greg kelley's guilty verdict overturned

Wait, so McCarty was never investigated and charged?
Nope. The more I think about it the more it seems that the owner of the daycare (Shama McCarty) directed the Kelleys to hire Patricia Cummings as Greg's defense attorney because she had defended at least one of the McCarty sons (the documentary shows that 3 of them had criminal records) to ensure that Johnathan wouldn't be investigated. In Greg's trial Cummings never once introduced the possibility of another male suspect living in the house. Johnathan was already going off the track and -oh yeah- IDENTIFIED by name by the 2nd victim during the interview with shitstain detective Daniels.

The young girl they are interviewing for the doc are the type that fuck up jury rooms. “I think he’s guilty because of his emotional reaction to being accused”.....well guess what, that’s not evidence of guilt.

Another scary thing is jurors don’t like being there and it sure sounded like some people in that room gave in to go home. A young kids life is on the line basically but people can’t be put out for one more night? There are certainly bullies/organizers in those rooms. Takes some courage to stand your ground but that’s your job. What a nightmare scenario to be in.

Yeah, the young lady who was a sexual assault victim and advocate would not budge from her stance that Greg was guilty. No evidence would convince her that the children were not assaulted by someone other than Kelley.

I missed it, but was she a juror or a classmate of GK? Chick with no lips and big teeth.

I think she was a classmate of GK.  If she was a juror with a history of sexual abuse, she would have been struck by the defense counsel.

She’s a local who says she was a victim of abuse and the documentary billed her as a “Victim’s Rights Advocate”.

Not being from Texas, I had never heard of this case until reading about it here after it was all over.

Absolutely rage inducing.

If I were ever to find myself in legal trouble, give me Keith Hampton.

And what a joke that Patricia Cummings is now in charge of The Conviction Integrity Unit for the city of Philadelphia.

The fact that Greg Kelley seems to be a well adjusted dude is a testament to his character and his parents.

I’d be a vengeful ball of hate and bitter rage.

What I keep wondering - how bad was his original counsel?? The two most basic ideas to vindicate someone it seems would be determining where they are during the crime and a visual ID. Did it say why they didn’t pull his cell phone records the first time?

^^^^^ Agree 100%.  I have always thought he was extremely composed and of tremendous character and strength. Dude's going to be a leader.

I know he's trying to walk on to the Longhorns this season. If Herman can't find a ST spot for him he's out of his mind. Nate Boyer should be teaching him how to be a long snapper as we speak.

And for those who are questioning how incompetent his defense was, just wait until the final episode. I don't know if my wife was more livid about the words that came out of her mouth or the outfit she wore in court.

But he still has the cocky "fuck you Im the police chief and cops cant do any wrong" attitude in the interviews so far.

Would of loved to have been there to laugh in his face when the worm turned he could no longer bully his way through with that attitude and lies.

Watched the first 3 episodes tongiht.

Patricia Cummings, Wilco DA's office and CP police can eat a bag of dicks.

So refreshing to see the new DA actually out for justice, not just convictions.

The answer to "What's the purpose of police investigations?" made me sick. Got the wrong guy? Don't give a fuck, just here to convict someone. Fuck you you fat piece of shit.

this is exactly that shit that we keep talking about with bad cops.  they keep being allowed to be rehired elsewhere.  letting your fucking detectives frame a kid and you acting all high and mighty the whole time is  a bad look.   and clearly the citizens of CP had enough of your shit and politely asked you to leave.  and like a bad penny 4 months later, you turn up somewhere else.

How the fuck can Burnet not have known this would be a shitshow hiring him?

He’s exactly the type of police chief Burnet was looking for.

So i binged watched this and found it incredibly well done.  A comment and a question:

- I’m guessing the reason the shitty detective still has his job is because of a police union, which also makes me think that’s the reason the bad apples bounce from place to place.

ques - I’m generally curious why the Brydon dude took such a big interest.  Was he footing legal bills and whatnot?  Just didn’t really understand what his motive is/was if any(other than Kelley getting exonerated)

That's my biggest question on the show. Struck me as pretty weird and creepy.

Second biggest question was wtf was the ranger doing.

Being at the release with a shit eating grin, lying about the AFF, and saying "he watched porn therefore he is a child molester and did it" just don't make any sense after his answers at the writ hearing. After the answers I thought he was a good guy out for the truth, and he ends up being another dick head cop with some motive we'll never find out about.

After episode 3 I thought there's no way I could think Cummings was a bigger cunt. Boy was I wrong.

Does she work for Chody now?

