find the door. Do you guys honestly disagree?

I've been saying Drayton is total shit for many moons, this is nothing new or reactionary. I was rewatching the LSU game and noting that Keontay Ingram is clearly and pianfully regressing, just as Daniel Young regressed under Drayton's tutelage. I felt horrible for him because he was clearly in his head and couldn't get out of it. He has the fucking yips right now and it's painful to watch.  There's a reason that some of Tom Herman's first comments in the weekly press conference after thanking the fans were about Ingram and his body language and his handling of adversity.  but ZOMG reactionary thread, right?

There is one single position group that has not shown development under this staff. One. Does anyone want to argue this point? There is not one single RB that has improved and/or developed with this staff. Who disagrees? Which RB has improved and developed?

Does anyone think that Drayton has handled the RB rotations well in any season at Texas? Or does it often seem like we have the wrong RB in for the down and distance, or often simply a less talented player for no apparent reason at all?

Does anyone think that Stan Drayton has recruited to the level that Texas should expect from the RB coach?

Does anyone think that Ingram has improved as a RB in 2019?

Does anyone think that Ingram could be better with a different coach in place? any RB coach?

Does anyone think that Drayton is faultless for the Spinal Tap RB depth chart?

I am being completely serious because I look at this team, look at how the program has been built, look at the talent they are identifying/recruiting, look at the development of the players in their position groups, and the incredible work that the S&C guys have done and then I look at Drayton and the RB room and he is so very clearly the weakest link that it boggles my mind that he remains employed. I think his inability to capably handle any portion of his job may well cost this team and staff a chance at a national title. I truly believe that he will fuck up both Whittington and Johnson's career trajectory if he continues to be employed here and coaching them. I don't even think that's a hot take. At all.  Go back and watch Ingram in any game in 2018 and then watch him in these 2 games from 2019 and tell me he's being developed. Go back and watch Daniel Young run as a FR in 2017 and then watch the stuttering mess he was in 2018 and tell me you don't see the same over-thinking from Ingram right now.

Those of you that disagree please enlighten me.  Be better than TRUST THE CORCHES and ZOMG WE NEED TO RECRUIT EARL SANDERS PAYTON LULZZZZ.

Drayton is not who we thought he was but the focus of our criticism should be with Coach and his defensive staff.

IMO Coach thought Drayton would have already moved on for a HC job but he has been a poor interview and passed on. Hell, coach thought he could get Warehime and Mehringer a package deal as OL/OC coaches. The answers to most of our frustrations are that we have a HC who is growing into the job and is doing a great job at most of his responsibilities.

My buds do not agree with me but I put this LSU loss in the same bucket as the losses to shitty teams we've had over the last two years. We beat the shit out of them and have the better team, our coaching lost this game and that is on Coach Herman.

Might want to reread your original post. Drayton deserves criticism for his recruiting and RB depth. There’s probably a question of how much of that should be shared with Herman.

In regards to Ingram, he’s always been a patient RB that has looked for seams to make cuts. He also got hurt late last year (hip pointer) and didn’t look the same after it. He hurt his knee a few weeks ago and plenty of sites have said he’s playing at 75-80%. He had a bad game against LSU and all of the sudden Drayton sucks as a coach and Ingram has regressed. That is reactionary.

I closed the football board in the middle of the 2nd qtr, for my own health, I'm sure it's been discussed but I feel like I need to post this, for all the talk of Warehime and Meh the assistant coach that sucks the most on this staff is Stan Drayton. Fuck that guy. The next good thing he does or decision he makes will be the first at Texas and don't give me Ingram, he'd have come to Texas if Traylor had been retained or probably just about any other RB coach.

ZERO recruiting impact. Beyond idiotic rotation. Complete lack of development or improvement at the position, in fact he appears to remove good instincts and has the RBs thinking instead of just fucking running.

fuck. that. guy.

recruiting related because he's not going to get Cain or Evans nor has he started moving on secondary or tertiary guys that could fill specific roles in the offense. he's fucking worse than worthless.

Update: he in fact did not get Cain or Evans, nor did he identify a secondary or tertiary guy. He does remain worthless.

The overreactions after losses are always funny. Ingram put up 121 yards of offense against LA Tech and was very productive as a true FR.

Now people are jumping ship on Ingram and Drayton's development because LSU shut him down. A defense that has a coordinator that's finished top 15 in S&P+ defense the last 5 years. Hilarious. This type of reactionary nonsense is so stupid.

