2019 Alamo Bowl: Texas vs. #11 Utah - Pregame Discussion Thread

Week between Christmas and this game, tickets will be down to Face value

for those that have been recently to the Alamodome——is there any reason to justify club level tickets?   Used to be because they had liquor and not just beer or lounge areas to watch other games.  But I’m assuming we are the only game and you can buy hooch anywhere inside.

I'm looking forward to seeing us in action against a good team. I hope we get to continue to groom Foster, Overshown and Chris Brown to start next season. It was cool to see them step up after gifting Tech 14 to start that game and I'd be excited to see them fly around and hit mf'ers in a less wide-open offense. This also might be the type of offense our LBs need to look good.

On offense? Is Collin playing or not? Because otherwise I have no real high hopes.

I actually feel like us have less coaches will benefit us for this game. Shouldnt have too many cooks in the kitchen calling plays on offense. Herman better be calling 100% of the plays since its his ass on the line.

While I am not happy about the venue, I am happy about the opponent. At least it's not some snoozefest of 7-5 teams battling it out.

Narrator: We were the only snoozefest 7-5 team that day...

Wife and I are both alums and we've been to 2 other Alamo Bowls (comeback W vs Iowa, and comeback W vs Oregon State). Fuck all the bitchass, this is gonna be another fun one. We will definitely be loud and drunk.

Glad to hear it. Your wife’s a lot more fun when she’s drunk.

I personally am glad we are playing somebody I think is currently a better team than we are.  I think that the idea of getting whipped may bring the kids and coaches together.  I also like the fact that we should be able to get a little more healthy from a depth perspective.  If they can't get up for the game then that's on them.
The good news is we have an opportunity.  A real opportunity to take a step forward.  Was I disappointed in this season?  I would be a liar if I said otherwise.  But we still have an opportunity to end on a high note, and beat what I think is one of the better teams in the country.  It's honestly going to be a gut check.  The team is gonna see a team they played to the end as well as anyone all season is going on and play in the National championship. They need to get their level of play back to that LSU competition level again, and they have 21 days to do it!
Kicking some ass in the Alamo bowl would be a very good way to finish the season. Getting our ass kicked in the Alamo bowl is not what the coaching staff, the team or the fanbase needs going into 2019. I think the kids and the coaches are gonna be motivated. I expect a good game and I think that we may end up coming out on Top here.  If we do win we are going to have to play a good game. Not a good quarter, not a good half, but a good game from start to finish.  Get a few kids healthy, and proper motivation I think our best game might again be good enough.

this is about as good as it can get for what this Texas team has done

if Texas was able to beat the #12 team and finish 8-5 that would put Texas probably ranked just outside the top 25 to end the season or maybe even #25 depending on what some other teams do

depending on who returns and who Texas hires as coordinators that means start the season somewhere in the top 20 next year and have an LSU game without their 23yo sr QB raised by a college coach leading them and an early season game at that so their QB will still be learning things

They’ll probably destroy us and our interim staff, but I am dubious as to whether they’ll be motivated after their trouncing by Oregon. They may not be overly excited to be there.
Uhh..do you even playing the Longhorns in their own state bro? If they cant get up for that, all the viagra in the world wont help them..

Any word on how many Louise Ciccones (or "pre Madonnas" as the surl illiterati likes to say) will be sitting this one out?

I think I remember reading that Roach, B Jones, and C Johnson already announced that they will be playing. Realistically all three need a good bowl game performance. No one on the team has done enough to lock in a high draft position.

Let’s have a bit of a reality check here. “Beating Texas in their home state” doesn’t mean jack shit these days. The Ute players were somewhere between the 2nd and 5th grade in elementary school when Texas was last consistently relevant. Getting excited about beating By God Texas in San Antonio probably holds about as much as excitement and motivation for them as beating Tennessee in the Liberty Bowl or Florida State in the Whoever’ll Sponsor a Bowl in F’ing Orlando tilt.

We’re all Texas fans here and tend to get wrapped up in our UT centric view of things, but Texas has been at best a paper tiger, and mostly just plain toilet paper for the last decade.

This is pretty much correct. Football-wise we're pretty much Florida State, only with a less recent national championship and a more recent big bowl win.

Tennessee... does anyone under the age of 30 think of them as even a sleeping giant anymore? They've sunk to like Mississippi-school levels of relevance. And at least Ole Miss recently won a Sugar Bowl and Miss State was ranked #1 for a hot second.

Your post is definitely valid.  Texas has been wandering in the wilderness for an entire decade now.  While an historic "blue blood" name, Texas doesn't have the cache' these days.  Thanks, Mack, Charlie and Tom.

Still, Utah recruits Texas pretty heavily and we're fighting them for a few kids: T.Jordan, J.Burns, O linemen.  C.Rising transferred there.  Game might make a difference in recruiting wars.

It's a total POS, and has been since the day it was built. Great sight lines though.

Yes, I know---I never understood why it was built in the first place since the Spurs started complaining about it 20 minutes after the ink was dry on the blueprints.

That said, haven't been there in a long, long time.  With the new alcohol rules at college sports---is there any reason to get club level tickets or is that just a waste of money?  Specifically---does the Alamo Bowl sell beer/wine in every area or just some?  I guess I'd ask the same about mixed drinks since it is New Year's Eve.

I watched a Spurs game there once.  I was about 1.5 miles away from the court by some huge vinyl curtain with no elevation with respect to the court.  It was awesome.

I qualified for tickets through the Foundation. Hope they’re good. Feel very good about this game. 2020 will get started off right with a Horns W

I went thru Foundation, which made me nervous.  They put us in the bleeds last year for Big 12 Championship and right behind the endzone for RRS this year.  However, I called Ticket Office and they had us between section 132-135 for Alamo Bowl, so not too bad.  Which makes me think they didn't get a great deal of requests (Rank is 11K out of 34K)

I was in the endzone as well for the RRS so I hope I end up the same good sections you are in for this bowl game.

Comments from a well known ticket broker (Best Tickets).

Cohen said tickets are going anywhere from $75 to $500 right now, and he doesn’t see the prices getting much higher.

“My crystal ball is on the blink, but I predict prices to stay probably, you know, relative to about $100 average sale price,” he said.

“I don't predict a big spike at the end because Utah is too far to travel from,” Cohen said. “Pacific Coast teams tend not to travel as well, so I anticipate it probably to be a more gradual sell than a spiking sell.”