Not even sure what that means, but...

She was featured on TV as fighting to get her job back. It was never reported how that turned out. Badly, I assume because she opened a bakery that lasted about a year and then...oblivion.

Makes me smile to think of her misery.

Chody, current Wilco sheriff who is on the hot seat - vote of no confidence from the county commissioners, andis supposedly hated by much of the department. Not to mention the Karens are upset he didn’t fire one of his commanders after the guy suggested in a meeting that one of the deputies should have sex with a female tv producer.

My ex-wife was a Cedar Park cop for years and, (unsurprisingly) somehow got railroaded out of her job a few years ago.

It’s probably her fault. She has a supreme gift for fucking shit up and alienating everyone around her.

Initials KM? If so, I know exactly who you're talking about. She kept dodging a subpoena from me a few years back while she was on leave.

CPPD is a festering cesspool of dishonesty and incompetence. One of their officers (an Aggy) was hired after getting the boot during the hiring process of two other agencies -- first he lied to DPS about his prior drug use, then he lied to another agency about losing his offer at DPS for lying about his drug use. TAMUPD hired him, then he jumped to CPPD. I got a couple cases of his dumped upon asking in WillCo just because he was so obviously full of it in his OR.

Their rank-and-file has an inflated sense of importance, where they think they are a big-city police department that is capable of handling big-city issues. As we saw in this case, they are not.

That aside, I will say that, having been a fly on the wall in WillCo while all of this was shaking down, everything about it was just strange.

Watched the first episode last night.  One thing that I simply don't understand is why that gym owner was brought in to testify.  As far as I could tell, it had absolutely nothing to do with the case.  Even if Kelley did say that he had been in the Marines, what difference does it make on that particular case?  That was bizarre.

Yeah, I think a competent lawyer or one who had the best interest of their client would have fought that as irrelevant.

My guess is that the defense offered some evidence bolstering Kelley's truthfulness.  That is about the only way character evidence against the accused is admissible in a criminal trial.

So what's Cedar Park's play in the lawsuit that Kelley has filed against Daniels/Mannix/CP? This documentary is damning enough so I can't imagine the city's attorneys want this to go to court. $5 million dollar settlement?  Michael Morton got $1.9 million plus a $12,000/mo annuity for his wrongful conviction for murdering his wife. He spent almost 25 years in jail.

Interestingly enough, Morton thinks DA Shawn Dick is pretty much as bad as the rest of the Wilco DAs, and he sings the praises of Cummings for working to overrun his conviction.

Morton on Outcry

Quote

Morton said he disagrees with the documentary’s portrayal of the prosecutors — Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick and First Assistant DA Lindsey Roberts — as reform-minded.

“The film never mentions that they played key roles in seeking to obstruct an inquiry into the prosecutorial misconduct that caused my wrongful conviction and — in Mr. Roberts’ case — fought to keep me in prison even after DNA identified my wife’s real killer,”

Chompers has lots of issues as a result of her assault. Playing armchair psychotherapist here, but I sense she hates Kelley & refuses to believe him due to the fact that strangers believed & defended him whereas she likely didn't have that outpouring of support & belief in her as a victim.

There's another female assault victim interviewed in the final episode that represents a very different perspective.

Based on what I saw, on TV, you wouldn't want them.  When we divorced, it was still Polaroids and VHS.  Haven't actually seen her in 25 years.

And his attorney (Patricia Cummings) represented his brothers in other cases . Im not saying they're related, but every time it was brought up that "hey, Johnathan looks like a smaller version of Greg" Cummings responded with "we're not going there."

But detective Daniels conducted one of the laziest investigations all time.

I know Patricia Cummings and have talked to Michael Morton at length about his case. I used to be impressed by both of them. Patricia's conduct in Greg's defense is unforgivable. I can't even wrap my head around it. Since his release, Morton has some of the dumbest takes on politics, government, the justice system, etc. that I've ever read. There are quite a few criminal defense attorneys that think poorly of him.

Well, what the fuck ever. She’s losing empathy from me by being stubborn.

Hey, I'm giving her a huge helping of benefit of the doubt. I'm very familiar with the impact of sexual assault. I found her contributions to the doc very ragey, but she also showcased how people can hold on to their personal bias in spite of the facts. I bet many of the jurors that convicted Kelley shared similar beliefs.

So watching porn and hooking up online makes you a pedophile? Most of the posters on this site are fucked.
The real question is if you ever tried to watch scrambled porn on cable in the 80s. If you stroked it to squiggly lines thinking you saw some t&a you're obviously a sex offender.
