Sounds like Texas fans are as confident as we are about this game.  Could see it going any direction.  I feel like the first quarter will tell the story of this game.  If K-State can establish the run early, we'll have a chance.  If Texas gets some stops early and turns it into points, we're likely in big trouble.

Don’t worry about early. If Texas is making one on one tackles early to stifle the run game, it’s simply a matter of reps before the chunk yardage comes.  Our run D is a paper tiger.

It's hard to say, if the K-State team that has played the last 2 weeks shows up, we'll be tough to stop.  If you didn't see the OU game, the box score made it look closer than it was.  We def let our foot of the gas and ran clock in the fourth and it almost came back to bite us.  If the K-State team shows up that did on our last road game (don't count Lawrence as a road game) in Stillwater, you guys will wonder why you thought this game would ever be close.

K-State has only beaten Texas and Oklahoma in the same year three times in their history.

Also Big 12 teams compared to Austin BBQ spots.

Disagree.

Kansas: Shit. Always shit.
Bert's: Shit. Always shit.

Texas Tech: Garbage. Fans are annoying and oblivious.
Bill Miller's: Garbage. Fans are annoying and oblivious.

West Virginia: Far away next to farms where people make their own alcohol. Not very good.
Salt Lick: Far away next to farms where people make their own alcohol. Not very good.

TCU: Got kind of good for a while. Not so much lately.
Stiles Switch: Got kind of good for a while. Not so much lately.

Oklahoma State: Financially buoyed by rich, former guy. In Stillwater--named after still water. If you have to partake, do it for the mullet.
County Line: Financially buoyed by rich locals. Next to some still water. If you have to partake, all-you-can-eat beef ribs.

Iowa State: Year after year, nobody really knows until the end-of-season "meh"...but please beat Iowa.
Green Mesquite: Year after year, a hard "meh"...but please be open when I can't find parking at Terry Black's.

Kansas State: People might not know it yet, but solid.
Valentina's: People might not know about it yet, but solid.

Texas: Fuck you, I still enjoy it and will tune in once a week.
Cooper's: Fuck you, I still enjoy it and will eat lunch there once a week.

Oklahoma: Fuck Oklahoma.
That place on 35 south somewhere around Oltorf attached to a hotel: I assume fuck them. It's attached to a shitty hotel.

Baylor: Got decent, did terrible things, should have received the death penalty. Looking for comeback.
Mueller's: Got decent, did bad things, and got shut down by the comptroller. Looking for comeback.

Haven't tried Studdard's trailer, and I'm not proud of that.

Score Predictions... Horns247 Staff
Bobby Burton, Publisher
Vegas has to know something, right? Or maybe they’re just counting on dumb money to push the Texas number up to favorites. The Horns have done very little right in the past three games. In two of those games, the offense has been a no show. In three of the games, the defense just couldn’t get many stops in the second half. It’s a recipe for disaster. Maybe getting a couple of starters back on defense will be a big difference but I don’t see how it will matter that much. K-State is playing a solid brand of ball, executing well and winning football games...  K-State 27, Texas 20

Fuck Chip Brown, Columnist

There'd be no better time than right now for Texas to put it together with what Tom Herman and his players have called an "against-the-ropes" mentality.  K-State is dead last in the Big 12 in passing offense, so a Texas defense getting some players back from injury that showed it could stop the run earlier in the season might not give up back-breaking third-and-longs through the air (like UT did against TCU) and just might get back on track.

My biggest questions have been my biggest concerns since the OU game: Will the Texas offense get back to being physical on the offensive line and running the ball?  Will Herman do a better job of making adjustments to put Sam Ehlinger in position to make plays and stop pressing?  And will the offense and special teams stop making critical mistakes late in games that put victory in jeopardy?  I've gone back and forth on this one, because K-State is red-hot after beating TCU, OU and Kansas. Because I haven't seen a complete game from Texas yet this year...   K-State 28, Texas 27

Jeff Howe, Senior Writer:

With this game looking as even as could be on paper, it comes down to two things for me, both from a philosophical/schematic standpoint.  For Texas, it’s a matter of whether the Longhorns can maximize drives and be efficient in the red zone. Kansas State allows opponents to run an average of 56.9 plays per game, which means the Longhorns should run far fewer than the 77.4 plays per game the offense is averaging.

The red zone is where Texas likely lost both the LSU (21 points on five possessions) and TCU (20 points on five possessions) games.  It’s always dicey to boil success or failure down to one thing, but if one wanted to do so it’s easy to point to being forced to settle for field goals or coming away with no points after either moving the football or getting set up with great field position as the culprit.

As far as K-State is concerned, the Wildcats don’t mind taking the air out of the ball (361 rushing attempts ranks second in the Big 12, No. 13 in the Power Five and No. 30 in the FBS) and using the clock to their advantage (35:09 per game time of possession is No. 3 in the country).

With that said, everyone has thrown the ball on the Longhorns, so will Chris Klieman and Co. allow Skylar Thompson to take advantage of a pass defense that ranks among the worst in the country in passing yards per game allowed (305.4, No. 127), yards per pass attempt allowed (8.23, No. 113), yards per pass completion allowed (12.86, No. 97).

The key to Texas defending the deep ball and being efficient on offense is two-fold.  The open date on the schedule last week and the return of some key pieces on both sides of the ball (Jordan Whittington on offense, B.J. Foster and Caden Sterns on defense) should have given Tom Herman and Co. a prime opportunity to make the adjustments necessary to cleaning things up (as much as can be expected) for the stretch run.

