The taylor swift credit card song gave me the inspiration for this thread.Ā  Everyone recognizes the destruction reaped by Antares Technology and their Auto-Tune technology that is now just over 20 years old.

These people need the clicks so read there....

But it is so much more than that.Ā  Artists that do not compose the music or lyrics or perform the instruments live are not making music.Ā  Artists that screech through Auto-Tune are not actually signing.

These links have lots of topics that could use exploration.....

I don't ever hear it so I don't know. I either listen to classic rock in my car or my iPod. I have aĀ classic 30Gb with about 1000 songs on it. I've been listening to it on shuffle for fifteen years. I also have about 1000 albums on my computer but I rarely listen to that anymore either.

What cracks me up is all of the classic rock being used to sell dishwashing soap and luxury cars. Our parents thought it was so subversive 45 years ago.Ā

At least they're not showing "Elvis' pelvis" - amirite? Ā

In the early 1600s Artusi criticized Monteverdiā€™s unresolved dissonance inĀ Cruda Amarilli.Ā Monteverdi clapped back calling it an expressive device and calling Artusiā€™s way the old way (prima pratica). This roughly marks the beginning of the 150 year Baroque period.Ā

T-Pain may not beĀ Monteverdi and robot voices may not be the new secondaĀ praticaĀ but itā€™sĀ stuck around for about 20 years now. I think itā€™s worth exploring as a legitimate expressive device, even if most of the music that uses it is, like all music, forgettable at best.Ā

Iā€™d say the same for the sausage making approach to technical perfection that is current day recording techniques.
