Damn - that’s savage.  They didn’t just relieve him of his duties...they put him in a skillet of hot grease and burned that sucker to a crisp!

Crispy bacon.

You can’t lose to UNT, SJSU, and WKU  in 15 months at home and survive

Western Kentucky lost to Central Arkansas at home...imagine not even being the best team in Arkansas

i remember questioning the hire when morris' record at SMU was mediocre at best. posters on here corrected me that morris was a great coach and that it was a great hire. he was going to make aggy his bitch.

I'm shocked at this news.

Many Baylor fans wanted us to hire Morris a couple years ago. Thank god we didn't

Didn't you already have a coach named Morriss?  Didn't work out too well, IIRC.

Why the fuck would Gundy want to have anything to do with that dumpster fire?  Arkansas will never be anything more than a 3rd rate team.  Knute Rockne himself couldn't resurrect that program.  And yes, there's a better chance of Rockne rising from his grave.

Well what about the kids who have an offer while still in elementary school?  Will the next coach honor that like a good christian would?  Catalon is watching

Indeed. He was a good dude, and by randomness I knew the family well. Good people. Looked like he was turning it around one year (5 wins and 2 overtime losses against Aggy and OU), but then it fell apart.

Minnesota is a 9-0 powerhouse this year. Oregon State is not completely embarrassing. Northwestern's been solid under Fitzgerald apart from this year. A good coach can at least make a mediocre program respectable.

Fleck will leave MN and soon.  Oregon State has reverted to their former PAC 12 cellar dweller days.  NW is thrilled to go 6-6 with an occasional 8-4.  Fitzgerald seems like the kind of coach who is perfectly happy with coaching at his alma mater and becoming a legend.   There's not thing wrong with that.

Still better than Beck.  I'd take him in a heartbeat.  He had Clemson averaging 50pts a game.

Yeah, and Clemson has really fallen off since he left. Just like SMU and Lake Travis.

these guaranteed contracts are highway robbery.  Need to scheme around that with parachute clauses.

do you want an even shittier coach?  cause that's how's how you get a shittier coach.

Or that's how you get a confident coach who isn't worried about being fired before the contract expires.

you're not going to hire a bigger name coach without guarantees. no agent worth his pay is going to convince his golden parachute club coach client to agree to a job which doesn't have guarantees.

but yes, if you want to take a chance on an up and coming guy, then he would prob take the job without guarantees.

Their AD revenues are over $40m per year more than Oklahoma State's. They made the Sugar Bowl in 2010 and finished ranked #5 in 2011. It's certainly not an elite program where you can compete for national titles year in and year out but it's not a worse program than Oklahoma State, which is really only a decent program because of Mike Gundy (7 of the 14 times they've finished a season ranked were under Gundy).

were you one of the false prophets? and i didn't know if he was a good hire or not, i just posed the question based on his mediocre smu record. the smarter posters assured me that he was a great hire.

He signed an extension a few days ago where he's now making $4.6m per year and he has to pay Minnesota a $10 million buyout if he leaves in the next 14 months.

i hope leach would go to arkie. if nothing more than the lulz that he would bring. he wouldn't fall in line with the sec one for all, all for one mentality. he would rock the boat and call BS when he sees it. plus i'd like to see what his offense could do against sec sec sec defenses every week.

It depends, that is not an insurmountable amount for programs with cash.  Seems like he has a system/ approach that so far has produced results in 2 different environments, people are going to want to take a chance.
