Daughter dropped my phone just right and now I have splotch of dead pixels by the volume buttons.

Her loss because this is supposed to be her phone when I get a new one next year.

Five bucks says you will still be carrying that one and SHE gets a new phone next year. Otherwise you will always be the bad dad and all her friends will know it. Can you live with that?

Yeah, I smell a whole new genre of porn instead of this creepy 'Step' stuff.  Mom comes with 22yo daughter to interview.  Questions ensue.  The desk is cleared and eventually a hot threeway develops.  I really don't see the problem here, especially if they're inappropriately dressed.  I guess the eye contact thing would bother me, nothing better than a blowjob from a woman staring into your eyes.

What were we talking about again?  Oh yeah, Human Resources.  It's on floor 37.

Obligatory /no CR.

I'm guessing they were driving them there and sat in the lobby? Or did they actually bring them in the actual interview?

I dunno, man.  Consistent with my "/no cr" tag, I don't watch Fox news, or any TV news for that matter.  Just a screenshot from another site.

DPS flunky playing the long game.  He's gone at 17:00:01, and doesn't need to answer your call then.
Oddly enough, their automated recording says "calls will be answered until 5:40p, CST." Not 5:30... 5:40.

Did eventually reach a human around 1725-ish.

Now the hard part is to get an appointment @ an office before September.

Go outside the metro areas. Small town DPS offices have much less wait time.

The website gave me Seguin & New Braunfels + San Antonio (NW corner... "Mega Center / Leon Valley").

Did not list San Marcos or Marble Falls as an option & I suspect Seguin is a smaller locale than Marble... & Marble is much closer to Drip than Seguin AND the Leon Valley spot.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My go to DPS office was Brenham, since it's less than 30 miles from my house and much less busy than Bryan or Hempstead.  Unfortunately, a murderous asshole in an 18 wheeler put paid to that.  I bet they keep the building as a HQ for the troopers, but close the licensing part.

Supercuts where I go jumped to about $17 to $27 after Covid.  I still look like I took a recalled Flow-Bee to my head.

Driving home after about a week visiting friends outside of Denver.  Left at 5 this AM to head home. About 30 mins into the trip the power train warning light came on.  Now sitting in a parking lot waiting for Ford Service to open up.  Probably not going to be sleeping in my bed tonight.

Maybe not trivial but I'm definitely Surly.

My son’s smelly feet can clear a room. Maybe it’s because he’s really active and feet sweat a LOT, or there’s something else going on. It’s gotten to the point we’re embarrassed to have him go to friends’ houses.

We’ve tried disinfectants, arm and hammer “balls” filled with baking soda, washing each foot at lest 30 seconds each day, washing his shoes frequently, and trying out different types of socks…

I think we’ve achieved a stalemate with a combo of rotating 3-4 different pairs of shoes, antibacterial soap, new socks and washing his shoes using hydrogen peroxide.

Not sure how sustainable after he becomes responsible for it all. But damn, I’d rather smell poop than his shoes.

Been there... this was game changer for us... especially his cleats. All shoes had to be kept in garage/outside... we knew when he took his shoes off upstairs.  After a couple weeks of daily use in all shoes it made a noticable difference for us:

Maybe not so trivial….

A couple of weeks ago we were driving down to the Arboretum area in  North Austin to meet some friends for happy hour.
We had just come down the southbound flyover from 45 onto 183. I moved over one lane after checking the rearview carefully while using the turn signals, when a red Charger roared by in the far left lane easily doing 90. I was doing 78 and slowing down with moderate southbound traffic just up ahead.
I remarked to Mrs. Brat that he was obviously a stupid asshole for thinking he could drive up on the traffic like that to weave in & out.

THEN….a second asshole in a silver/gray Mustang unseen by me until he FLEW by us in the right hand lane out of nowhere doing well in excess of 100.
I am not exaggerating - that dumbass had to hit his brakes to avoid hitting several vehicles about 100 yards ahead, with his tail end wobbling around a little.
If he had hit us from behind it would certainly been catastrophic and fatal for all involved.
I’m surprised he didn’t roll overjust from the momentun of the slight wobbling at that high speed.

Goddamned street racing morons are going to kill someone if they keep their moronic shitforbrains speeding up like that in traffic.

rant over.

Things sure have changed since you started driving and the top speed of a Model T was 42 mph.

Agreed though - too many idiots hauling ass.  South First between Slaughter and 1626 is a race track.  Often see jackasses hitting close to 90 mph, invariably in a Mustang or Challenger.

