2020 NFL DRAFT

Denzel Mims has made himself a ton of money since the season ended. He killed it at the Senior Bowl and then put up huge numbers at the combine. He’s got a really good shot at going in the first round now.

New England Patriots awarded four compensatory draft picks, leading NFL

Mar 10, 2020  Mike Reiss ESPN Staff Writer

The New England Patriots were awarded a league-high four compensatory draft picks, the NFL announced Tuesday.  The Patriots add two third-rounders and two sixth-rounders to their overall haul of 12 picks. It helps them partially fill a void of not having a second-round pick -- a selection they traded to the Atlanta Falcons for receiver Mohamed Sanu in October.  A team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory picks.  The Patriots' selections (Nos. 98, 100, 212, 213) were a result of losing defensive end Trey Flowers, offensive tackle Trent Brown, defensive tackle Malcom Brown and receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.

New England was one of 15 teams to be awarded compensatory picks. The Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks all received three picks.

The Texans received the highest overall pick, a third-rounder (No. 97).  The Giants (99), Seahawks (101), Pittsburgh Steelers (102), Eagles (103), Los Angeles Rams (104), Vikings (105) and Baltimore Ravens (106) were the other clubs to receive third-round picks.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, Ravens, Seahawks, and Eagles (2) gained fourth-round picks.

The Broncos and Dallas Cowboys received the only fifth-rounders, while the Patriots and Seahawks had the only sixth-rounders

In the seventh round, the Giants (2), Texans (2), Vikings (2), Dolphins (2) and Broncos (2) landed picks.

Hopefully Jake Fromm has a great O-line in the NFL, cause With 5.05 40 he isn’t out running anyone.

I fully expect Jake Fromm to suck ass in the NFL while I also expect his former backup, Justin Fields, to be a Top 5 pick (probably #2) and have a long NFL career with several years as a starter.

Something about Fields makes me wonder if he will hold up physically in the NFL... kinda like Cam Newton and all of his injuries.

On some Cam news... maybe to the Raiders??

The number of flying headshots that I saw Cam receive (without a flag) in on game about 3 years ago was more than I’ve ever seen in a single season.

Actually adhering to the rules will extend the careers of mobile QBs.

Vamos a ver.

Kiper is basically just a caricature of his former self at this point. It’s wild how bad his analysis is these days.

Might be right B-Mack...

Kiper has CeeDee Lamb going to Dallas in the 1st Round in above Mock Draft 3.0.

The Dolphins are rumored to be working on swinging a deal with the Bungles to acquire the #1 pick. Would Burrow pull an Eli if he were drafted by the Bungles and refuse to play for them and demand a trade? The Dolphins certainly have the draft capital to offer pulling off the trade, they have three 1st rounders (#5, 18 & 26) and two 2nd rounders to offer in a package. That would be rather enticing to a 2-14 team with a lot of holes who could slide by another year with Dalton tanking for Lawrence in the 2021 draft. I wouldn't draft Tua at #5, not with his injury history. For a team that hasn't had a reliable QB since Dan Marino they can't afford to continue fucking up and rolling with an injury prone QB like Tua.

Most think Tua won't be available at the #5 pick anyway.  Would be crazy if Carolina could somehow end up with Burrow, but Panthers probably don't have enough to offer.

Burrows with Joe Brady in the NFL would be fun to watch...

2020 NFL Draft Prospect Rankings: Top 100 Big Board 2.0

Damn, this writer has some BULLSHIT TCU bias...

36. Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU (rSR, 5' 10", 191 pounds)

Gladney lacks ideal size and length at the position, but he plays with a more physical presence than his weight would suggest. Blending foot quickness, short-area agility and a feisty competitive toughness, Gladney has a nose for the ball that's led to 26 passes defended since 2018 and five interceptions over his three seasons as a starter.

41. Ross Blacklock, IDL, TCU (rJR, 6' 3", 290 pounds)

Often utilized in a two-gap role at TCU, Blacklock displays impressive burst and lateral agility to be a disruptive one-gap penetrator at the next level. His pass-rushing upside puts him in the mix as a potential first-rounder in April.

