How do programs figure out which transfers are good or not? I would have thought Vaughns could do better than Utah St but obviously the better schools figured out he wasn’t that good.

Depends on the program I think. G5 such as Utah St are probably willing to take a flyer on someone who has more athleticism coming from a P5 program.

Typically, good P5 players either stay at they're current school or go pro, so for high P5 programs, they're picking from different pools of players:

- Tier 1 (unicorn): High upside and production at present P5 school (Theo Howard, UCLA --> OU; Chris Murray, UCLA --> OU)

- Tier 2: High upside players disgruntled with their present P5 scene (Tarik Black, Mich --> UT; Kyler Murray, A&M --> OU)

- Tier 3: Production at lower level predictive of production at P5 (Jalen Saunders, Fresno St --> OU)

- Tier 4: Mediocre production at P5 but fills immediate need (RJ Proctor, UVa --> OU)

Unless Jake has a side piece seems to me he is missing out on his prime college stud days with so many pretty options running around in Austin.

Now that Bammmer QB from a couple years ago who put a ring on a reigning state beauty queen-- he did well for himself.

In addition, we've now seen Mordecai play. He isn't terrible, but he's not going to lead OU to conference or national titles.

As I said when Mordecai committed to OU (which surprised me), the dude is an above average QB, but he doesn't excel at anything. I watched him play in HS for 4 years. He was much better than his peers as a freshman, but he couldn't dominate in any facet of the game, and he isn't big or fast. He always seemed destined to be a backup or to be a good QB at a lower level. Reminds me a bit of Shane Buechele.

At least he'll continue the Midway to SMU pipeline, I guess.
