I assumed that The Chapo Trap House was satire but the Leftist Incel movement seems to be a sincere group of people. The thing that I don't understand is the blatant misogyny carried out by these self-described leftists. You claim to be for progressive ideas but act like Right Wing hate groups?

This thread popped up on my timeline yesterday and I must say I found the entire thing pretty bizarre. It's a bit of a read but the TL/DR version was woman mentions Chapo Trap House on Twitter and then the online attacks result in misogynist insults.

Listen to what socialist women are saying about misogyny on the left

I don't doubt that there is misogyny among some members of the left, but that almost, by definition excludes them from being on the left.

I'm not going to bother reading whatever you posted. The premise is absurd, and I've never heard of Chapo Trap House.

Definitely some misogyny in the brogrammer tech culture.  The practitioners I’ve witnessed are mostly unaware, but that doesn’t mean their female counterparts feel any less uncomfortable.  It’s a lot like the “that’s what she said!” culture here, actually.  I find it interesting that I’ve made some remarks here that would fall into this category and been rightly called out for it, but I’ve avoided it completely in normal work/social settings.

You are going with the No True Scotsman defense?

This I can relate to, I've been working out of Silicon Valley in the Security field for years and the issue of misogyny in the industry has recently come to a head as more females have entered the industry. A lot of guys are just coming to the realization that they do in fact do not treat women as equals despite being politically aligned with the left. Part of it might have to do with the industry traditionally being a refuge for the socially awkward and never really having to interact with females.

Those guys are legitimately funny. Adopting that kind of “fuck your decorum” stance and going for laughs however many hours a week seems like it makes it easy to say shitty stuff, and if you’re doing political... punditry/commentary/movement building stuff in the same deal, I think it can become hard to distinguish between what is an exaggerated comedic stance and what is the position. For both them and the audience.

But, I’ve only listened to a few of the podcasts to see what the deal was with those guys. They are actually quite funny, but also easy to hate.

Yeah, I agree that it’s probably a legacy of the industry being dominated by male alpha-nerds for a long time.

LOL that male alpha nerd culture is horrible, I thrived in it most of my career. It was also something my wife took a very hard stance on early in our marriage when it used to bleed into my personal life. Honestly, it took me awhile to realize that it was a problem but it was something my wife insisted was improper and I eventually realized she was right.

Misogyny and sexism aren’t exclusive to either political party.

Or any specific industry.

Or any region of the country.

Unfortunately, men are everywhere.
(Only sort of kidding)

Some of the most progressive posters on this very board engage in “soft misogyny” often.

I’ve posted quite a few rants about it.

Sorry your wife won't let you play xbox on weeknights.

Consoles are for children or people that lack the basic intelligence to build a quality gaming rig. With that said, yes I am forbidden from gaming on weekdays. So, I smoke pot and post on Surly instead.

This woman pretended to stumble upon an event held by people she hates and talks about all the time.

I, personally, love to walk past a Starbucks with my phone at 25% and go into a bookstore to charge it. (What?)

And then she calls THIS misogynist harassment, which... how? What?

White women are getting WILD out here.

I gave them about four listens.  I thought they were pretty unfunny, try thought they did, but I'm a couple generations from these guys.

I remember listening to a recent podcast that kind of had the theory that the combination of modern modes of on line communication, the need to be politically correct at universities, and beer were creating a particularly surprising and odious form of frustrated drunken sexism.   Seemed kind of persuasive to me.  There are few places where you can act out these days but you can go to town on line.

When I unbutton my pants and they fall down and I trip into a mop bucket full of sudsy water and it gets all over my now-exposed butt and people laugh?

They did an oppression on me.

When my wife told me I shouldn’t play XBox, I told her in no uncertain terms that I work hard and am entitled to a little down time playing GTA if that’s what I want to do, and that there’s nothing wrong with a grown man spending time that way.  After I asserted my authority we came to an understanding, and now I don’t play XBox anymore until she leaves town.

I sleep in a racing car, do you?

Wait, do y’all’s wives really give y’all shit about playing XBox???

Like, as long as my husband is kind to me and our kids and cuts the grass and takes out the garbage and cleans the pool and grills meat for us, I don’t care what he does to relax or have fun.

I truly don’t get controlling your partner in that way.

He doesn’t tell me I cannot enjoy my hobbies, hell he actually encourages me to do more activities and stuff because I can be a bit of a homebody.

I really hope y’all are exaggerating because if not I feel bad for y’all.

My wife started playing Rocket League because she saw me playing Rocket League, and then any time I was playing Rocket League she wanted to play with me on the other xbox, and she sucks at Rocket League, and so I stopped playing Rocket League and now she just plays Rocket League alone.

I'm not defending much of anything. Since I care so little about the op (not enough and still not enough to click the link), I probably shouldn't have bothered posting, either.

I agreed that there is misogyny in the left. I also meant that misogyny is not something advocated or defended by whom I presume you are labeling "the left."

Imagine today's "right." Does disregard for government spending, government debt, and government deficit make those people really of the right? They might be called Trumpists or just Republicans and they are decidedly not conservatives whose values define the right.

The casual misogyny mentioned above associated with the tech industry, if true, is despicable. Is it bad manners or politics? I'd say manners or ingrained prejudice or whatever. Doesn't matter. They don't stand with me on what was once moderate ground that a change in the sun's course has turned to leftist ground.

Thanks for re-introducing no true Scotsman to me. I hadn't heard it in ages and had forgotten all about it. I don't, however, think it applies to the totality of my post. Sorry if I was unclear.

This is likely going to be labeled virtue signalling, but here goes.

I've been with my beloved for 17 years. We're both still torn between spending time with each other and doing the things we like to do on our own. Time together is pretty high quality. We still amuse each other and spend a lot of time laughing. Her taste in entertainment is as broad as mine, so modern TV streaming provides just about endless fodder.

I don't know if I have rare luck in such a well fit mate or if those describing their own lives just fall into cliche because it's perhaps uncomfortable to suggest what I have above.

Now I'm thoroughly enjoying reading this thread, so thanks for starting it. For the record, I haven't thought F250 is mindlessly partisan or mindlessly anything.

My wife tells me every once in a while that I should go back and start playing the Sims again.

"You were really quiet then."
