Mostly it's people looking for easy entry. Something like black jack isn't easy entry for people unfortunately.

It I feel like the rec was the Luchesse 2000 for a while then tecovas when they were cheaper then cuero and now???

Expand

Even the 2000's dont belong in the same sentence as Tecovas imo.    Price or quality.  It's been a long time, but iirc the few pairs of 2000's I had about in 2008-2010 frame were still ~$450.   The ostrich and caiman ones were anyhow.

That sucks.  I had several friends have hats built there ~20 years ago.  These were guys who've been wearing hats since they could walk and they all seemed pretty happy with them.  They were also all ags tho...so who knows.

I’ve also heard good things. Still optimistic.  I ordered the hat a week before Thanksgiving. A very busy time of year + the biggest game in a decade the following week.

I think they’ve stayed deliberately small to maintain quality which is refreshing, but I wouldn’t call them well organized.

Jokes on y’all! Tecovas will live forever as a business school case study on how PE can ruin an established brand.

Expand

They weren't really established, though.

It'll be a good case study in a company that kind of got lucky with good timing on a consumer trend.  Western wear is in style every 10-15 years or so and they got the timing right.

I need affordable, good quality caiman or gator boots, preferably in black cherry if available, but will take any color if not. What brand am I buying?

Anderson Bean for more affordable, Black Jack for more quality but still affordable.  Guess it all depends on what you want to spend but neither break the bank.   The BJ's should last you a long long time.

Tecovas Trading Post is pretty handy to unload your old boots on unsuspecting souls. Just take pictures on your phone, they create the listing, and send you a shipping label when it sells.

Bought the pair for $295. Sold for $259 on Trading Post, and I keep $207.

Any beltmaker recs? Texas based or otherwise? Don't want to spend an insane amount, just need something to replace my shitty old belt and thought I'd check here. Just looking for a basic jean belt.

Also, lowballed some guy on ebay and picked up another pair of completely NIB Cueros for $70. Not sure there is a better pair of boots you can buy new for that price lol

The man just bought $70 boots. Not sure he’s gonna be down with $300+ on a belt lol. But I do love my Double J’s. I’m down to 3 now, and the youngest one is 17 years old.

Give me a week. They wrapped it up real nice. It was a gift for my wife for getting on a good committee. I’m sure the aggys will give her a couple a thousand complaints. Catalena holds mythical status with that group. I’ll admit they’re quite reasonable.

If you’re in dallas around fair park, rujos’ warehouse is there with a small showroom.

Ir isn’t a retail shop per se but I stopped in there one day, and they let me try some on. It’s a great way to see their styles and the fit without doing it entirely online.

Fiancé bought me a pair of the black cherry Arturo’s from Rujos as a Christmas gift and I’ve been pretty happy with them so far. Went by their showroom to exchange for a different size and talking to the sales person they are made in a sister factory of Tecovas as the owners originally worked for Tecovas before branching off.

One of the guys I work with is a big Rujos fan. Remind me of Tecovas circa 2021, before they broke big. Quality above their price point and great customer service.

Rujos was a key sponsor at the Longhorn Jubilee in dallas last weekend. They had a trailer with boots, shirts, and other stuff.

They got pretty good traffic through the trailer.

Bob Wills, Band of heathens, toadies and polyphonic spree played.

PSA: If you're in Dallas, Rujo is holding its first warehouse sale this weekend.

I subscribe to their emails, so I guess that makes me a "VIP," which gave me early access yesterday, plus complimentary cocktails. So I swung by, and they have a pretty big selection of styles that they're discontinuing, starting at 50% off. They also have some blemished boots that are marked down (though not as much). The discounts will increase all weekend.

I didn't buy any boots (they didn't have my size in the ones I was interested in), but I may go back today to pick up a belt or something.

The warehouse is over near Fair Park. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

They have tons of belts. I bought two.
Also ended up buying some boots even though they're not my regular size. They still fit fine. Black FQ ostrich ropers for $250.*

Great handle, and nice pick ups. The old school Tecovas warehouse sales were great. Good to see Rujo is basically Tecovas pre PE money now.
