Loss of the draft picks is likely the the worst part of this:

Such an overreaction statement for the moment. Catastrophic? LOL. Trades can easily fill in the gaps and we have a shit ton of tradeable guys that would get the best there is to offer in replenishing your farm system.

I actually expected the fine to be way higher. I dont really think this is a huge issue we are still gonna beat ass this year.

Main problem as mentioned is the picks. Even more reason to lockdown Springer now cause our farm system is gonna be kind of worthless for big league talent

Correa became an even bigger trade chip today, because you are going to need him to recoup some of the lost capital from the draft. Also, Astros need to go sign the Cuban Ohtani.

Perhaps, but the Astros have made a habit of drafting guys early in the draft and signing them for below-slot and using the savings to select guys later in the draft who they offer above-slot bonuses. The loss of the slot values for these picks will affect that strategy. So the ramifications go further than simply losing four picks.

If you don't think this could have been the difference in a series that went 7 games, you're deluding yourself.

If you don't think Dave Roberts would have found a way to fuck it up anyway, you're deluding yourself.

You know what should enrage the dodgers?

Indeed.  But the way he got roped in game 7, it was almost like Astros hitters knew what was coming.

I've mentioned it before, but Luhnow was in the class ahead of me in HS.  Nice enough guy.  Pretty vanilla.  But fuck him.

I'm just not into over the top statements like "catastrophic" over 4 picks. Catastrophic is never drafting again. Say this will sting a little then ok but far from catastrophic.

Without 1st and 2nd round picks you’re fucked.  These are the players in Houston’s roster that were either drafted in the first 2 rounds or acquired by trading a player who was drafted  in the first 2 rounds:

Correa

Bregman

Tucker

Springer

Verlander (Cameron)

Greinke (Beer)

McCullers

Biagini (Fisher)

Osuna (Giles>Appel/Velasquez)

The Astros are now completely fucked from 2022 until at least 2025.

Spend more internationally and in free agency. Losing 4 players who aren't guaranteed to pan out is not going to cost the team half a decade...these arent #1 overall guys we are talking about, these are late first and second round picks. It hurts but its not some death sentence. If the team needs to rebuild and strengthen the farm there are plenty of ways to do so

The astros are loaded and have the infrastructure to withstand two years of 1st and 2nd round picks they get to keep the other rounds as well and can still make trades to replenish since we all know now that Crane isn't going to go deep into the tax so we aren't keeping all these guys around.

Stop with the fucking dramatics. We aren't fucked, it sucks and will hurt but we are far from being "fucked".

No, it's not.  Fuck the Astros.  Cheated to win the WS.  That's what's bullshit.  If you don't think this could have been the difference in a series that went 7 games, you're deluding yourself.

Dodger tears are almost as tasty as Yankee tears. Take it to the MLB offseason thread.

This part is bullshit.  The Astros being mean to other teams and the media should have no effect on the punishment but it indubitably did.

It shows a culture that is ok with cheating. You are right though, it had an effect on the punishment.

Passan was beating off when he wrote "absolutely skewered".

So if MLB doesn’t like your “culture”, your GM gets suspended for a year? Not sure what they proved Luhnow did or knew about to warrant a full year suspension and whatever portion of the lost picks and $5 mil that is attributable to his portion.

Plus, the international stuff was not touched at all.  I'd rather have all my draft picks taken away than have international signings limited.

We cheated and we got caught. Totally sucks but I can't fault MLB for doing what they did. As many have said, the draft picks is the biggest hit. Farm system will take a huge hit.
