Didn’t they do a whole thing bitching about streaming services? Now you can’t even watch on cable? That’s annoying.

This is a ”special”, not part of a regular season.

When they finally get to a “season”, it will be on CC as usual.

Yes it’s part of the deal they made with Paramount

Yeah, there's still some weird contract/rights shit going on, and Paramount gets these "specials" and there is a lawsuit between HBOMax and Paramount.

https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/south-park-lawsuit-hbo-max-sues-paramount-1235534780/

The lawsuit alleges that when HBO Max bid on the “South Park” streaming rights, it did so with the assurance that there would be three new seasons of 10 episodes each. The suit alleges, however, that only two episodes were delivered for the first of those seasons and only six for the second. HBO Max understands that the third season will also consist of of six episodes — for a total of 14 across the three seasons.

The suit alleges that new episodes are far more valuable than old ones, and that therefore HBO Max dramatically overpaid for the library.

Meanwhile, in 2021, MTV — a Paramount subsidiary — announced a $900 million deal with Parker and Stone for exclusive “South Park” content that would run on Paramount+. In the press release, an MTV executive was quoted as saying that the deal would “help fuel Paramount+.”

The suit also quotes Stone as saying, “We have fuck you money now” in reference to the deal.

HBO Max argues that the deal required diverting content that should have fallen under its 2019 contract to Paramount+ instead. The suit alleges that Paramount engaged in “verbal trickery” and “grammatical sleight-of-hand,” characterizing the new content as “movies,” “films” or “events” — but not “episodes” — to avoid its obligations under the 2019 agreement.

Under the MTV deal, Paramount+ would get 14 “made for streaming” movies. Four of those “movies” have already run on Paramount+: “South Park: Post Covid,” “South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid,” “South Park The Streaming Wars Part 1,” and “South Park The Streaming Wars Part 2.”

Is this on Comedy Central or Paramount Plus? I can't figure out anymore which South Park and can see and which I can't. I'm not even sure I want to watch the "Panderverse" special. From the ads it sounds like the preachy South Park that's not as funny. Yeah we get it, movie studios are including more women and gay versions of characters. It feels like the Streaming Wars special that was way too preachy and not very funny. Pi Pi is a terribly unfunny character, who decided we needed two full movies with him as a lead?

Also, my six year old son knows about Prime drink because they advertise on some of the Youtube videos he likes. It's just Gatorade, right?

So turns out my wife re-started the PP subscription last month, lol. Watched Panderverse and Cred. As I suspected, Panderverse was annoying and preachy. We fucking get it already. A few funny parts but just Bill Maher style grumpfest in my opinion. Cred was pretty good, Randy with his dick out made me laugh way too hard. Overall pretty good.

I've been watching some old clips and I kind of wish they'd do more random comedy with the characters. Not everything has to be topical. I'm not sure the current stuff will have the staying power of the old stuff because it's just way too specific to points in time. Even on trans issues and whatnot Mr(s). Garrison was pretty funny. Him as trump wasn't nearly as funny.

Not south park, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone are making a movie with Kendrick Lamar!

https://hiphopdx.com/news/kendrick-lamar-films-comedy-movie-south-park-creators

The as-yet-untitled film will “depict the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his,” according to a synopsis.

‘¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!’

Documentary on ‘South Park’ Creators Sets Paramount+ Release Date

The film has earned nearly $125,000 at the box office in limited release, making it one of the highest-grossing documentaries of the year.

Start planning your fiestas now: Hit documentary “¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” will launch on Paramount+ this week.

The film tells the story of how “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker worked to save beloved Colorado-based Mexican restaurant Casa Bonita, which was immortalized in a classic episode of their animated show.

“¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” will have its streaming debut on Paramount+ Wednesday, October 2 in the United States. The film has had a very limited theatrical run, but it has performed exceptionally well for a documentary, bringing in just shy of $125,000. “¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” has been one of the highest-grossing documentaries of the year.

Is Comedy Central ever going to have new episodes again?  I am going to delete the season pass for this because it records every episode on any channel it appears on even though it's set for only new ones.

Man, I know Matt and Trey are absolutely swimming in money that they couldn't spend in a dozen lifetimes, but there has to be some regret with where the IP is now with all of the cross-streaming. Just have no idea--or desire to know, at this point--what's coming out when and where. I have access to all the platforms and occasionally see a new special or whatever and just have no interest in clicking anymore.

