Surly Dad Thread

My 14 yo has entered full teenage stage. Total DA, does nothing we ask, back talking, yelling and general jackass. Every time we turn our back he’s sneaking Nintendo or iPhone when he’s supposed to be doing something else. Simple things take hours. He takes his phone into bathroom for 8 “shits” per day. We haven’t even gotten into the sneaking out and drinking phase, yet. Had to pray to the Lord today to ensure I didn’t beat his ass. Please tell me this will pass. Enjoy those early years as long as you can.

This too shall pass . . . although it might be like passing a kidney stone.

Do you do the Heimlich on small kids/toddlers? I could have sworn they said not to in a cpr class. Said it was better to hit them on the back.

Yes.  Everyone, but especially new parents, should take a basic diary aid course.  Know the different techniques based on age, and even how to do it on yourself if you are home alone.

I’ve somehow kept this little miracle alive for a month now. Man this is hard. The sleep is a joke at this point, but when he looks into your eyes, you can’t help but melt.
Tried our first night in his Snoo, and he slept for 3 hours straight. I almost started crying. Had his monthly checkup. In 99th percentile in size. I’m 6’5” and wife is 5’10.5” ish. He’s got a good chance to be massive.

its funny that the stuff you worried about before don’t seem to matter as much. I used to wish that i could wake up and they were 3. Now, I don’t want to miss a thing. He’s made all the pain, anger, sadness, bitterness, and suffering go away. Love having my little buddy.

Snoo is hard just DON'T GIVE UP

It takes a while for them to get their circadian rhythm but once they do and sleep 8+ hours consistently it's so so so worth it.

Do you guys do the double swaddle? Some of the velcro ones inside the snoo one?.made a gigantic difference for both of ours!

Man, don’t ever want to speed it up. Soak it all in and take a ton of pictures and video. It won’t be long, you’ll start wishing he was little again.

my daughter was good in just the regular snoo swaddle. son has been very strong and very much wanting to move around since day 1, he got the bat wing swaddle and even sometimes a towel around his legs to keep them still and give them a little bit of elevation.

the book we read for both of them was 12 Hours Sleep by 12 Weeks Old. We didn't get quite to 12 hours but it was successful with both of them. The girl we were catching up after a bad start when we needed to figure out how we could all sleep. The boy we started right off the bat and it was a piece of cake, just slowly stretching out the time between nighttime feeds until he was sleeping through the night. Lol that shitty 2am wakeup/feed, kinda miss it now.

\m/ to you ocugolf, glad it has worked out for you guys and you get to have that little buddy

Is that the elastic straps inside and then the rest of the swaddle goes on top? Like to keep them in place? He seems to do ok with it so far.

Good! Then don't worry about it

Batwing / velcro swaddle, then those inside straps, then the snoo zip thing is what we had to do to keep them from . breaking out

Brb googling how to clean spit up out of a chair made of shag carpet

My older son ate a lot of peanut butter sandwiches as a child.  I'll never forget trying to clean up peanut-butter puke out of the carpet in the middle of the night when he was about 8 years old.
