Barry Odom fired at Mizzou

Fuck schools like Missouri, houston,  and Colorado that have zero self awareness about who they are. Michigan state has it right. They know who they got and it comes with ups and downs and some other slimy shit but at least they are committed to dantonio and realize they are going to have shitty seasons from time to time because if they fire him and hire a coach from Toledo or some other mac school,  they are gambling with the odds not in their favor of actually improving.

Does Missouri think they are getting norvell? That's the best they are going to get unless arky gets him.  Maybe they can hire butch jones because SEC.

Napier at ULaLa would be a phenomenal hire.

Not only is it kind of perplexing why he was dismissed, their financial situation isn't that great either:

It’s no secret that the Missouri athletic department has been operating in the red for the past two seasons and thus likely won’t have top dollar to pay their next head coach. Combine that with some likely recruiting challenges as part of the fallout from the NCAA sanctions, while the job will still be appealing to many, it will certainly come with some interesting challenges.

Steve Berkowitz adds that if offensive coordinator Derek Dooley isn’t retained with the new staff, he will be owed a nearly $2.1 million buyout (subject to duty to mitigate), and if defensive coordinator Ryan Walters isn’t kept, he will be owed $1.8 million (also subject to duty to mitigate). Both Dooley’s and Walters deals run thru Feb. 28, 2022.

In Missouri's defense, if you are in the SEC and get to stack your schedule with cupcakes, you probably should expect better.

They also get Arky every year from the West.  Schedule 4 easy non cons and with a mixture of Vandy, Kentucky, S’Carolina, and Arky and that’s 7/8 wins a year, which is what they’d have this year had they beaten Wyoming (lulz).

Not that I want them back, but they should have never gone to the SEC.  I know they’d drop to their knees even now for the Big 10 but they’re an ill fit for the SEC.  I can’t seem to muster the hate for them reserved for Aggy and Nebraska, though.  I just don’t care.

And, with the NCAA issues, they don't get the $10m of SEC post season money since they can't participate.    That's a big hole to throw $20m into.

their enrollment is down about 5,000 students (14%) from the high

they have been concerned with their place in the AAU for a while now and have tried to do things to address it

https://themissouritimes.com/24093/report-reveals-mu-ranked-at-the-bottom-of-the-association-of-american-universities/

there is an internal report out there as well by the UM System that recognized they were at the lower levels of the AAU (CU has a similar report)

both need to get more funding, but I am not sure it will happen for either of them and all of this was before the enrollment and corresponding funding drops at MU

I don't think CU is in trouble, but MU needs help bad and right now it looks like the AAU is letting them work on things, but with two new members who knows for how long