First, it's not "people" jumping ship all of a sudden on Drayton. As of today, it's literally the OP and everyone else showing up to disagree with him. I'm not seeing throngs of guys showing up and joining the bandwagon that Drayton is shit. So that's a misrepresentation.

Second, it's just as easy to dismiss Golfclap's kind of post as reactionary bullshit, but that ignores a couple things:

1.) He's been pretty consistent with his message and statements for years now, which is literally the opposite of "Reactionary." It's like someone rolling in here and accusing Machinator of being somewhat machine-like in his behavior, but never before today.

2.) Throwing out how LSU is such a staggering defense and it's just a blip on the radar for Ingram ignores the fact that true freshman, 2 weeks-in RB Roschon Johnson at times looked real fucking good against LSU and specifically for reasons the guy mentioned, purpose and explosion.

Now, I don't agree that Ingram looked like ass against La Tech, I thought he looked great. But I do agree that Daniel Young looked better as a True Freshman than he did as a sophomore. Now, I can admit that I'm somewhat predisposed to Drayton criticism because I can't stand his fucking complete ineptitude as a recruiter, but you guys showing up here accusing this post of being reactionary are being just as knee-jerkingly dismissive as you're accusing Golfclap of being, except you guys ARE actually being reactionary instead of engaging in a conversation, or god forbid even entertaining the hypothesis.

The questions Golfclap is asking are pretty fucking legitimate, and he came armed with supporting evidence and a relatively compelling case. Is he right? Maybe. Maybe Not. Maybe Fuck Yourself. Can Ingram rebound and rush for 1600 yards and can everybody in this thread toss their sweaty balls all over Golfclap's face? Pretty decent chance of that as well, imo.  But this fucking poo poo parade of dismissals feels like the same kind of nauseating bullshit many of us spent years watching when the same fucking morons would defend Greg Davis and scream ARE YOU A COACH?

But what do I know? Oscar Giles's recruiting class just drew their own sweaty nuts all over my forehead so there's that.

That's a lot of words and you didn't say much. The following quote from Golfclap is the definition of "reactionary". A RB that produced in the opener and was shut down by a top 15 caliber defense at 75% health has "regressed"? Please.

As someone said above, these are the same type reactions to Ehlinger after Maryland and Tulsa last year. Who knows where Ingram ends up but to say he's "regressed" is just flat out nonsense.

Blame Drayton for recruiting misses all you want. That's fair game. Saying Ingram has regressed is reactionary nonsense because we lost.

Well, the 9.95ers, and that I've seen, it's just one guy, has said Ingram wasn't 100%. Herman said he was 100% last week and at the close of camp. So that's a pretty big assumption you're taking as fact regarding his health. Johnson looked better at RB on Saturday. Additionally, he cited another RB that looked bad their second year under Drayton, which is supporting evidence. So you can fucking call the guy out for Ehlinger type comparisons after Maryland, and as I said in my post, you might end up right. Most of this board will not at all be surprised if Ingram goes completely apeshit from here on out at all, me included.

Also, you're focusing on just one of his statements you take exception with in a very long post that also discusses the guy's track record of suckitude in recruiting, as well as roster management. Which is indefensibly poor. But you know, there's nothing else worth discussing other than the one sentence that really bothers you.

The good news is, he called his fucking shot, and everyone here can come back and ridicule or eat their shit accordingly as the season(s) progress. Personally, I'm not sold on Drayton in any facet. I don't think Ingram is going to suck shit through a straw from here on out, but considering our level of offensive line play at this point I do expect the guy to have a monster season if he stays healthy. Big If, but we'll see.

1) I think we're much better in pass pro but still issues with run blocking. We're definitely improved in both areas though. Tough to get a read on the run game because I don't think we face another front 7 like LSU all year.

2) I think Drayton's recruiting failures have skewed perception on his actual coaching ability. Like someone said above, Zeke and Howard had their best years under Drayton. If anything Drayton's history with RBs should be an easy sell on his ability to develop. Granted, Zeke and Howard are both talented as hell.

As much as our OL has improved this year, Tre Watson would be having a career season.  Whittington was expected to take that role until his injury and surgery.  Drayton is doing a nice job with RoJo given that his other options were limited with a glass jaw Kirk Johnson, a high ankle sprain to Daniel Young, and  Brown who had a fucking stroke.  Drayton will survive.  Bijan will take care of business.

Fuck this stupid fucking thread. Our coaches took a fucking running QB and in 2 weeks had him running like a baller RB against LSU. Kudos to the kid for his attitude but that is also on coaching. And I remember one point in Jamaal Charles’ career where people were bitching about him regressing. Players have a development curve that isn't  always a straight fucking line.
