I just wanted to give yall a few pointers if you're planning on making the trip to Shreveport to watch the Longhorns play in the Independence Bowl.

1)  Travel in groups, the area of town the stadium is in isn't the best, take advantage of Louisiana's lax gun control laws and carry your pistols openly and on person in each group should bring a long gun (preferably an AR15).  Don't forget multiple mags for each weapon.

2)  If you're looking for good food try The Blind Tiger, BeauJax, The Frozen Pirouge, Oyster Bar, Cajun-Asian, Ono's Hawaiian Grill or one of the way too many Mexican restaurants.

3)  The Casinos- Considering the way I've seen most Texans play Blackjack and Poker yall will be better off sticking to the slots or avoiding the Casinos altogether.

4)  Breweries- Flying Heart in Bossier has the best beer (Louisiana Amber is amazing) and the service is reasonably fast, even when busy.

5)  After dark it's best to not go out in anything less than a platoon sized element.

6)  Hotels- The Hilton downtown is like every other Hilton you've ever stayed at but the Remington Hotel is nearby and pretty unique, the Casino Hotels are another good option.

7)  Tailgating before the game is always fun (unless the weather sucks) and do to the high crime rate, the Cops are usually too busy to stop you for DWI but I recommend Uber or Lyft.

8)  There really isn't much around the Stadium so your best bet is to head to Bossier's 'East Bank' or if you're feeling up to it go to Downtown Shreveport, just be careful if you go out in Shreveport.  The bars stay open until 6AM you should have no trouble drinking off the loss and another hilariously awful Texas Longhorn Football Season.

I’ve gone there for years on casino trips. Never one ounce of trouble... that’s not to say trouble couldn’t happen, but there are FAR more dangerous cities to visit.

The stadium is right on the interstate in a pretty open area.  If you think that’s bad... lol.

Agree with not travelling/ walking around alone at night but damn, that’s anywhere.

oh and hit Ralph and Kacoo’s for some good grub.

2 lulz in this horrible troll attempt thread.

1) putting this in the limited viewed travels and food forum instead of football. Trolling at its best when you troll where almost no one will see it.

2) slorch replying to it like it's a legitimate thread. Super lulz. slorch is easily manipulated and confused so it's no surprise but still massive lulz.

Also, before writing all that dumb shit, he might want to fucking check and see that the Indy Bowl doesn't have a Big 12 conference tie in.

LuLz, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor ?

Yeah...so manipulated replying to a Shreveport thread in the travel board...

Realized later what it was...  Cool   Good luck with the banner.

ISU played in a couple of Independence Bowls in the McCarney era.  A friend of mine went to both, and he said the best part was drinking beer around a stack of burning pallets in the parking lot before the game.

I guess your excellent Louisiana education skipped over the difference between do/due

Bumping this.

Gonna be stuck in Bossier City at the Marriott Courtyard on the boardwalk for 3 days next week.  Looks like I'm sandwiched between a casino and an outlet mall.  I'm usually pretty savvy at getting out and exploring on my own, but does anyone have anything interesting to get into there?

Try to sneak onto the Barksdale grounds.  They don't mean it when they say they'll shoot.

Or try the marinated crab claws at Herby-K's.  Good place to kill an afternoon with a beer or three.

Casino not enough?  That is a nice Courtyard, by the way.  What are you looking for?  Food recs, bars?

I figured I would start with the casino, piss away the mortgage, buy drinks for hookers, etc.

An interesting bar or food rec would not hurt, though. Would prefer divey locals joints than the touristy stuff.

Nice to know the hotel is decent. Thanks!

Superior Grill for Tex-Mex and strong margaritas.  Crawdaddy's Kitchen for seafood/cajun.  Herby-K's is also good cajun.  I've got nothing relative to good bars.

All I can say is that you, and everyone else, should avoid eating at Orlandeaux's Cafe at all costs. It's highly rated and we stopped there while passing through last summer. How can restaurant owners in Louisiana fuck up soul food and cajun food at the same time? I don't know. But that place was just bad.

The last time my brother went to Shreveport, he fell asleep driving back to Austin late at night, swerved off the road, and hit a tree.  He was pinned in the car but was rescued before it burst into flames.  He then spent a few months in one of those external braces with pins poking through his leg.  He did get to ride in a helicopter though. I wouldn't recommend that.

Strawns for breakfast and or pie. Used to like the Blind Tiger as well for a beer or two once I came of age.

Most of the other places we would hit up are long gone.  Cypress Inn, George’s, Leon’s, Trejos, Bubba and Boudreaux’s, Mr Jim’s.

Man, I have such strong memories of going to Strawns and Cypress Inn when I was a kid visiting family.  My mom refuses to eat any other strawberry pie.

Ralph and Kacoo's is good Cajun, not far from you. I like it.

Superior is really good, as someone else mentioned. Ernest's is very good too, but it's expensive.

Enjoy the casino. That's about all I got. All I ever go there for.

CSB: In high school, I was friends with the Bubba and Boudreauxs owner's son. I had forgotten all about him and that place.

Ate at Herby-K’s tonight, was absolutely blown away. If you drive thru Shreveport it’s a MUST TRY. Divey, only like 4 booths in the entire inside. About 10 bar tops. Food was out of this world. A++
