The DOJ determined Alex Acosta "exercised poor judgement" by interfering with and sweetening Jeffrey Epstein's plea deal. There will be no consequences for Acosta but Bill Barr promises to leave him a snarky Yelp review.

Attorney General William Barr is considering leaving his post before January 20, the day President Donald Trump leaves office, a source with knowledge of the matter confirmed to CNN.

The source confirmed that Barr is not happy with Trump, writing that Barr "is not someone who takes bullying and turns the other cheek!"

"He has not made a final decision," the source said.

So the dude who's appointment runs out in a month is going to quit before he gets fired?  Who gives a shit.

What's scary is it could get a lot worse than Barr, even he has boundaries. They could bring a guy who is one part dumb one part corrupt in Matthew Whitaker for the last 30 days to literally do Trump's bidding, Trump could point at people he wants arrested and held without bond type shit.

Not like Trump hasn't done this before, and provided it's someone suitably unfit, derelict, and loyalist to the President and not the Constitution, the remainder of the DOJ staff that haven't already either signed the Trump oath or were hanging on in some hope of being a counter balance will resign, leaving the DOJ in disarray. Embedding more whackjobs in during the inter-rim is very on brand for the Trump Org and whaddya gonna do about it?

The whole, "Biden will just fire everybody" is not going to happen to the embedded staffers. It just isn't. Even if Trump and Family die off or disappear, they will wait until the next GOP fascist arrives.

Exactly.  His gaze and jaw shifted markedly at those last two seconds.  I'm sure a committee seating chart is readily available.  Maybe as the Proud Boys?

random meme thought but how funny would it be for Gritty to host SNL and do a monologue about saving the election and then at the end it's unmasked and it's Michael Cohen under there.

Die Glocke.  aka "The Bell", Miller named the plan after the phantom super-weapon the Nazis were going to deploy on their enemies in the waining days of WWII to repel the three front invasion of the Fatherland.  In the end, it was reduced to a "National Redoubt" campaign, and even then it was mainly a few repels of the invading Soviets coupled with lots and lots of mass surrenders.  Trumpers, with today's EC Vote, are about to start seriously entertaining their "National Redoubt" strategies as they continue to get boxed in.

543 hours.  5-4-3.  That's how any hours remain until Congress counts the EC Votes on the Capitol Floor.  That's how long you Trumpers to have to take to the hills to wage your guerrilla war on Democracy.  Count it down, 5...4...3.  That's all the hours left.  Sure Inauguration Day won't be for another two weeks after that, but the system will lock you and Donald out in those interim two weeks.  Once Mike Pence has to publicly announce as President of the Senate that 306 votes have arrived and been certified for Joe Biden, nothing else can be done.  Nothing.  You think this charade the last 6 weeks was pointless, futility doesn't describe what any Trumper acting AG or personal lawyer could possibly do in those two weeks.

1:00p-EST on 6 January.  The envelope is opened and counted and announced.  Take a cue from the Swiss, or Belgians, or even the Nazis...Plot your "National Redoubt" campaign now.  Time is of the essence.  A scared, cornered animal only has 5...4...3...543 hours.  Empires have been won or lost in less time.  But our Republican shall endure in that timeframe.  I'm feeling better about things with every passing hour...are you?

I also believe that it's likely he was fired and allowed to resign, but it remains possible that he stepped away on his own. If so, I'm not sure which is more unnerving about the possibility that Barr resigned because he didn't want to be around for what's coming next.

So, should I be freaking out about the fact that there's something coming next that he didn't want to be around for? Or should I be terrified that whatever it is Bill effing Barr wants nothing to do with it?

I think those 100+ Republicans taking the side of Abbott in the SCOTUS case are their last gasp.

Barr was out the door the moment it was reported that he saw Trump as the loser.  Hell, he had a foot out the door when he publicly said the elections were secure.  This is pure pettiness.

I've never noticed this before, but yea, that was a straight-up call out to someone.  He stared them down and even nodded his head a few times, like, yea, I'm talking to you holmes.  Was it Linda Graham?  Damn.

Judge orders release of Trump obstruction memo, accuses Barr of being 'disingenuous'

A federal judge has ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release a March 2019 legal memo clearing former President Trump of potential obstruction of justice charges following the Mueller investigation, with the judge accusing former Attorney General William Barr and agency lawyers of deceiving the public.

District Judge Amy Berman Jackson on Monday ordered the DOJ to release the legal memo within two weeks in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by the liberal watchdog group Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington (CREW).

The DOJ had argued in court that the full memo — portions of which have already been released — should be withheld because it falls under exceptions to the public records law for attorney-client privilege and deliberative government decisionmaking.

But Jackson said on Monday that those claims were not consistent with her own review of the unredacted memo or the timeline revealed by internal emails among top Justice Department officials.

Jackson, who was appointed to the federal district court in Washington, D.C., by former President Obama, wrote in a scathing 41-page decision that "not only was the Attorney General being disingenuous then, but DOJ has been disingenuous to this Court with respect to the existence of a decision-making process that should be shielded by the deliberative process privilege."

"The agency’s redactions and incomplete explanations obfuscate the true purpose of the memorandum, and the excised portions belie the notion that it fell to the Attorney General to make a prosecution decision or that any such decision was on the table at any time," she added.

Donald trump is a man consumed with grievance against people he believes have betrayed him, but few betrayals have enraged him more than what his attorney general did to him. To Trump, the unkindest cut of all was when William Barr stepped forward and declared that there had been no widespread fraud in the 2020 election, just as the president was trying to overturn Joe Biden’s victory by claiming that the election had been stolen.

In a series of interviews with me this spring, Barr spoke, for the first time, about the events surrounding his break with Trump. I have also spoken with other senior officials in the Trump White House and Justice Department, who provided additional details about Barr’s actions and the former president’s explosive response. Barr and those close to him have a reason to tell his version of this story. He has been widely seen as a Trump lackey who politicized the Justice Department. But when the big moment came after the election, he defied the president who expected him to do his bidding.

Barr’s betrayal came on December 1, over lunch in the attorney general’s private dining room with Michael Balsamo, a Justice Department beat reporter at the Associated Press. Also in attendance were the DOJ chief of staff, Will Levi, and spokesperson Kerri Kupec. Balsamo was not told the reason for the invitation. When Barr dropped his bombshell between bites of salad, he mumbled, and Balsamo wasn’t sure that he had caught what the attorney general had said.

Fuck all of these traitors. They know the truth and casually debate whether to protect democracy or not, only if it benefits them. Mitch only cared about his power.

Kind of numb to it all, but god damn, we just had a president who expected the Vice President, the DOJ, and the Supreme Court to just make him dictator. And was shocked when it didn't happen.

Trump must have believed that every President before him tried this shit and failed, or they were just too stupid not to try (or by the virtue of being stupid, failed).
