Screen pass defense

I missed one very important thing in real time that's going to be key against some teams and probably very helpful against the Big XII slate.  It's easy to miss details amidst the disappointing loss and overall torching of the D but LSU was unable to do much in the screen game and Texas punished the receiver repeatedly.  The end of LSU's first drive set the tone during a 2 play sequence:

Then there was the attempted screen to Edwards-Helaire in the 3rd Q:

Overall LSU was 4 of 7 for 11 yards and one KIA throwing screens and swing passes to the backs in the game.  They only threw one WR screen for 9 yards.  The defense denied most of the high percentage checkdowns, swing and screen passes adn forced Burrow to throw downfield.  He hit some tough passes - far more than anyone who watch him previously could reasonably expect.  I suspect that included our DC.  In any case, the short passing options were usually covered well so there's no reason to think teams will be able to nickel and dime their way to many scores against the Texas Defense.
