It’s going to be immensely satisfying watching this guy get put in the back of a black suburban with handcuffs on.

Then when he's about to get his first butthole check in jail he realizes the long list of Trump associates who have already had their buttholes checked and wonders how he didn't see this coming.

Rudy getting more airtime this week. First the cybersecurity genius who cannot unlock his phone, now the lawyer who negotiates on behalf of the US with whom? Turkey? Iran? to work out a deal in exchange for Zarrab. Which is weird, because that is something that Michael Flynn was apparently doing, too? Rudy is all over the place, and it never smells good when he is around.

Good article on Rudy, Toensing, diGenova, and Ukrainian crooks.  The explanations by Toensing and diGenova seem particularly bullshitty.

CNN article

Quote
Associates noticed a change after Parnas returned to Boca Raton from his summer meetings with Firtash, sources close to the situation told CNN.
Whereas one year earlier, Parnas was telling his wealthy contacts that he was short on cash and needed loans, he was now living the high life — surrounded by bodyguards, traveling in luxury SUVs and jetting up and down the East Coast on private chartered planes.
Quite suddenly, Parnas was able to settle an old debt with local businessman Felix Vulis, whose lawyer previously told CNN that he lent $100,000 to Parnas in October 2018, partly because Parnas claimed to be so poor he could not afford to pay for his own son's bris.
Quote
Firtash's lawyers have downplayed the relationship between their client and Parnas. In statements, they describe Parnas as merely an interpreter hired to communicate with Firtash, who does not speak English.

"Mr. Firtash met Mr. Parnas for the first time in June 2019. Mr. Firtash had no business relationship with Mr. Parnas or Mr. Fruman," according to a statement from the law firm of diGenova & Toensing, which represents Firtash. "Mr. Parnas was retained as a translator by the law firm of diGenova & Toensing. No money has been paid to Mr. Parnas by Mr. Firtash beyond his work as a translator for the law firm."

But two sources who spoke with Parnas tell CNN that he talked about how he was cultivating Firtash for his own business interests. "I'm the best-paid interpreter in the world," Parnas joked to the sources who spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity.

rumor is that Rudy burns thru >$200K per month in personal expenses. Have to wonder how much he has in the bank to keep that lifestyle afloat.  Maybe he has 25m, maybe nothing.

i would think that he’s too toxic for new business coming his direction, either legitimate US clients or shady foreign clients. No one would want to get caught up in DOJ warrants or get Rudy and trumps stank on them.  So Rudy would have zero in new client income.

so his only future income is whatever he has in the bank and whatever previous clients will pay him to keep quiet.

His last wife filed for divorce last year.   Apparently it’s going to be, or was, expensive.

His divorce proceedings

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/13/nyregion/rudy-giuliani-divorce-judith-nathan.html

Quote

A primary issue is Mr. Giuliani’s current income. His wife believes that Mr. Giuliani left his law firm, Greenberg Traurig, in 2018, a month after the divorce was filed, and chose to work for President Trump pro bono in order to reduce any future alimony.

Mr. Giuliani earned $7.9 million in 2016 and $9.5 million in 2017, funding the couple’s roughly $230,000 a month lifestyle, according to Mrs. Giuliani’s lawyers. In 2018, the year he began working for the president, Mr. Giuliani’s earnings dipped to $6.8 million, and he has suggested that this year’s income will be well below that.

Mr. Giuliani now gives his wife $42,000 a month, as well as covering other bills, including the carrying costs for their properties, as ordered by Judge Katz in February. Mrs. Giuliani must pay for the landscaping at their home in Southampton.

That's Giuliani's ex saying that was what they spent as a couple.

That doesn’t mean his monthly costs have gone down. They may have even increased while the divorce is on-going. Rudy doesn’t sound like the type to be investing his money but rather spending it as it’s earned.

Based on some quick searches (do it yourself) he may earn some decent money from real estate sales due to the upcoming divorce but it will hurt him when his no pre-nup divorce is finalized.  what kind of lawyer doesn’t get a pre-nup on his 3rd marriage?

Shoulda listened to his client when it comes to marrying three times:

From Vanity Fair:

Quote

His relationship with Marla Maples had begun in Trumpian glory, with the words “Best Sex I’ve Ever Had” on the front page of the New York Post, but Maples had just given birth to their daughter, Tiffany, and was eager to get married. “I’m going to have to make a decision about Marla...what should I do?” Trump asked his mother around this time. He was 47 years old. Many people in the city believed he was finished.

