The rule is not just that the runner can't go outside the lane, but also "in so doing interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base."  It wasn't a throw from the catcher where he was in the line of the throw.   Even if it had been, he got to the bag ahead of the throw. Just an awful call.

It doesn't matter that he wasn't in line with the throw -- the throw could be coming from left field, and if he interferes with the 1st baseman trying to catch the throw while outside the running lane, he's out.  BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THE RULE BOOK SAYS.  And he was not to the base before the throw got there.  He hadn't reached the base yet.

Don't be silly.  Of course it matters what the line of the throw was.  If the throw had come from right field, interference would have been an impossibility with the running path he took.  If what you were saying were true, there wouldn't be an interference component to the call.  The rule would just be that you're out if you step out of the lane during the last half of the run.

The problem with Shag is a 40K post thread being constantly reloaded by people....this is why back when the Rangers made runs like this Blacklab was smart to make the thread get broken up into first half/second half/post season....but now we have aggy managing the place.

No it doesn't.  If the 1st baseman comes off the bag to catch a throw and gets run into by the batter who is out of the running lane, that's interference and it doesn't matter where the throw comes from.

Is the stupid TCU guy looking like Violet from Willy Wonka on the main page? Not sure why he thinks that's a great idea.

Great series.  Was asked Monday during lunch by a stranger in DC no doubt, if I was proud to wear my Nats cap?  I've always worn one so yeah, but guess I'm going to the same place again tomorrow.  Damn there are some rude fans.

You're like a guy in a math debate who keeps saying, "2 + 2 = 5," and you can't understand that it doesn't no matter how many ways it's explained to you by multiple people.

You're just wrong, dude.  Stop.

The call was correct.  It wasn't even close.  You cannot run with both feet inside the baseline.  And you cannot run into a fielder's glove as he tries to make the play.  For Christ's sake, there's an extra line painted on the field outside the baseline to indicate the lane to run in.

Turner is over the top of the line at the point of contact on a throw that pulled the 1B off the bag. There will clearly be no agreement here, so you will find more support in the other thread.

Strasburg let his nuts hang tonight where so many other pitchers flounder. I for one am glad to see him continue his post season run.

We all just witnessed one of the best performances in World Series history by a pitcher. Try and enjoy what you saw. He did something we might never see again.

We will see 9.1 again. It was just 4 years ago when we had a complete game in the WS.

Granted it's getting rarer and rarer but it will happen once in a blue moon.

urquidy wasn't shabby...although expectations were a bit different.

Hard to think the Nats have much of a shot tomorrow. Scherzer can’t be any better than 50% healthy, meanwhile the Astros have a fully rested Greinke & Urquidy, and Cole on 3 days rest.

Don't you put that evil on us, Helobious.  You pick the Nationals right now, dammit.

First 6-0 road team series in MLB, NHL, NBA history. Out of 1420 all time series.

Setting a precedent by losing the only playoff series where every game was won on the road would be par for the Houston sports course.  1986 Astros eliminated at home in game 6 in maybe the greatest MLB game ever played.  Oilers lose to Buffalo in the biggest comeback ever in the NFL.  UH loses to NC State in what at the time was called one of the greatest NCAA title game upsets ever.  I've watched Nolan Ryan lose a 1-hitter and 2-hitters.  Oilers screwed out of a Super Bowl appearance by a horrible call in Pittsburgh that resulted in the NFL adopting instant replay.  It's not logical or rationally explainable, but sometimes sports play out in an inexplicable but poetic fable of fate.

You can put up whatever stats you want to explain how the Astros might be favored tomorrow, but as a longtime Houston native, I know what will happen.

Well see. Greinke isn’t exactly the most level headed guy, and he’s pitching in the biggest game of his life. Plus, I bet he’s more like 70% with a lot of PKs and an injection. Astros are at home with the better team, but I’ll trust an amped up Scherzer over Greinke.
