Mid 2022 Lucchese began “allocating” their product as they sought to build their own stores out. It wont end well for them as I saw this before from others years ago, but they have significant financial back so it will take time for them to realize their losses.

Currently Cavender’s is allocated 200 pairs of boots per month for the entire chain with no more special orders. Cavender’s no longer carry Lucchese shirts or belts either, and it’s a damn shame because I am not a fan of Lucchese but outside of my Double J belts I think Lucchese makes the best.

All that said, Lucchese was overpriced 20 years ago, I’m sure their new store model combined with their wildly inflated prices will lead to very unfavorable times in the not too distant future.

There is a difference between "expensive" and "overpriced."  If people are buying it, then it is by definition not overpriced.  It's just more expensive.

I tend to agree that this won't end well for them once demand for western wear fades, like it always does.  I guess as long as they keep cranking out Yellowstones they're fine.  Although, they prolly don't own the real estate and can fall back into mass channels again but mass ain't gonna sell boots with an entry point of $1,000.

People are still buying Tecovas?

I am with you in that Tecovas jumped the shark 3 or 4 years ago, but I guess it could have been debatable.

I'm still on their catalog email list because I own a pair or two from yesteryear, and this has got me thinking Tecovas is an unserious person. $200 for a weirdo bathrobe + sweater mashup.

I just want to put in a good word for Chisos. I own 32 pairs of boots and, other than my custom-made Blackjacks, which are a beautiful work of art that I only wear for special occasions, I like my Chisos the best. They're a bit understated but they are incredibly comfortable. When I first saw their ads I thought they'd be a Tecovas knockoff but they're much better built. I wore them for 14 hours on the concrete floor at Antones and my feet felt like they were ensconced in velvet. I got the #2s and I can tell they're going to last the rest of my life.  I hope they keep adding to their lineup because I want to get another pair soon. I bought mine at the store and met the owner, Will, who's a great Texas character.

Since I recently bought myself and m'lady a pair of Lucchese's, I became a bit interested in their business model.  Being the consumer retail nerd that I am, I was curious.  Here are my findings.

1.  The brand image is high end.  Someone on here said it's Western meets Prada.  Bingo.  I started looking at it as a brand like LV rather than just a boot store.

2.  They're 100% DTC now.  (Direct to Consumer.)  They're not in any other retail channels like back in the day.  (Cavenders and what not.)  Only the website and their owned stores.

.

You can still get them from Texas Boot Company.

I may me wrong, then.  Although, those models and price points aren't on the Lucchese website.  Maybe they're old inventory and they haven't sold through yet....?

Someone up thread posted that Cavender's gets a very small allocation so maybe that's it.  I didn't think they were getting any and that was pretty recent.

I was wasting some time after seeing this thread on the Tecovas site. Bought the Jason rubber sole boots in 2022 and I love them. Held up after a lot of wear. Have had several people ask me where I got them etc. Anyway, wanted to see what they had these days and saw the SAME boot I got in 2022 is now listed at $345. I paid $255. I feel better now looking at Dan Post for closer to $200. :)

Yeah the $345 entry point is a big turn off. Might as well get something nicer because you’re in range of Lucchese.

I’ll keep an eye out for their Birthday releases and if they bring back some of the classics, but it’s not something I’ll reach for.

I’ve some good luck with Dan Post exotics, but it’s been about 15 years.

I just picked up some Dan Post boots. I wanted a dark brown boot and stumbled across the Renegade. So far I like them very much. They are goat leather and are supposed to have a nice "distressed" look after some wear. Love em so far.

I am sure it has been mentioned on here previously. But Cuero has that crazy sale going on right now. I spoke to a Beth at customer service and she said they won’t be another production and this is the end of Cuero.

I got 3 pair for $280 two pair of the cavalier and a pair of the Darrens.

My dog ate my OG pair of cueros which caused me to go looking again. Legit can’t beat them for $90. They aren’t the fanciest boots but they are comfortable. 43e4fab7bac1606ca51eec1ed99d8248.jpg

out of my size.  Thanks for the heads up though.

