If they mention "Family", "Children" or "National Security" just know the real result is a further trampling of your civil rights and a step further down the road to a totalitarian regime.

Know what countries do monitor web and porn usage openly and aggressively currently?

North Korea and China.

Guns, drugs, porn, and rock and roll. None of these should be fucking banned.

This is a rich post coming from you. I actually agree with you on this, but seeing other shit some of the posters have made regarding the 2nd is laughable now that it’s the 1st.

Well when a video of an gang bang kills a bunch of elementary school kids, I’ll reconsider.

The amendments aren’t interchangeable.

So nobody is going to provide an example of how this can go horribly wrong?  Not even a generic example?  I'm going to have to come up with a hypothetical for you all then.

First, this isn't hypothetical, but it's very important - William Bar is an extremely conservative Catholic who is not fond of the notion about the separation of church and state, and this could easily come into play.  This is what he had to say at Notre Dame a few months ago:

Quote

“This is not decay,” Barr intoned darkly at Notre Dame. “This is organized destruction. Secularists and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry, and academia in an unremitting assault on religion and traditional values.”

So the Attorney General of the United States is out there claiming that societal problems come down to people not having enough Jesus in their life.  He was recently on the board of directors of the Catholic Information Center, a group run by Opus Dei.  Yes, THAT Opus Dei - that's not something dreamed up by Dan Brown after a night of cheap vodka and sniffing coke off of a hooker's ass.  These fuckers are very serious about the whole "sin" thing, only they are not serious about it in a good way.

So now let's get into hypothetical situations - say you or me have our hypothetical  pre-schooler at the hypothetical local park.  I am bored while my hypothetical kid is drawing stuff on the sidewalk, or riding her bike or scooter around or swinging or whatever.   She starts playing with another hypothetical pre-school kid who is a little younger than her, and who is wiling to do whatever she says, so he's following her around the park like a puppy dog.  Anyways, I'm sitting there bored, but the other kid's hypothetical mom is hovering around the area.  She's nice-looking, and seems like a good mom.  She comes over and introduces herself and starts talking to me, you know, the usual hypothetical stuff, "our kids really like playing together, oh by the way, you read that Shaggy Longhorn site?  My husband does as well, he posts on there a lot."  We make smalltalk for a while, and before I know it, and hour-and-a-half has passed, and then she has to go -  her kid has a class or story time or something somewhere, but she asks when my daughter and I will be back at the park.  I tell her a few days that we will be around.

A week goes by, we are back at the same park at the same time, she's there, and she comes over and greets me and my daughter by name (yep, she remembered us).  She seems just as interested in seeing me as her son is in playing with my daughter.  Another 90 or so minutes fly by while we talk and our kids are somewhere around the park. Turns out that's not their neighborhood park, but she and her kid likes the park, and they sometimes meet friends of his there.  They have to leave again, but before she goes, she mentions that our kids are playing well together, and I said "yeah, my daughter wants to have a playdate with your son some time" (I lied, although it's totally possible she may want a playdate with him, and when asked, of course she would say yes).  We exchange phone numbers, and I tell her to text us whenever they are around.

A few days later, I get a text from her (at first I was almost confused, because I listed her in my contacts under a guy's name, but I remembered in time).  She asks us to meet them at a different park, so we do.   This time it's away from both of our neighborhoods, and she seems pretty flirty and much less uptight.  We hang out together for a couple of hours.  Our kids are doing whatever (we aren't bad parents, we know where they are at and that they aren't in any danger).   We make this our new "home" park - I don't know anybody there, nor does she.

A week or so later, we are there, and she says "I've got this funny meme I need to send you" and I'm thinking "oh fuck, memes, lovely", but instead she texts me a photo of her topless (just her chest, and no I'm not posting it here, rules be damned).  I kind of choke a little bit, and quickly make sure I'm not on wifi so that any photos I take or download don't end up streaming on iCloud through to my other devices/wife's phone, I save the photo and delete it and the text message, and turn off the iCloud syncing with messages and photos.  She acts embarrassed and says she shouldn't have done that, and I'm like no, I like it, it's cool, and she tells me she's never done that kind of thing, and her husband would flip.  I show her how to make sure it doesn't end up on her iCloud photo stream, and the same with her messages.  We both change our passwords on our phones (turns out we were using passwords our spouses could probably guess).  We exchange a few more photos next time we are around each other (this way, we know nobody will accidentally see it pop up on our notifications/lock screen).

Now, at this point, under the bullshit being pushed by the folks in the OP's article, she and I should be prosecuted by the Department of Justice/FBI/whoever, because we have created and exchanged pornography, even though we are the only ones who have seen it.  And because of how this stuff works these days, our images could have easily traveled across state lines on the inter webs.  Especially as the next step I took was to setup a shared Dropbox account for the two of us, so nothing was stored on our devices.

Things progress, we setup a playdate with our kids at her house when she knows her husband will be out-of-town and the other kid (maybe two kids, never paid attention as I never met them) are at school, I come over, she has Peppa Pig going on the TV, our kids are instantly in a trance (and those fucking Peppa Pig streams on YouTube last for hours).  She has me come to a different room, her and her hubby's bedroom, and the husband is identifiable as a Longhorn fan, and I'll leave it at that.   Anyways, things happen, we jokingly take a few videos and photos.

Again, at this point, under the bullshit being pushed by the folks in the OP's article, she and I should be prosecuted by the Department of Justice/FBI/whoever, because we have created and exchanged pornography, even though we are the only ones who have seen it.  And there's video and action photos, so that would definitely veer into "obscene".

Anyways, my hypothetical scenario could still be playing out until this day.  Hell, the hypothetical woman in this scenario had told me that I hate Tom Herman as much as her hypothetical husband does, so the hubby and I could have been hypothetical friends in different hypothetical circumstances.

Now if the folks in the OP's article had their way, and the government was actively seeking out and going after people over porn, and were combing through a free Dropbox account we setup to share stuff, even though it's much safer hypothetically than texting each other and having shit on our phones, the government is going to track it back to our phones and us in the photos.

So all because some motherfucker couldn't be bothered to make sure his son(s) weren't looking at porn on the internet (as opposed to whacking off to his wife's Victoria's Secret catalog), and because of a bunch of puritanical assholes and an Opus Dei-loving Attorney General, there could be a couple of hypothetical Longhorn fans having their hypothetical families wrecked, all because of a simple hypothetical affair that our hypothetical spouses weren't aware of.  We could even hypothetically end up in jail for creating, possessing, and transmitting pornography.

Granted, that's a pretty generic example, but you get the idea of where this could all go horribly wrong.

But, the are all protected equally under the bill of rights.

You don't get to pick and choose which ones you think are important and shit on the rest, otherwise you are exactly like these pieces of shit supporting this insanity, under the guise of "Protecting the Children".

All of our rights are important or none of them are at all.

Pick a side. Liberty or totalitarian regime.

Yep the world is completely black and white. No room for any grey area at all.

"Pick a side. Liberty or totalitatian regime"

Like jesus fuck thats worse fearmongering than "think of the children".

Did you not pay attention to me slamming the Patriot Act on this very fucking thread a page or 2 back?

You aren't paying any attention at all.

In fact, multiple folks bashed this shit, hated on the War on Drugs , defended the second and slammed the Patriot Act. Very selective reading.

Well that is a very convenient thing to say now. Where the fuck were you people when the shit was getting signed into law and used on American citizens?