A source recently passed me a revealing document from this era: Trump’s prenuptial agreement with Maples. Its draconian terms suggest a penuriousness at odds with his public image as a free-spending billionaire in his gilded triplex penthouse. And its confidential financial statements included in the agreement is a sketch of Trump’s immense privilege and the wealth he squandered, telling in both what it illuminates and what is obfuscates.

Quote

Even Donald Trump realized that, when it comes to romance, a prenup is a buzzkill. “A prenuptial is a horrible document,” he once told a reporter, “because it says, ‘When we get divorced, this is the way we’ll split things up.’ And when you’re a believer in positive thinking, it isn’t good. But it’s a modern-day necessity.”

Quote

And Trump had financial incentive to inflate his wealth: if he understated his fortune, Maples could later claim in a divorce that Trump hid money from her at the time, which could void the prenup’s terms. “When you’re doing a prenup, the worry is you understate your assets. If you overstate it, then you’re protected,” a high-profile Manhattan divorce lawyer told me.

I’ve said this before but I really think Rudy went off the reservation when Hillary torpedoed his Senate run 20 years ago.  She continues to stab him today.

Then followed four tumultuous weeks, in which Giuliani's medical life, romantic life, marital life, and political life all collided at once in a most visible fashion. Giuliani discovered that he had prostate cancer and needed treatment; his extramarital relationship with Judith Nathan became public and the subject of a media frenzy; he announced a separation from his wife Donna Hanover; and, after much indecision, on May 19, 2000 he announced his withdrawal from the Senate race.[119]

I'm sorry Rudy, what 2016 Ukraine collusion and corruption are you talking about? Your boss has stated numerous times he wasn't involved in any collusion. We all know you were working on getting Ukraine to claim they had dirt on the Bidens. Running an illegal off the books election fraud campaign for Trump.

All Rudy can dredge up is a former intern + some lackeys for legal counsel now.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/06/nyregion/giuliani-trump-impeachment-lawyers.html

Quote

President Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudolph W. Giuliani, said on Wednesday that he had assembled a legal team to represent him in the criminal investigation into his activities related to Ukraine, an announcement that came after weeks of sputtered attempts to find a lawyer willing to take him on as a client.

Mr. Giuliani said on Twitter that he would be represented by three lawyers, including his longtime friend, Robert J. Costello. The hires show how serious Mr. Giuliani is treating the inquiry by federal prosectors in Manhattan, who are investigating whether he violated lobbying laws in his efforts to dig up damaging information about Mr. Trump’s rivals.

Quote

The hires came after a weekslong search to find a lawyer who would represent Mr. Giuliani, who rose to prominence as the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, the same office that is now investigating him. He has a wide range of close associates — including former prosecutors and judges — who could have taken him on as a client.

Quote

But at least four prominent attorneys declined for various reasons, according to people familiar with the matter. They included Mary Jo White, who also once led the United States attorney’s office for the Southern District, as well as Theodore V. Wells Jr., a trial lawyer at Paul, Weiss, according to people familiar with those discussions.

Quote

Another was Daniel L. Stein, a former senior prosecutor who recently held top posts in the Southern District, where he oversaw the prosecutions of public officials including Sheldon Silver, the former speaker of the New York State Assembly, and Dean Skelos, the State Senate majority leader.

Quote

Mr. Giuliani’s trouble in hiring a lawyer mirrored Mr. Trump’s own difficulties attracting a top law firm to represent him as the probe by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, dragged into a second year. That difficulty — and Mr. Trump’s desire for a more vocal representative — was how the president ended up hiring Mr. Giuliani.

Mr. Costello and Mr. Giuliani’s relationship dates to their time in the United States attorney’s office in Manhattan, where Mr. Costello was Mr. Giuliani’s intern.

Phrases like "who is" and "may have" in a headline don't really suggest that it's a particularly informative article.

The overall article is interesting as it references some of the background information, like the Ukrainian oligarch/mobster who was pissed that Lev and Igor were trying to shake him down for a Zelensky meeting, and publicly predicted an impending scandal months before it broke.  The 'mooch connections are also kind of interesting. I think the "Charles" speculation is reasonable, but the context of the butt dial is so sparse, it doesn't really matter much.  Maybe Charles is looking to sue if he doesn't get compensated for his position in Fraud Guarantee.  Maybe not.