TBH, I think they're a little at ends with South Park. Reality is often fucking dumber than the show itself, and their show has been used to propagate a few hate campaigns they're probably not too proud of, like the whole trans sports thing that's been culture warring. It's shocking how many times I've heard "Randy Savage in a tutu" when folks talk about that issue

Paramount+ exclusive. Only specials.

A new season is expected sometime next year.  They're taking 2024 off due to the election - they don't want to do another election season.

I think it's the specials on Paramount+ and short seasons (6 or so episodes) on HBO/Comedy Central.

“We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to — it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance,” Stone recently explained. “Obviously, it’s f*cking important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun.” Parker added, “I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”

“It’s just way more fun to be like, Cartman’s going to dress up like a robot,” Stone said in an interview with Vanity Fair. He also discussed the state of comedy in 2024. “The stuff I’m jealous of is TikTok — like, ‘That’s a great joke, that looks like they had fun doing it,’ and then you move on,” the voice of Kyle, Kenny, Butters, Tweek, Craig, Jimbo, Gerald, Big Gay Al, etc. said. “We both just have endless respect for that.” However, Stone still prefers “writing a story and building a frame so that you can do more complicated stuff.”

What makes you think they regret that?

I've lost a lot of interest, not just because I can't figure out where the new stuff is, but everything they've done in recent years has leaned way too heavy into social commentary and far less on the characters being funny on their own merits. I haven't even seen the Ozimpic special yet, I have a pretty good feeling what their approach will be on that topic. Just feels super preachy with a libertarian-ish tilt. I might see it eventually, maybe not. The new Kendrick Lamar thing seems dubious as well. Baseketball and Orgazmo were peak Matt and Trey, that era of South Park was terrific too. I'd be fine if they just called it on South Park at this point.

I thought HBO had new seasons still? Granted they have a larger gap between than they used to.

Things are getting bad there. This was August.

Cartoon Network has been scrubbed from the web.  Warner Bros. Discovery this week pulled the entire contents of cartoonnetwork.com offline — redirecting visitors to a landing page on Max, its subscription-streaming service, encouraging fans to sign up to watch their favorite Cartoon Network shows. The shuttering of the site appears to have happened Thursday, Aug. 8.

Quote

“Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required),” a pop-up message says on the new Max landing page. “Sign up for Max, where you can also create a Kids Profile with ratings restrictions and additional privacy protections to keep it fun and kid-friendly! Cable subscribers, continue to enjoy your favorite CN programming on your TV and connected apps as well!”

Quote

In a statement, a Cartoon Network spokesperson told Variety: “We are focusing on the Cartoon Network shows and social media where we find consumers are the most engaged and there is a meaningful potential for growth.” The rep noted that on linear TV, the Cartoon Network will continue to offer 11 hours of programming from 6 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.

The Cartoon Network site had previously offered full episodes and video clips for its roster of shows, including “Adventure Time,” “Craig of the Creek,” “The Amazing World of Gumball,” “Teen Titans GO!,” “Steven Universe,” “We Bare Bears” and “Clarence.” The site also offered access to free games, including games for “Teen Titans GO!”, “Adventure Time” and “Gumball.”

The shutdown of cartoonnetwork.com comes a week after WBD told subscribers it will sunset the Boomerang classic ‘toon streamer effective Sept. 30 — and migrating customers (and the content catalog) over to Max.

WBD’s killing off of the Cartoon Network appears to be a cost-cutting move, as well as one intended to spur fans to pay up for Max. In a series of similar moves, Paramount Global earlier this summer removed a huge trove of content from Comedy Central’s site and pulled the full archive of MTV News and CMT from the internet.

This was earlier in the week

Warner’s handling of Cartoon Network and its animated legacy in recent months is something that could diplomatically be described as “not ideal,” between the closure of the iconic Cartoon Network Studios building last year, the cancelation of multiple series, and, most recently, the surprising complete closure of Cartoon Network’s website and its archive of free streaming clips and episodes. Now, there’s even further tumult, after several popular CN series found themselves vanished from Max today… after Warner Bros had already redirected fans away from other places to watch those shows to watch them on Max instead.

Quote

Today several users reported that a handful of significant Cartoon Network shows—including Ben 10, Steven Universe, Regular Show, the 2016 Powerpuff Girls revival, Amazing World of Gumball, We Bare Bears, and Chowder—were suddenly no longer streaming on Max with the turn of the month, with no prior announcement of their impending removal.
