If Texas pays Graham fucking Harrell $2 mil per to be OC, college football has officially gone mental.  Don't get me wrong, I hope you do to crater SC further, but seriously.  It's not like he's Sean Payton or even Sean McVay.

Meh. He turned North Texas into a top 20 offense and then did the same thing at USC with the 2nd/3rd string QBs.

I’d rather take a chance on a young offensive mind - than pay some retread 1.25 million to keep the offense as is.

This would be a major development on the ‘Herman has to change drastically for this to work’ front if Harrell is the guy.

It would also confirm the smoke signals from the "bright future" meme we've now seen above the  signatures of therm, cdc and fenves.

It would also give strong support to the timing of certain conversations between therm and cdc, which could explain the ravioli-love presser.

It’s like Groundhog Day, paying too much money for a young, unproven OC, in an attempt to save a head coach’s  job who should have been fired for his initial shitty staff choices.

Cow/Calf were Harrell at UNT. Harrell proved at USC this season that he knew what the hell he was doing and could do it at the P5 level.

In 2019, Harrell>>>Greg Davis, Shawn Watson, Tim Beck, Jimbo Fisher, Sterlin Gilbert, and probably many more.

That's almost definitely true.

Honestly, since Harsin left, Norvell has been the only OC we've had who earned his paycheck. And he only got the job by default, which is just mind-bottling.

Super K on TFB is saying Harrell is very likely going to accept the Texas offer which is around 2 million per year. He’s waiting for a USC counter but including taxes they would have to nearly eclipse Heltons salary to match

Bullshit. Top state income tax in CA is 13 percent. Meaning a match of $2mm in Texas equates to a little over $2.25mm in CA including taxes, assuming same federal liability - nd it wouldn't be because of the SALT deduction. Helton makes more than that. Even if you're talking overall COL that's still probably bullshit, as Helton makes well above $3mm.

That said, yes $2mm is silly for a coordinator of Graham Harrell's stature, but here we (both - Texas and SC) are.

You're asking an up and coming coordinator in demand to relocate to a situation where the HC is sitting in a pretty warm seat. Yah, you're probably gunna have to overspend.

95% of P5 FB coaches are on the hot seat if they shit the bed, this is not unique.

Let’s remember this is coming from FCB, who’s always been for hire and agents use him often.

Regardless of Harrell’s success, 2 million a year is crazy money for what he’s accomplished.

An offensive football wizard who can turn Mason Fine and Kedon Slovis into "one year wonder" studs is special.  Pay the young man.  Piss on the retreads that have populated the Texas coaching staff for many years.

They’re not.  LSU, Bama, UGA all run 3 man fronts. Win and play good defense and you’ll get the best DL.

Spend $40m+ to buy out thermensa, his staff, and the startup costs to retool,

or...

Spend a couple of $2m money whips plus another $3m across 4-5 new hires.

$40m or $5m.

Bonus: things are quiet in the national media.

Double bonus: we spend the $40m and that's all the excuse aggy needs to buy out jimbo.  with our money.

Who cares? Are we or are we not the richest athletic program in the country? Maybe it's time to fucking start acting like it. And it's not like the money is coming out of any of our pockets.

Super K is FCB?

Obviously it's not unique, but when you're Texas and shit is taking this long to get turned around, who really gives a shit?

If it's not capped, and not my money, I'm not gunna be that concerned about someone else's pockets.

For a second I thought this was copied and pasted from the aggy board from two years ago.

Fucking this. Paying this kind of money isn't going to prevent something else from happening elsewhere.

Gary Kubiak would be an interesting candidate. Good at quickly improving offenses and has Texas ties. Bonus... Would piss off a lot of Ags if he came to Texas and helped turn the program around.

Are we just throwing names out at this point?  Why would a guy who has essentially been an NFL lifer suddenly have interest in switching to the college game at this point in his career?

Fuck it. Let’s see what Belichick has to say about the DC opening.

Fuck aggy.  Texas will make good choices, we may pay above market value fot Harrell, but then we profit.  This is very unlike the Jimbo  75 mil/100 year decision foolishness.  Get a grip.

All true, and proof FFTH wasn't retained because of his buyout.  Buyout will drop $5M next year, guaranteed assistant money will probably increase ~$10M, when we fire him next year.

Like aggy, we’re desperate right now. Not $75MM guaranteed desperate, but pretty fucking desperate.

Well, you have a head coach with limited experience and you tell him he has a blank check and everyone he calls knows he has a blank check, well.....the cost of coaching is gonna go up.

SIAP -- Some news on Tony Gibson...

NC State has named their new defensive coordinator

Tony Gibson, the former West Virginia defensive coordinator, who joined the staff back in January as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach, has been promoted to the defensive play calling role on Dave Doeren’s staff.

Just like an attorney who asks the defendant a question, he should already know the answer to his own question.  So, my thinking is that before a head coach fires his coordinators, that head coach should have a very good idea who is available and would upgrade his program.  A Mensa should know.  I’m thinking Mensa has a good idea of who he wants.  Now, I’m curious how this pans out.

I dreamed it in my head...Harrell throwing the horns up and singing the Eyes of Texas after skull fucking OU in the conference championship game next year.  One can only dream...

It’s too bad we don’t play aggy any more.  I’ve found that Tech’s hatred for aggy far surpasses their hate for us.  If we played them still and Harrell was our OC, I’d imagine his face would look like this during the game...

Ah yes. Our current peers.

Win and play good defense *and put kids in the league and you’ll get the best DL.

Your original post implied that we should prioritize moving to a four-man line if elite DL recruits. It was correctly pointed out that multiple teams consistently land elite DL talent and put guys in the league using three-man fronts. Now those examples don't count because they're not our peers.

In addition to resorting to moving the goalposts, you've successfully articulated the initial argument against your own point. The elite programs land elite DL talent. Not because of the front they run, but because they win and get guys drafted.

Yeah, and porn movies have a plot.  They both have about the same value.

In defense of those who claimed to read Playboy for the articles, it had several regular writers and cartoonists - such as Jean Shepherd and Gahan Wilson - who were always among the very first things to be examined, Donna Michelle notwithstanding.

EDIT: Jean Shepherd wrote the original bit which turned into one of our all-time favorite holiday movies, A Christmas Story. Most of his writings there were incredibly funny, recalling his childhood in Indiana, and reading much like the narration from that movie.