42. Jalen Reagor, WR, TCU (JR, 5' 11", 206 pounds)

Reagor’s 40-yard dash time (4.47) was worse than expected in Indy, but the junior receiver plays much faster than his timed runs at the combine and is a dynamic player in the open field. Last year’s production (43/611/5) dropped from his breakout sophomore campaign (72/1,061/9), but his quarterback situation was less than ideal.

Sources: NFL sets up tech safeguards for draft

8:37 AM CT.   Dan Graziano   ESPN Staff Writer

Anyone who has ever held a fantasy draft online knows you have to log on early to make sure it works. This year, the NFL will be doing more or less the same thing for its actual draft.

With teams forced to conduct the NFL draft from their homes due to the isolation guidelines brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, the league has been working to test internet connections and install safeguards to ensure that technological issues don't result in major problems such as missed picks or insufficient time to make trades.

League sources said there will be multiple tests of the system prior to the draft, which begins April 23, and that the NFL is planning to build in several safeguards to cover teams in the event that an internet connection cuts out or some other technological glitch affects a team's pick.

One safeguard will be a conference call with all 32 teams that will be in progress throughout the draft. Hypothetically, if a general manager is hooked up to that call via landline and his internet connection cuts out, he would be able to unmute the call and announce his pick in a forum in which every other team could hear it. Email is another option teams will have for sending in picks if there are online connection issues.

As of now, the NFL is not considering officially adding time for teams to make picks, nor is it likely that the league will take the suggestion of Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert to give teams additional picks. But sources said the league would be flexible in allowing teams that were working on trades to have enough time even if technological issues delay the process. If the league is aware that two teams are negotiating a trade, it would work with them to make sure enough time is allotted to complete the deal.

Ravens' John Harbaugh worried about NFL tech security

Apr 7, 2020.  Jamison Hensley ESPN Staff Writer

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh is worried that sensitive team information is more vulnerable to getting stolen because of the technology that NFL teams are relying upon to connect with players during the coronavirus pandemic.

At a time when teams are preparing to go virtual -- from playbooks to meetings -- Harbaugh has immediately texted the Ravens' information technology members when he's read about Zoom or other online resources getting hacked. He's been assured that everything is secure, but he reminds them about how other companies believed the same before their customers' accounts were compromised.

"It's a big concern," Harbaugh said during the Ravens' pre-draft news conference. "Hopefully we'll be OK. I really wouldn't want the opposing coaches to have our playbook or our draft meetings. That would be preferable, if we can stay away from that."

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta joked that Harbaugh is being too concerned about cracks in today's communication technology.  "I have more confidence in Zoom than I do in Ozzie [Newsome, executive vice president], John, Steve [Bisciotti, owner] and Dick [Cass, team president], with a copy of our draft board that they just leave in the car on their front seat or something like that," DeCosta said.

The Ravens have looked into having their team meetings as well as strength and conditioning sessions handled virtually because NFL facilities are closed indefinitely. This is usually the time of year when teams begin their offseason conditioning program.  "They know if they don't train and they come back out of shape, it's not going to be much fun for them in training camp," Harbaugh said. "Nothing could be more miserable than a Raven not being in shape in training camp. That's pretty much well-documented."

I'm curious to see how many players that attended the combine this year get drafted.  It used to be about an 80%+ chance that you would get drafted if you went to the Combine, however that number has been dipping in recent years with 117 of the 338 players at the combine last year not getting drafted, including LJH, Davante Davis, and Gary Johnson.

With all the uncertainty surrounding physicals, testing numbers, etc., I'd expect the percentage of combine participants drafted to be significantly higher this year, which should help someone like Roach, who was a fringe draft candidate that tested much better than expected at the Combine.

It'll also be interesting to see if the schools that were able to host a pro day see a bump in the number and range of their players drafted.  Of the P5 schools, I believe only Auburn, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Clemson actually held pro days this year.

Interesting Team Rankings prior to the NFL Draft...

"NFL Power Rankings: Chiefs No. 1, Where Do Tom Brady's New and Old Teams Land?"

With free agency now mostly behind us, let's check in on how all 32 teams stack up before the draft. We know the defending champs get to stay on top, but Tom Brady's future is still the most interesting question of the offseason.
