Urban Meyer or bust

What ethical sewer?

Who is cheating their asses off right now? Who did 5 years ago? This isn't a hard question. And what did they get for it? National championships that won't get taken away and lose scholarships for a season.

We have all seen the instagram cash pics of 18 year olds at gas stations in their hometowns. This is smu all over again without the penalty and the "smart" schools know it. Cancel Alabama: take a big money hit. Hell, aggy is buying in right before our eyes.

I think RD is just pointing out Herman chooses odd hills to die on. A 5 star future stud QB dealing xanax pills in high school? Sure let’s bring him on and hope he changes his ways. A middling TE that’s contributed nothing to the team in 3 seasons like Leatio? Yeah that guy should have never been allowed on campus. There’s plenty of other average football players who made better choices in high school deserving of that scholarship. Sorry it’s just how the world works.

So Urban’s the 5 star future stud QB, and Herman’s the middling TE?

Maybe the best way for the UT administration to repay the people of Texas for the extreme financial largess given UT Austin is to find a solution to the "student-athlete" conundrum other than to insist the only way is to become an ethical scumbag.

Because far more student athletes at UT will be part of the Texas economy than "get to the next level."

UT evidently produces more than enough people who have questionable ethics.

Maybe we can use it as a recruiting advantage to explain to parents their kids will be taught more than to sacrifice their ethics for such life changing experiences as beating TCU and OU in football.

Winning scares people. Winning consistently and building a top 5 National Program scares people to death.
They would have to admit then, that it is a business. That the goal is to develop athletes who can succeed in the NFL. To have a pipeline of said recruits so that we are always in the CFP discussion each year.  And the kids who want to get drafted will go to college programs that are winning—elite programs. If you want to be an elite program you have to win. You don’t become elite by continually hiring people who aren’t proven winners and don’t have a national coaching search. Either we decide we want to elite and win or we have a program where winning the conference happens once every twenty years and we are super excited about it (if we all still give a fuck by that point). Or we win one say, this year with no shot at the CFP. That will “move the sticks” with future recruits.

Do you want all the players and coaches to be knighted with a sword as well?

Ohio state and ousucks and Alabama and clemson do the same thing {sarcasm} Don't be so naive. A 5 star kid doesn't give a shit about life changing experiences. He wants to play on Sunday and make 2 million dollars a game.

Again, Leitao wasn’t some kid out of the hood dealing to survive. He comes from a 2 parent household, and his dad had been and still is making over $1 million a year as a D1 head basketball coach. He wanted to play thug by selling xans and was stupid enough got caught, at school of all places. And on top of all that he’s not even a good football player. He just doesn’t belong here.

All of y’alls shithead kids are selling their ADD meds at school. Criticize Leitao for being a shitty football player.

I’m pretty sure my kids aren’t selling ADD meds on campus. And some us said back then going scumbag wasn’t worth it.

Sometimes, no matter how much you insist going scumbag is the only way to beat TCU or OU, it isn’t worth the cost.

Hence, the reason some of us are (yet again) saying going scumbag by hiring Urban Meyer isn’t worth it.

Im just trying to get the scumbag contingent to explain how much of a scumbag program that doesn’t win is enough.

Herman went scumbag and didn’t win enough against TCU or OU. When is enough for the scumbags to admit going scumbag isn’t a guarantee of success or isn’t worth it?

Scumbag has officially lost all meaning for me. But I’ll take a crack at it bud. Enough scumbag scumbaggery is hiring just one more scumbag by the scumbag name of one Urban scumbag Meyer to wing a lot of scumbag titles. lol

So Texas plays football to produce blue collar workers for the state economy? Is that where we're at in this thread now?

To me, this is the height of why sportswriters are the dumbest people in the world paid to write. A coach is in an impossible position when he is either a candidate for a new job or on the hot seat in his present job. There are no good answers.

So you have sportwriters repeating the same impossible questions "Coach are you considering going?/Coach do you think you'll hold onto your job?" From mortifying lack of imagination and self-congratulation for asking the tough question (the same tough question every other moron congratulates himself for asking), they act out the same sad charade every season.

"Coach X is being dishonest when he says he isn't thinking of taking a job while coaching this season."  "Coach seems disturbed about his jeopardy even though he says he's not."

Half the fanhood plays right along.

The vast majority of sports pundits love what they do because it's unvarying; any idiot can do it.

All of this. Additionally, most sportswriters know less about what they cover than the average avid fan does. Fucking irritating as fuck.

KState is 12/5, CCG (it could hapen - as of this date) is 12/12 (assumption). NLI signing is 12/16-18. Cutting it close, but I reckon if #MensaTom becomes #JoblessTom before 12/16 there will likely be some meaningful flipping and/or GradXferring and/or PortalingIn.It would be a lovely Xmas - for some of us.

Heard there was some thought of moving early signing day back.  But seems like that would be announced by now if it was a fact.

Mensa wanted, many of us said "Hell No" and the "scumbag contingent of UT athletics" said otherwise. You got your way.