Welp cars not gonna be fixed until Wed at the earliest.  Can't get a rental until 4pm at the earliest.  Just booked a flight from Denver to ATX. This fucking sucks.  We drove to save money on flight.  Now we will fly home and back next week

It was the turbo.  They said that it affects the ability of the car to pick up speed and keep speed.  What I was told was that the turbo is like a fan and it got out of balance and threw other things off. The oil started leaking and the car started to smoke.

We were lucky that it happened when it did because there was a dealership close by.  There's not much between Colorado Springs and Amarillo.

We are waiting at the airport.  Could've been worse.  We were lucky.  Kids are troopers.

Turbos don't magically "go out of balance." Something failed hard.

The topic of people tossing bags of dog shit in random trash cans has been mentioned many times. Someone actually walked up to my trash can that was by my garage to deposit their baggie of dog shit. Haven't seen that one before.

God fucking dammit. Came back from vacation and my trash can had been out for probably four days before my neighbor brought it in for me (thanks neighbor), but in that time it collected at least FIFTEEN bags of dog shit. Fuck. You. People.

I’m now going to be that guy that puts a sign on my trash can. And maybe a booby trap.

A couple of times I’ve come across bars named “Pinche’s.”  There used to be one in Webster. I know it’s an extremely versatile word, but basically a bar named that is called “F’ers.”  The English-speaking clerks at the business license obviously DGAF.

Here’s a good one for Spanish-speakers (my first language), particularly for Mexican Spanish speakers (accent):

Hope to hell you got an estimate. In my experience anytime the turbo is mentioned...They're going in dry...and deep.

You could stop in Trinidad and get a sex change surgery while you are waiting on the car repair.  Two birds.  One stone.

This week not only did I get the joy of shelling out 45k for foundation repair, but as I settled into bed I heard a commotion out in the entryway of the house. My son and his wife are here for the weekend and their dog Cowboy was freaking out. Turned out Cowboy was the hero of the story, as he cornered a 4’ rat snake. It was dark and I didn’t ID him until after I dispatched him.
I’m sure he came in one of the 200+ times people went in and out with the foundation repairs, and all the dirt around the foundation and under our back deck being disturbed.
Mrs. NNM may not sleep for the next year. Hell, I may not either. Having a 4’ snek in the house is not fun.

It’s it the check engine light?

If I recall on my old VW, a solid light means it’s an emissions issue and can still be driven. A flashing check engine light means you’re screwed.

Super-  had a similar issue at our house and we solved it by making sure they rotate shoes (our issue was mainly with cleats and volley ball shoes) and using one of these after each use. It has an ozone maker and seems to work well for us.  About a year into it..

Maybe relevant or not, but after I lived in New Orleans a couple of years (100% humidity all the time) I started having a horrible time with foot odor. Showered twice a day, changed socks twice a day, scrubbed my feet, every foot powder known to man, threw out my old shoes, bought new ones. Nothing helped. Ten minutes out of the shower and drying my feet, they stunk again, even if I hadn't put on shoes. Buddy of mine, who was in the Viet Nam war, told me same thing happened over there. They used to piss on their feet in the shower to get rid of it, but you could just pour vinegar on your feet and dry them. Worked. Turns out it was a yeast infection from the humidity. No problems with foot odor since then.

Comes from this report here:

NEARLY 4 IN 10 EMPLOYERS AVOID HIRING RECENT COLLEGE GRADS IN FAVOR OF OLDER WORKERS

Survey happened December of last year but for whatever reason seems to be making the rounds now.

From the report, it seems as though the 19 percent figure is people who have had a parent or parents actually in the interview, not just drop the candidate off or wait in the lobby.

Quote

Regardless of whether interviews are online or in-person, recent college graduates still seem to struggle with professional behavior. Twenty-one percent of employers have had a candidate refuse to turn on their camera for a virtual interview, while 19% say they’ve even had a recent college graduate bring a parent with them to their interview.

Like most anything, one can draw whatever conclusions he or she wants from this kind of survey.  I suspect that one could survey a completely different set of hiring managers and come up with a different set of statistics.  It does not say where the people surveyed come from in terms of specific industry, just that the respondents were 25+ years of age, have annual household income above $75k, work for companies with 10 or more employees, and are a C-Level executives, HR manager, director, president, owner/partner, president, or senior to middle management.

Took my phone to get the screen replaced this afternoon. Guy told me he was backed up, and to come back in 2-3 hours.*

When I went to pick it up to pay, he said the machine will "ask you a question". The question was - do you want to tip 15%, 18%, 20% or skip? I already paid $190 for this service and it's asking for more? Grrr.

* During the time I was waiting, I went to a nearby Walmart for the first time in... several years. It's still the typical depressing Walmart experience I remembered.