So they were out of my size in one of the cavaliers and they called me today and asked if I wanted a refund, or they would send me a pair of their “the Austin” ropers and an 11.5 EE in the cherry cavalier boots I ordered instead of the 12D I ordered.

4 pairs of boots (one of which may not fit me but I think they will) for $280. That’s like the price of crocs these days.

They must be about out of warehouse lease, I can’t understand any other reason they would fire sale like this.

For the record I only buy my crocs when they are buy 2 get 2 free and I can get the kiddos new ones. For kids under 5 crocs are literally a gift to parents.

So this is getting weird. I just got an email from Cuero. They just shipped me two more pairs of boots on Friday, and when I logged into my account they refunded my original purchase with store credit.

I somehow hit the boot lotto. I am going to end up with 3 pairs of their eastwoods in sahara yellow since that is all they have left in a 12, and 9 total pairs of boots for $280.

Upon inspection it seems like the "new" cuero boots are literally tecovas. The Brand on the bottom of the sole, the stamp in the shaft, and the toe stitching are identical to my cartwrights. Wonder if Tecovas gave them a cease and desist and that is why they "unofficially" went out of business?

I Bought some Ariat boots while in Nashville for the game last week.

Ariat Men's Sport Wide Square Toe Cowboy Boot

They’re comfy but I bought a half size too big. I had also tried on Ariat Bench Made which I really liked but they did not have my size in the color I wanted.

tried Tecovas too but I wasn’t sold on them.

anyway, this sent me down the rabbit hole and ended up with Chisos #2 when I got back to town.

time to break them in.

fuck boots are expensive.

i thought cuero and tecovas boots were made by the same shop ?

It looks like they are literally everything on them is identical, Cuero just doesn’t have the variety that Tecovas does. If they aren’t in the same factory in Leon then they are next door neighbors who share everything.

Question for those that are more boot knowledgeable than me. Since I am ending up with a few pairs of the same boots in my boot windfall (they just refunded my entire purchase again because the last delivery was only one of the two pairs), am I good to just leave them in the box for 5+ years and break them out whenever the others wear out? Or should I take them out of the box, or at least condition them?

If not in the box what is the best way to store them?

They will need periodic conditioning. New boots out of the box should get a nice treatment regardless. I use Saphir Renovateur. Saphir Crème Universelle is good, too. Bick 4 works, it just won’t last as long IMO*

Best way to store them is with trees and shaft shapers.

*Oiled leather (Saphir makes a couple) and exotics (Saphir Reptan) need specific conditioners

My fiancée just got me these Rujo caimans as a wedding gift. I'll be wearing them on the big day (next Saturday).

This is my second pair of Rujos. I also have the lizards. I'm really impressed with both pairs. The fit and finish are great. I'd say they're at least a few notches above Tecovas in terms of quality and at a slightly lower price point.

My Niece is also getting married this Saturday at 3:00. You wouldn’t happen to be getting married at St. Mary’s Cathedral (d/t Austin)?

Niece’s Dad, also a UT grad, I slightly asked why a home game Saturday? All he could say was they and the “wedding planner” decided on the date, place, time, and venue for the reception in damn near Dripping Springs. I digress as I live in SA and will take 281 home afterwards.

Does an ear bud look “not great” during a wedding? MFs also picked the weekend that Army plays Notre Dame in the 100th year anniversary of the Grantland Rice coined “4 Horsemen game!”

Wedding in d/t Austin (St Mary’s), and on a coinciding game downtown, so I told the wife coming from SA, we need to be d/t an hour prior on game day. She still doesn’t understand, so we’ll be pushing it and I’ll get a MFng speeding ticket which will be my fault and delay us further!

Still haven’t received word from Surly - “Art Vandelay” that he’s not about to join the family or not? Niece buying him boots prior to the wedding would be spot on, as even though she makes 6 figs herself, she’s still on my BILs allowance.

Can’t do nothing but shake my head, as he has done so much for my family in desperate situations.

They make a pretty smart looking pair pirarcu boots. I’ll probably go with them over a pair of Tecovas lizards. Same price if get the boots and belt belt at Tecovas.
