New Year's Day? I watched this last week. (Still have it on Plex. ) It was great, as expected. Would have liked to hear more about dual lives Henley and Frye were living during the transitional Stone Poneys years, they sort of glossed over the relationship between Ronstadt and those guys as the Eagles started ascending.

She was something else.

Some thoughts now that I've seen the whole thing:

-- she can still hold pitch.  I'd love to hear her do some more work, not unlike how John Prine has kept on trucking after a couple of bouts with cancer, but I understand that she is unhappy that she can't meet her former standard.

-- those hits with Aaron Neville might represent the height of sheer vocal talent for a duo in the pop era.

-- she is damn smart.  I loved how the show made it clear that she wasn't going to be bossed around.

-- Carrie Underwood needs to get out of music and just do porn.  God, I can't stand her bleating, overwrought voice.  She's like the guy on my HS wrestling team who did nothing but bench press and skipped leg day for 2 years.

Back to Linda: that's one of the best "artist bio" documentaries I've ever seen.

I posted this in the other thread, but this was really, really well done. It's criminal what Parkinson's has done to one of the finest singers our generation has known. Jesus what I would have given to beat JD Souther to that punch.

Still haven't seen this either.  There is a documentary with her and most of the Laurel Canyon crowd.  Warren Zevon was also in it.  They had gone overseas.  It was obvious how smart Linda was and this was really before she completely took off.

This is the music of my teen years. She was fantastic. There’s also something about her plain speaking voice that I find very attractive. Parkinson’s is awful.

I can watch this video, over and over.   And a cover, no less.  But my favorite of all time.

And the best is at the end.   3:30 with the "Ah that was nothing" shrug.  Just gold.