The ethical contingent got shouted down for the rape enabler and the drug dealer. You have had your say. You haven't delivered. Time to go another direction and that isn't deeper into an ethical sewer we should have never started down to begin with.

No, you don't get my point.

Let me help you.

My point is we followed you when "you people" insisted we needed to look the other way and allow a rape enabler and drug felon on campus. The "scumbag program" contingent got what you asked for. Now, you are claiming you need far more scumbag latitude.

NO.

Why should we continue to follow you down an ethical sewer when your scumbag philosophy has proven to be a failure?

We gave in to the scumbags, the scumbag philosophy proved incapable of the "Holy Grail" of being able to beat TCU and OU.

Even though you got your "needed" rape enabler and a drug felon.

Walk me through why the non-scumbag contingent needs to give in even more and drive UT athletics into something that even the faithful cant stand to be associated with, just to beat TCU and OU in football.

We gave the ethical scumbags what you wanted, you failed to deliver, and your only response is that Texas athletics isn't willing to go even deeper into an ethical sewer.

No.

So you think if you repeat the same post a jillion times you will win the argument?

Tom has the same agent as Mike McCarthy and Dan Le Batard. His camp knows how to spin shit for clients, so we need to sit back and see how this all plays out.

Tom is too busy tearing up floor tiles in the hallway to notice Urban taking measurements in the HC office for his shit.

Herman needs to spend less time making phone calls offering walk-ons a scholarship and spend more time on the phone offering scholarships to capable punters so we don’t have to use our FG kicker to pick up the slack.

When all is said and done, I will predict that we will discover that Herman was distracted but it wasn't from tearing up floor tiles.

"You people" want to have a pure scumbag program but you can't even handle the heckling and mocking from your own alumni. You aren't going to fare well when Baylor fans (rightfully) start relentlessly mocking the program for hiring a bigger piece of human shit than Art Briles as head coach. Or even the worst of the S!E!C! fans start (rightfully) laughing hysterically if even being pure scum can't get the program past TCU or OU.

If you want to drive the program into the depths of the sewer and just be a scumbag program, you have to learn to take the heat that comes with that decision.

Toughen up, kids, because if you get what you want, relentless mocking and ridicule from the alumni is just the start of a long, disgusting chapter of Ut athletics and the blame will be on those ho insisted there was no other way UT could ever possibly beat TCU or OU in football expect to be scumbags.

TCU didn't have to become a scumbag program to kick the shit out of UT on a constant basis. They put their minds to the task, hired CDC to play the long game, and as you guys see it, completely broke UT athletics and left the Longhorn program with no option other than to go completely scumbag. How could TCU so outplay UT? If only UT could do something like hire CDC to play the long game and not have to go scumbag. I guess we have to bow to our Horned Frog intellectual overlords.

We get to mock you now for having such small-minded thinking. We get to mock you continuously because your wrong-headed thinking.

Anyone who embraces Urban Meyer, his ethics, or his lack of leadership deserves everything thrown their way. It's a package deal.Get used to how scumbags get treated. it's what you want, isn't it? Hiring Urban Meyer would be highly divisive and cause immense dissension among the alumni. Get used to the infighting and internal disputes. It's what you want, isn't it? When you take Urban, all the baggage that comes with him.

Get used to being mocked relentlessly. There is a way to do this without the stench of Urban Meyer permeating the UT Austin campus. The rest of us shouldn't be limited by your inability to solve this problem the right way.

Welcome to the  fun that Urban Meyer will bring to UT football. You can't have one without the other. And if you can't take this level of heat from one of the alumni, you are way to delicate of a flower to handle the mountain of shit that will be dumped on the UT Austin campus when "your savior" arrives.

The first few gusts of odious stench from "Hurricane Urban" start wafting through campus and you are already having fits trying to handle it.

Good luck with the recruiting under "St. Urban the Innocent" when even the alumni are telling recruits to stay the Hell away from UT football. And kid who agrees to play for Urban should immediately be ridiculed as being a scumbag. Decent people see what Urban Meyer is about.

Not as easy being a scumbag program as you thought it was going to be, is it?

I think people are saying it would be easy to ignore with a playoff run or NC win.

Let's not sit here and pretend under mack that Texas was anything close to being a beacon of clean off the field players. The difference was social media and the UT handlers ability to sweep stuff under the rug quickly afterwards.

Not everyone had a high res livestream capable camera in their pocket ready to go on 3 seconds notice.

Wish I could ask Urban about wide receivers who can't catch.

I know he said never blame players- and i agree. but really why is it such an epidemic here? at what point does coaching and practice not produce results? when does Mike Leach's approach to just get better players factor in?

RD, I respect your Cato the Younger-like commitment to the importance of ethics above all else. But now that you’ve cursed our darkness, now please light a candle. Give us a name to replace Tom Herman that would meet your ethical standards and yet not condemn our fortunes on the field to another decade of mediocrity. Because speaking in the abstract just isn’t moving the needle. If you agree it’s time to get rid of Herman, and that Urban is a poison pill, we need a name to be that alternative you demand.
