My personal theory on Q:  people cannot avoid political information these days.  The typical action when your side is doing something embarrassing is to just avoid thinking about it.  It is called "Information Avoidance" and is very common all over.  People try not to think about their credit card balance, their year end review coming, whatever.
The Q people are largely Trump people.  (Look no further than the fact that TexAgs has a 10k thread on Q, the only comparable one is the Mueller probe thread with 19k specifically about the bias of the prosecutors).  They can not choose to *not* think about politics because it is ever present in the information.  So they have latched on something because their brain needs to be filled with something, otherwise they would be forced to contemplate the reality of DOTUS, which is embarrassing to them.  So where Information Avoidance is not possible, people rely on Information Substitution™.

Edit: I guess I didn't complete my thought:  So this need to fill their brains with something has led to the creation of something huge because it needs to basically occupy their entire brainspace -- or at least the portion that can be allotted to political thought.  So you get the creation of Q and millions of people willing to spend until hundreds of hours each contemplating every million string connecting together because each one of those people need a distraction from DOTUS.

A bunch of dumbasses are busy building the biggest and dumbest piece of fan fiction ever written, and Dinald Trump is cast as the hero. At this point it’s gotta be longer than Game of Thrones, so you know it has to be true. Because lots of research and articles have been written, or something. Maybe unicorns, too.

QAnon, Roseanne, Diamond & Silk, Alex Jones, Hannity, Tucker Carlson -- these are the new intellectuals of the country.

btw, Tigerdroppings is a very low level read, although better than TexAgs. Both are using 1998 BBS software.

second btw -- It's not about the Boomers anymore, all age crazy bat shit.

.Laziness and social media converge to form the new hellhole.

I think Q is the same as Ice Bucket Challenge, will disappear in 12 months

Some articles this morning suggest that Q was just a prank on Trump supporters.

if so, bravo.

It originated in 4chan and reddit, with fantastical tales of Deep State conspiracies.

It just so happens a bunch of idiots had never heard of 4chan and reddit, and so they bought into it.

credit to 4chan and reddit for fooling so many.

I don't understand how Scott Adams got into the middle of all this shit, but I do enjoy that every single time he's referenced anywhere they have to include the parenthetical (Creator of Dilbert).  Because otherwise no one would know who the fuck he is.

You could make an argument that Trump is a prank that 4chan played on America. I wouldn't go that far, but I'll absolutely say they saw Trump as a troll like them and they were exuberant at the possibility of a president who spends his time trolling everyone. They made multiple coordinated efforts to boost him, including being the biggest initial driving force behind the whole pizzagate thing.

And at this point, 4chan trolls know perfectly well that they're performing for an audience of journalists and boomers who don't understand the weirder corners of the internet.

I think this perfectly sums up what Q really is.

I think the numbers of Q believers is exaggerated.

I heard that @Hank Scorpio is a big Scott Adams fan, he loves hearing his opinions about politics.

What I love is how we are a country actually being run by internet trolls.  We elected one.  He feeds off of a band of trolls.  His candidacy was championed by trolls.

We are, and should be, the laughingstock of the planet.

Yeah, well you are a troll account using a name designed to pretend it's Hugo, which is weird as fuck, so I'm not sure why anyone should give a shit what you think. You are also completely wrong, which I guess is to be expected, given the fact you think your account name is clever. This thread is about trolls, so it's also an interesting choice for you to rear your ass in here. You are part of this problem and should have to be Bob Stoops' poison dick tester for the rest of time.

To the other posters who aren't obvious trolls... It's not exaggerated at all. There are a lot of otherwise intelligent people that have turned their brain off and believe this. They'll believe the next ridiculous scam too. This shit doesn't get traction if it's just Cletus from Alabama following it on their intertron machine. You are hearing about it now, because a sizable percentage of our population believes this to be true.

A good portion of Middle America thinks trolling like uday just did is clever and believes in Q.

We're fucked.

Good maybe all the illegals will stop trying to come here since we're such a laughing stock......  Or maybe the economy will tank, and we'll be respected again....

Fox News pays him to come on and speak about today's political climate?  Why?  I guess because the creator of Family Circus and Hagar the Horrible are both dead? So there's no one else left to present the ever-important cartoonists angle?

He was on the Trump train early and never got off when he saw the audience he could capitalize on. He’s sold a shitload of books on Trump’s “power of persuasion” techniques.

You don't know how right you are.
Nearly 25 years ago (pre internet), I was a baby lawyer, and my firm had a huge case -- big enough that we did a mock trial study.  We brought in 10 mock juries, of randomly selected local folks (kinda like a regular jury would be).  They would fill out detailed thoughts/comments at each stage.  Day 1, we did the mock opening statements -- the defendant parties were large insurance companies (it was a complex investment case).
As I was reading through the comments, most of them were normal thoughts on what the arguments looked like, etc.  But then...there were a handful that were utterly batshit.  "I would never find in favor of an insurance company because they're part of a global syndicate controlled by the Queen of England, and they run the drug trade and child sex trafficking rings at her behest."  And seriously, that was (paraphrased) one of the comments.
I brought these comments to the jury consultant, and asked him dude, WTF?  And he chuckled, and explained "well, you need to know this - about 1 in 10 folks is what you and I would call batshit crazy.  They function normally in most respects -- could be the waiter at your favorite restaurant, your dry cleaner, whatever.  In your ordinary interactions, they seem normal.  But if you get them talking at all about anything political or cultural, they're nuts.  And they're out there.  They're in every jury pool you've got.  The challenge is smoking them out before selection."
Truly about 1 in 10 people is a nut who believes that aliens are programming their thoughts, QAnon is real, some shit like that.  Always has been.

I would totally write shit like that to fuck with the baby lawyers.

It worked.

Of course, I immediately got distracted by the amazingly dirty notes that one of the mock jurors was writing to one of our co-defense counsel, so there's that.

Great Awakening reddit had some folks splinter off into another reddit.  Folks are claiming that GA is compromised/trolling with a bunch of sock accounts and nefarious stuff (which, if you look at GA, you do wonder about the ratios of socks to actual humans).

Also,  I think a lot of them were not expecting to be so publicly ridiculed.  They were happily chugging along, reading their Q info drops, and then bam, some end up front-and-center at Trump’s rally, where they find themselves to be ridiculed by the internet and the media they claim to loathe.

The very same. In plenty of cases these people are not visiting/browsing it directly so much as seeing content originating there or being linked to specific posts, but there's no dispute that all this Q nonsense started there. Definitely the sort of place where you'd expect to find a legit high-level intelligence leak that is definitely not a made-up troll.

Also let's just take a second here and assume purely for the sake of argument that Q has proven they have insider info coming from high up in the Trump admin. All that would prove is that they are in or working with someone in the Trump admin. A rational person would probably think that this makes Q LESS credible when they make totally unsubstantiated claims about the political opponents of the Trump admin being a bunch of satanist cannibal pedophiles. Like, gee, I wonder if they might have an agenda here.

Of course, if this whole thing doesn't go down in flames soon, Trump will absolutely find ways to wink at them and egg them on, probably wile maintaining some degree of plausible deniability. He's not good at much, but playing to his crowd is something he does know. And he likes to give shoutouts to people who say nice things about him almost as much as he likes to complain about people who say mean things. There's just no way he's going to do one rally after another packed with Q people and not find a way to pander to them.