I have no idea what the focus on Christienne is intended to add.  Rudy's business connection to Guicciardo appears to be well documented by other means. Yeah, she is a young, nutty, baby-Trumpster who has likely networked well to get a position with Rudy. I'm not sure why it merits more than a side note. If there is a more sinister or damning implication, I'm missing it.

Twitter speculation is

I think it’s more a case of somebody who is really young, using their connections to work their way into the middle of a lot of major shit that’s happening.   Old people like Rudy can get it in their head that they don’t understand the cyber, and they need a millennial to do this shit.

She’s young enough and far enough removed that none of this should taint her.

I think the "Charles" speculation is reasonable, but the context of the butt dial is so sparse, it doesn't really matter much.

I thought about this aspect of the story, and the basic arrangement, and I think it's worth speculating more on.

Quote

“You know,” Giuliani says at the beginning of the recording, “Charles would have a hard time with a fraud case ’cause he didn't do any due diligence.”

....

That personal injury firm is Gucciardo Law, headed by Charles Gucciardo. Last week Giuliani and Gucciardo confirmed to the New York Times that Gucciardo gave $500,000 to the former mayor through Giuliani’s firm, Giuliani Partners, in two payments in September and October 2018. According to Gucciardo’s lawyer, the payments went to Giuliani on behalf of Fraud Guarantee, a company co-managed by Giuliani’s clients Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman. Their work with Fraud Guarantee — whose mission statement is to help their customers “reduce and mitigate fraud” — helped earn them a federal indictment last month.

....

Gucciardo’s lawyer told the Times the funds were loans convertible into equity in the company. As the Times pointed out, though, Fraud Guarantee doesn’t seem to have any clients or customers, and it’s unclear why someone in Gucciardo’s position — an experienced lawyer — would invest half a million dollars in such a company. Per Gucciardo’s lawyer, he did so because Giuliani was involved, and Giuliani was “the first name in cybersecurity.”

In a conversation, Stephen LaMagna, a lawyer who represents Gucciardo, told me, “Mr. Gucciardo’s investment in the company was and remains a loan pursuant to executed promissory notes.” This means Gucciardo hasn’t been repaid and could sue if he believes he’s been defrauded. Parnas once pursued a similar scam, and still hasn’t paid despite a court ruling against him.

As for Giuliani’s relationship with Gucciardo, he told me, “Charles is a good man. The loan is due in mid 2020 and I am certain it will be honored as a conversion to stock or both or satisfied as he desires.” It is currently not clear whether a Fraud Guarantee public offering is in the works.

So, that's the basic set-up.  For all those who want to learn how launder money without buying 23 subscriptions to Ebony, this is what it looks like  The goal is to obscure the source of the money.  You set up a business with nebulous sources of income, and then you report earnings on that company so you can then spend that money.  The Mob would use restaurants, bars and strip joints, because they were cash businesses for which it was nearly impossible to prove how much revenue was really there.  Let's say there is 10k in the register at the end of the night, you add 5k of dirty money, report on 15k, and now you have 15k of clean money.

Fraud Guarantee was probably going to be a cyberconsulting firm.  While it might have been difficult to mask the source of the revenue, the value of the services would not have a verifiable market value.  Lev and Igor could sell their vast cybersecurity services to a number of Firtash's companies.  What they actually did for those fees - maybe just "review" current security measures - would be unknown.  But Ukrainian money would be converted to American company funds.  It's less obvious than paying Lev and Igor directly for translating services.

But it would take a while to get going.  In the meanwhile, Gucciardo paid Rudy 500k, based on a stake in the shell company. With scrutiny on the company, Firtash can't direct money to it, so Gucciardo is left with a worthless loan.  Not only are they looking at potential legal issues, they are (at least) $500k out of money.  It make sense that they would be looking for a way to recover it from Rudy.  The butt dial indicates Rudy needs "a few hundred thousand dollars" and an assessment of whether Charles (probably Gucciardo) has a case for fraud.  But I think a lawsuit would be the least of his worries.

I'd toss this in - if she has the family/work connections, she's going to be trusted by Rudy.   That is, she's not some random/unknown hire off the street.    Rudy doesn't seem like the type to hire people he can't trust for positions close to him.

She might not even understand what is going on, and/or she might be willing to look the other way just to have this on her resume, whereas older and more established folks might raise a stink or have avoided the job.
