Urban Meyer or bust

I got blasted on shaggy early in Herman's tenure for having this viewpoint, and again awhile back on Surly. The argument from those who blasted me was that our players were soft and entitled and needed the Herman military drill sargeant bs to toughen them up. I completely disagreed then and still do now. This isn't the 1970's. Players and the world are different, and treating people with respect and dignity is more effective.  Saban yells at his players, but his overall conduct and approach with players isn't runny eggs and drill sargeant bs. Crowder knows what's up.

Edit: additional comment after seeing Burton's comments.  Saban and Urban understand the difference between being demanding vs bullshit gimmicks.  Yelling at a player is very different from running the team like the military.  Herman is such a dumb shit he doesn't understand the difference. Then, Herman went the other way and tried to become a player's coach.  He's been all over the place in his style of dealing with the players.

Our BMD are not funding buyouts of Tom and his Merry band of dolts for Sark or Matt Campbell.  They are funding it to hire the guy that has bad motherfucker written on his wallet.  BMD tend to be a bit older and they don't have the time to wait around for a maybe if they want to enjoy another NC.  They need a winner and they'll pay for it.

They were old 4 years ago too. And 7 years ago.

Is coaching style code for “Can I pay players?” or code for “Would I get in trouble for telling Sterns and woke players to F off and hit the portal at a school like Texas?”

Hoping it’s the second one, wouldn’t mind the first one since that’s what other schools are doing

Wonder if our impenetrable systemic softness was revealed and Urban don't want that shit.

if that's a logical translation no amount of money can fix it without a complete hard reset and that takes 4 years to wash out the entire culture.  cum sees our opt-outs and doesn't want any part of a 10-year project.

thank you deloss, mack, patterson, strong and thermensa.   our demise is complete.

Burton:

According to a high-ranking official at The University of Texas, Urban Meyer is mulling a return to coaching.

Open issues that remain are his health and whether or not he is convinced that his hard-charging approach is “still relevant in the new era of player personal freedom.”

This report comes immediately following a trip returning from Columbus to Austin of a UT emissary less than 30 minutes ago.

Meyer’s health concerns have been mentioned previously. His approach has not.

Again, it remains a fluid situation, one where we could see twists and turns and misdirection until Tom Herman is dismissed.

I read that as Meyer is wondering if his approach will still work or if coming back would tarnish his legacy.

Just to save time the next time we need someone at Austin Executive, it is on the east frontage of SH 130,  about 1.5 mile north of 290.

looks like we could get somebody to climb one of the light towers at Weiss HS football field with binoculars and we would be in business

With the transfer portal and Urban’s ability to recruit, it wouldn’t be anywhere near a 10 year project. 2-3 will do.

Just talked to Nick Saban and he said if players can't handle the heat they don't belong in the kitchen of national championship caliber teams.  Seriously, if we are worried about this we've already lost.

It's a concern. Urban doesn't do "woke".

Nahlin has been saying recently (as of last Saturday) that if urban says no to Texas he isnt coaching again. Texas is offering everything so if he says no, he was never gonna coach.

Gerry Hamilton in an IT thread today says he thinks UM coaches again. He didn’t say Texas of course or if that means yes to Texas, no to Texas. So I think it’s misdirection. He’s coming but nobody’s saying anything until Herman is fired. Plus isn’t he on the fox pregame show on Saturday? I’m sure he doesn’t want all this leaked making it awkward AF, when the coach hasn’t been fired yet.

Pure speculation just my treefiddy though.

Urban isn't worried about his approach.  He IS worried about our school and our culture SUPPORTING his approach.

Unless his approach is really blatant cheating or going full Florida and just letting players go completely lawless (did not seem to be an issue at Ohio State) I don’t see an issue.

oi this is getting disturbing.  never thought of this angle.  austin/40 is woke central.   we need HARDNESS that's been missing for a decade.  will our "culture" allow it?

You won’t have as much fun anywhere else though. If you are ever in the Panhandle area you should hit up Blue Sky for the burgers. For my money, around this area it’s Storm’s. Jmo. No Mayo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No shit.  Urbs won't stay past 2027 anyway.  He gets to come here, win the big 12 multiple times, beat Alabama, Ohio State, and fuck up Michigan a couple of more times and win us 2 National Championships.  Make it so

How I think it went down/will play out...

-Eltife and company fly to Colombus on that flight we found

-They returned 30 minutes ago with a firm CUM handshake

-They give that report to Burton as misdirection since there isnt a job opening yet and dont want it to be viewed as a done deal

-They can Herman in the very near future

-CUM comes then we all cum

-TEXAS IS BACK

We do need to consider that maybe CUM isn't the right guy with his throwback, old school coaching style. Players have changed so much since he coached in the 1970s. Oh wait, he was at Ohio State less than two years ago. This was really brought up? Seriously? The health stuff... sure. That makes sense. But if he's even throwing out a second reason, then he's coming. If the health issue was a deal killer, he wouldn't even get to reason #2. Hell, he's probably secretly using this coaching style line of bullshit to motivate himself into taking the job, "I'll show them that I can still get it done with the way I do business..."

The plane that went Tyler --> COL --> ATX with timing that lines up with Burton's report now has a bunch of competing flights stacked up in its upcoming log (i.e., impossible that all/most of them happen), but one of the forks would take it from ATX --> Llano --> Dallas --> Raleigh/Durham by day's end. Eltife and crew going to kick the tires on Plan Z in Chapel Hill?

When Herman is fired and UM takes the job, I will drink a G2 and Tito’s and not pour an ounce out for the fraud that was Tom Herman.

That's some quality alkie drinking.  Hydrating and boozing simultaneously.

Anything Texas can do to beat SC to UM, I'm all for.  They're giving Helton the rest of the season. Then they may be getting hot for UM.

I don;t think Burton would have heard shit if the deal was done.  It would be radio silence and then all of a sudden Herman would be shitcanned.

IF the deal with UM is done then I'd expect Herman to be out before Saturday

Theres no job opening so he wont say hes taking the job yet. This shit is going to happen, holy fuck!

Here's what Bobby didn't say:  Urban said no thanks.  So now, they're trying to workout the final details and figure out how to fire Herman.  They will not announce anything until the firing.

And we have a band that won’t even play it’s school song so, that doesn’t bode well.

His "approach" is not anything different then any Texas high school football coach. My OL coach was a sadist, but we kicked the shit out of people. Only thing he has to say is......do you want to go to NFL and make a crap load of money and bang hookers? Then run 47 laps and shut up. Done deal.