I don’t feel good about picking the Longhorns to win, but with playing at home, coming off of a bye week and knowing a loss would mean potentially staring a 6-6 finish to the season in the face, my pick has as much to do with not wanting to deal with the fallout of a loss as much as it does having confidence in the coaches to put the players in the best positions to make winning plays...  Texas 31, Kansas State 30

Taylor Estes, Managing Editor

There is no doubt that Texas desperately needs to win this game, but the Longhorns couldn’t be facing Kansas State at a worse time for that to happen. The Wildcats have been red-hot as of late, and have not shown any signs of slowing down. It’s quite impressive to witness what Chris Klieman has been able to accomplish in Year 1 on the job, especially considering the fact that the Wildcats did not make it to a bowl game last season.   It’s rare to see a brand new FBS head coach, without any prior experience with the program he has taken over, come into a role and succeed in Year 1, but that is what you are witnessing in Manhattan, Kan. Prior to the season, I picked Texas to win this game, but little did I know at the time was how well Klieman would have his program rolling in his first season on the job, and how much Texas would be struggling offensively down the stretch of the season.

I have given Texas the benefit of the doubt in two games I thought the Longhorns would lose ahead to the season, yet still picked them to win on game week (LSU and Oklahoma).  Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.  At this point, the Longhorns do not really deserve any benefit of the doubt until they can prove to stop making poor mistakes that will cost them ballgames...   Kansas State 35, Texas 28

Mike Roach, Recruiting Analyst

Kansas State looks like a fairly dangerous team with a running quarterback that could give the Texas defense fits. The Longhorns really need a turnaround game, and they will be back at home for this one. There’s nothing that would cause me to have faith in Texas based on the way they’ve played other than the bodies they are getting back and the fact the team really needs the win... Texas 30, Kansas State 28

Clint Buckley, Recruiting Reporter

Yes, a few defensive starters return but K-State's offense is rolling right now. Texas will need to have sustained drives on offense to keep its D off the field as much as possible. I think Keaontay Ingram, Roschon Johnson and Jordan Whittington do enough on the ground to make it happen...  Texas 41, Kansas State 38

There are people who swear the best barbecue in central Texas resides in Lockhart. Those people are wrong, kind of like the folks in Lubbock who ran off Mike Leach.

Blacks is the best que you can walk in to and not have to wait for anywhere in the state.

Your QB, best rusher, and best receiver.

Pick 2.  They will have the games of their lives.  Literally a 200% markup over the best performance of their careers to date.

They will look ALL WORLD tomorrow.

I saw the game with neutral eyes and I didn't see your win over OU the same way you saw it. They screwed up over and over again and left KSU in the game to which it bit them in the butt like a big dog. Yes there were lots of good plays by KSU but there were equally pitiful plays by OU. KSU cashed in on OU mistakes. Even at the end of the 4th on the on sides kick KSU got the break although that was a bad call by the booth ref. What did he see on replay that the field refs missed? The OU player that the ball touched was blocked into the ball by a KSU player, plus the OU wasn't going for the ball. The on field refs made the right call. Unless the review was compelling enough to overturn it then it continues to stand as called on the field. Doesn't matter though. Game over. Kstate is well coached and that's the team's strength, not their offense or defense.

The call was reviewed by B12 the following week and confirmed to be correctly overturned by the booth ref... And video below agrees it was the right call by the booth.

That is Mike P's opinion but look closely and see the KSU push the OU player in the back and into the oncoming ball. Did the OU player initiate the block? NO. He was pushed in the back so how is that initiating anything? Had that happened at DKR it would have been Horns ball. Had it happened at OU it would have been OU ball. Had it happened at Kstate...well yeah it did and yeah it was Kstate ball.

The contact has to push you into the ball.  The ball hitting you while being blocked is not the same as being blocked into the ball:

Quote

Approved ruling 2-11-4

A punt is rolling along the ground near players A44 and B27 who are engaged. (a) The ball bounces against the leg of B27 and is then recovered by A55 at the B-35.

RULING: (a) Team A’s ball, first and 10 at the B-35. The ball rolled into B27’s leg but A44’s contact did not cause him to touch the ball. Not forced touching.

The Ou player was trying to knock the Kstate guy out of the way.

That was the right call to overturn as further explained by JBJ.  The only thing that would have been better than OU losing from a correctly overturned call would have been seeing OU lose on an incorrectly overturned call.

Fuck OU.

The OU guy couldn't have been going for the ball because the KSU guy was shoving him into the path the ball traveled. I saw the play and haves seen the replay half a dozen times. In fact it looked like the OU guy was actually trying to hold back on the ball to allow it to travel the necessary yardage but when being shoved in the back (a foul?) he was pushed into it's path. He wouldn't have touched it had it not have been for getting pushed into it.

Trying to be open minded and neutral towards both teams and the fact I don't have a bone in that game and after watching the reply until it almost blinded me there is no proof that the ball hit the OU player. Yes the ball hit someone and it appeared to be the OU player it hit but no way can the booth know for sure. OJ was innocent because they couldn't show proof he was guilty. The same applies here. It is very obvious the OU player was trying to keep clear of the ball but was pushed into it's path. The booth didn't look at it as a block in the back by the kicking team which in turn caused contact with the ball by and OU player before the ball traveled a full 10 yards. That's not how you and a few others here want to see it but that's what the film shows us.

Exactly! That's what I've been saying but not coming out well enough for others to understand. The OU guy was trying to hold position (holding off the KSU player on his backside) but got pushed into the path of the ball. Had that not happened the ball most likely would have continued on in it's original path. No way of knowing which team would have covered it.
