Broadway Movies vs Video Game Movies

With Sonic and Cats coming out I began wondering if there was ever a video game or broadway movie that was successful. And if you put together the list of movies from each group you would find either would actually produce anything of worth, and then I was wondering why on earth these movies get made. But then I realized I was trying to rationalize Hollywood.

Then I checked out the list on wiki for video game movies and check the shit that is coming out soon.

Broadway Movies for comparison - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_plays_adapted_into_feature_films

Much longer list as the 1950s were just over run with movies made from plays/musicals.

In the end the Broadway stuff probably wins out but mainly for Chicago and a bunch of shit from the 1950s.

Also, wtf is Tetris the movie.

Wondering if there was ever a successful Broadway movie seems strange to begin with. The stuff from “the 1950s” - several of the movies actually from the 60s - isn’t exactly obscure: The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, The King and I, etc.

Is there a difference between saying the 50s and 60s? Seems like the same thing in my head. Also 1950s - Street Car Named Desire, Harvey, Death of a Salesman, Baby Doll, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Death of a Salesman, etc...

But that small list above evidence that the Broadway movie wins, granted in most of our lifetimes that post on this board, there hasn't been much to get excited about from the transition from Broadway to Film.

I guess the question should be if you were a producer in today's hollywood, would you make a movie based off a broadway play or video game or just shoot yourself?
