Vox champions new California labor law.  Oops Vox forced to fire hundreds of journalists because of new California labor law.  California=how government would run if Hugo, Dennison, Jimmy James, and the rest of the Borg on here were running it.

Ok so what’s your solution for helping ‘gig economy’ workers get healthcare and benefits?

Well, first you have to MAGA.  Then, you have to blame mexicans.  Then.....profit?

First, you call your political opponents "human scum."  Next, you do absolutely nothing to help workers, and completely ignore issues with independent contractors including lack of benefits such as health insurance. Then, you make sure to torpedo the ACA, which many (most?) freelancers use.  Then you bitch and moan about the other side's attempts to fix these problems, without offering any solutions or legislation of your own, or even acknowledging that there's a problem.  And then you win some more elections by lying to the American public about what you've done while fearmongering.

He really really hates California and is dying for one of its liberal policies to destroy the state. Someone needs to tell him that the high taxes killed California long ago, and the golden state won't hurt him anymore.

Disconnect employment from healthcare. Medicare for All would be one method to remove that archaic bond.

i agree that this is the main issue. so many people are tethered to jobs they hate because of healthcare. i'd be willing to bet the number of entrepreneurs is artificially low in america for that one simple reason.

For those who use economy strength as the end all be all of indicators of good policy, they sure do have an issue with the 5th largest economy in the world (just surpassing the UK).

So the largest economy in the U.S. and one of the largest in the world?

Say, by the way, how is Tim Pool's search for a mommy/lover coming?

This is worse than a Parliament thread.

The worst thing about guys like EMAW and Zavala isn't that they are abject morons who post moronic shit; it's that they post stupid videos like any of us actually want to sit around and watch youtube trolls while at work.  I guess the combination of unemployment and illiteracy present in guys like EMAW results in them thinking that posting videos is better than posting a news article that people can actually read.

Or, kinda like how the nation's entire economic model used to be before shareholders and corporate profits became the only thing that mattered, and corporations spent the next three decades cutting every corner at the expense of the middle and lower class?

Between healthcare tying people to their job and double taxation on the self-employed, it's laughable for anyone to think that America is still anywhere near the leader of the world in terms of encouraging and supporting entrepreneurship and small business.

The only businesses the government helps these days are those you'd get shares of if you buy SPY.

OP seems to have no direct concern for the people harmed by idiotic do gooder laws, but neither do any of the other people in this thread.

As a practical matter, you can only ban things. Laws cannot create jobs. Laws can only ban them. And that's exactly what they did in CA.

It's a perfect example of why you have to be realistic about the outcome of goverment intervention, because if you aren't then you hurt people. And this outcome was completely predictable.

I was in CA for the first time in many years recently. Man, literally everything is a sticker shock. Gas, lunch, car rentals man it was all like a 50% premium to reality. $15 for every lunch. I mean I ate pretty good, poke bowls are awesome, but come on.

How do you go bankrupt? Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.

I love it when right wingers point to California as a shining example of why Democrat leadership is so terrible.  Because the entire Deep South is such a Utopia?

And stuff is expensive in California because of supply and demand, that whole unregulated free market thing you Republicans love so much as long as no one wants to buy or sell a joint or play online poker or get paid for performing a wedding for two men or do any of the other things you think the Baby Jesus wouldn't approve of.  You blame the Democrats for pushing socialism and you blame the Democrats when capitalism makes things expensive as shit in a blue state.  You can't lose, can you?

The States were designed to be laboratory experiments in democracy.

California is doing its thing. Colorado is doing its thing. Texas is doing its thing. . . .Some are doing it better than others, especially in the (. . .) states.

California saw a problem. Not only with lack of healthcare, but the general unique nature of the gig jobs. These employers can be a drain on the economy and rely on public subsidies for their bare-market employment opportunities. They are protecting their labor from exploitation, requiring employers to cover the externalities of their business operations, and saving Californians tax dollars. The flip side is whether that will cost jobs.

Posted

This Cali bill essentially does what the feds did to "contract labor" a long time ago and extends that to include benefits. This is a hamfisted attempt to correct a social wrong, but not sure they thought this one through.

Personally I love it when trumplican morons bash the economy of California, because its just too damn easy to refute.

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/california-economy-16-mind-blowing-facts-2019-4-1028142608#california-sold-2-5-billion-worth-of-marijuana-last-year-but-still-fell-short-of-expectations16

They only bash it because its democrat, like they do with Chicago. Its just so dumb.

No, California is not perfect, like say, Kansas is. The state where the OP pretends he’s from.
