Women's Golf unanimous No. 1 in WGCA Coaches Poll

Longhorns are the nation's top team in all three major rankings.

"The Longhorns won three of their four tournaments this fall. Texas has a 50-2 [.962] record against all opponents this season, including a 16-2 mark against teams ranked in the top-25 at the time of the competition."

Women's Golf's Guo, Papp named to ANNIKA Award Watch List

The ANNIKA Award is the highest honor in women's collegiate golf.

Texas women's golfers Sophie Guo and Kaitlyn Papp have been named to the Final Fall Watch List for The ANNIKA Award, collegiate golf's highest honor, it was announced Tuesday. 

The ANNIKA Award recognizes the most outstanding female Division I collegiate golfer as voted on by her fellow golfers, coaches, golf sports information directors and the golf media. The award, in its seventh year, is named for Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam.

Papp has played in all four tournaments and 12 rounds for the Longhorns this fall with a stroke average of 69.92. She has recorded four top-10 individual finishes in as many events in 2019-20 with four rounds in the 60s and 10 rounds at par or better. Papp was selected as the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for September. 

Guo has played in all four tournaments and 12 rounds for the Longhorns this season and leads her team with a stroke average of 69.42, which also is the best in the Big 12 Conference. Guo has two top-five individual finishes this fall, including winning her first career tournament at the White Sands Invitational with a school-record 17-under-par 199. She was selected as the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for October.

Nation-leading four Women's Golfers in latest Arnold Palmer Cup ranking

A nation-leading four Texas women's golfers are among the 25 United States golfers and 25 international golfers who are listed in the fall Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking for the 2020 matches, it was announced Friday. 

The top-six golfers from the final ranking in the spring on both the United States and International side will be selected to compete in the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup. 

Using Golfstat's NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a penalty for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component.

In the United States' rankings, Texas junior Kaitlyn Papp is ranked No. 1, while senior Emilee Hoffman is No. 9. In the International rankings, freshman Sophie Guo is No. 3 and sophomore Sára Kousková is No. 25. 

Papp has competed in each of the last two Arnold Palmer Cups for the United States. 

The next Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking will be announced February 20.

Curious why Papp wasn't invited back to Augusta after finishing tied for 5th last year in the Event??

Two University of Texas women's golfers have accepted invitations to participate in the prestigious second-annual Augusta National Women's Amateur, set to take place April 1-4 at Augusta, Ga.   Sophomore Hailee Cooper and senior Emilee Hoffman are among the 72 athletes who will compete in the Augusta National Women's Amateur.

Feb 9th:  No. 1 Women's Golf tied for third at Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif.  – The No. 1 Texas women's golf team is tied for third after a rain-plagued opening day at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Sunday at Palos Verdes Golf Club.   The first round was suspended Sunday evening with three groups still on the course. The opening round will be completed Monday morning before the 11 a.m. CT start of the second round. The day also consisted of a lengthy weather delay mid-round.
 
The Longhorns carded a six-over-par 290 in the opening round. No. 25 Auburn is in the lead with a one-under-par 283. Texas posted the best scoring average [4.80, -3] on par-five holes on Sunday.
 
Senior Emilee Hoffman led the way for the Longhorns with an even-par 71. Freshman Sophie Guo [T16, 72, +1] and junior Kaitlyn Papp [T19, 73, +2] also are currently among the top-20 individually.
