@USCATX check out https://www.youtube.com/c/TheLateNightVisionShow and literally call Outdoor Legacy and Jason and/or Hans will hook you up.  I haven’t posted about this yet, but I was looking for a thermal for a 6.5 Grendel pistol and I researched for months.  Part of the research was watching that show.  I called the shop, and Jason called me back in 5 minutes.  We spent an hour OTP working through use cases I never thought about.  He gave me solid options and actually saved me $ by me not choosing something that was overkill for my needs. I bought and I’m putting together the platform - hope to post soon.  Regardless, at a minimum you get an opinion from those guys - zero sales pressure when you call.  Good luck, and post results!

Thanks again for this recommendation. I listened to quite a few podcast episodes and then called Jason and talked through digital night vision before settling on the AGM Rattler V2 TS35-384.   These guys are really working to earn business and I was very happy to buy from them.  I think I’ll probably get more use out of this thing as a hand held for looking at things around the house, night boating, looking for downed animals, etc.

I’m glad that worked out for you!  I bought that same unit but have had a problem with the rifle platform, so I haven’t posted yet. The thermal exceeded my expectations, though, and Outdoor Legacy is solid IMO.  Please feel free to post what you are using it for here - I’d love to see it!

Walked around the neighborhood trails and found a doe and a fox to watch.  The pics don’t look as good as I saw in person and you would definitely need to trigger with the app instead of the buttons for better clarity.  But holy crap, I would have never seen either of these without the thermal even with the moon tonight.  It’s incredible.

I assume you’re focusing?  Also, get off that rainbow gimmick shit and go with white hot or black hot.

I feel like it’s easier to look at rainbow for long periods, but black hot seems to look the best.  That’s about 120 yards and as good as the focus gets.  The bunnies were right at sunset and the image seems to be getting better as it cools down.  A coyote came and I could see the tail and also horns on a buck, but it’s not exactly ideal.

If you want a cheap infrared set up, and don't want to spend a shit ton of money on a thermal. You can get set up for less than $130. CHIEF Jr. and I did something like this, but with a set of infrared binoculars that cost much more than this pair, and not near as good of reviews. You can take this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCNKDGVW/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0DCNKDGVW&pd_rd_w=QzKKS&content-id=amzn1.sym.8c2f9165-8e93-42a1-8313-73d3809141a2&pf_rd_p=8c2f9165-8e93-42a1-8313-73d3809141a2&pf_rd_r=350T79PFHKVDWNK7ZPHV&pd_rd_wg=097rf&pd_rd_r=b90364de-503e-4c73-a2e8-9e5e0bba66f5&s=photo&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWw

and see out to a hundred yards or so.

But you add this $20 infrared flashlight, and you can see out to 400-500 yards:

It has worked well for us. I didn't want to spend the money for a thermal monocular, so we glass with this set up, get a bearing and then switch to the thermal on the .300BLK. You can also use an infrared scope and use green/red lights as an instant on and lay waste as well.
