A Navy chaplain was fired in March after being caught on video having sex in public at a New Orleans bar, according to USA Today

Navy Capt. Loften Thornton, a chaplain since 1992, lost his job on March 20 and is now under investigation for the incident that took place in a British-style pub, USA Today reports.

Defense Department officials are now reviewing the video of the encounter that the pub owner said took place outside and near the road, just five miles from the city's Marine Reserve.

A spokesman for the Marine Reserve told the newspaper Thornton, who served as a spiritual resource for service members and their families, was fired over a "loss of trust and confidence."

The Pentagon implemented new policies last year aimed at reducing sexually inappropriate conduct within the military, as reports of sexual harassment and assaultswithin U.S. military installations of each branch have increased in recent years.
