Best version ever.  Petty was absolutely seething underneath.  10 days after 9/11.

Damn.  Thanks for posting.  Goosebumps in the beginner and a tear in the end.

also, who is that on bass? never seen that guy play with them before.

That's Howie Epstein, who was (physically and in other ways) just a shadow of his former self by 2001, when that tribute concert occurred.  I had to look pretty close myself at the video to satisfy myself that it was him.  Howie died less than 2 years later.

This is outstanding. And it reaffirms my assertion that Mike Campbell has never wasted a single note his entire career.

More dudes with fros.

I just learned that George Harrison gave My Sweet Lord to Billy Preston to record. Billy’s version is great, but the live version with Buddy Miles is over the top.

Don't really know if you can consider these better but they are fantastic for what they are.

I dig these cats a lot.  I appreciate the shit out of musicians who can turn a song into a completely different genre without ruining it.  These guys fucking kick ass.

So I'm sitting on the couch the other night watching movies with my 4 and 3 year old girls.  I'm half ass-checked out and playing on my phone.  We're watching 'Sing'.   I'm listening and I hear this voice and am thinking to myself "man, I've heard this beautiful opera song before".

Then I sit up and finally start paying attention and basically say out loud "Holy shit!!! That's Golden Slumbers!!!!"   Jennifer Hudson took this one to her house and put it in the hall closet.

I saw Midlake in a small Houston club around 2007. Was with a big group that was mostly interested in staying near the bar during the opener,  so I decided to go up front.

This tiny girl with big red nerdy glasses walks on stage and proceeds to blow my mind for 45 minutes. Never seen anything like her and I'll always remember that moment. I'm glad Annie Clark made it big, truly deserving and an amazing talent.

I always come back to this great cover.

I celebrate all things Annie Clark.  Unfortunately, part of that celebration is muted by the fact that (a) I'm married and (b) Annie would prefer my wife.

I’m still furious about C3’s biggest ACL scheduling fuckup ever, 3 years ago when they put St. Vincent and Erykah Badu on at the same time. How does that even happen?

I was dating a girl that wanted to go see Beck rather than see Alison Krauss/Robert Plant.  She didn’t make it to wife material and that was kind of the tipping point.

I had forgotten about that.  Hey, it's a huge festival in Austin, let's put two incredibly influential female artists from Dallas in competition with each other!

Booker: Great news!  we’ve got two of the three most famous and influential  musicians from the same high school, which also happens to be the premier performing arts high school in our state!

C3 Scheduler: awesome! Let’s put them on at the same time!

Their cover of can’t let go is outstanding

I think their cover of 'Killin' the Blues' is pure magic.  Alison's angelic voice mixed with the harmonies of Plant that show why he was the quintessential rock god.  Just absolutely incredible.

It doesn't get much better than Plant and Patty Griffin doing "Going To California" at the Continental Club with a bunch of bitchass tech and finance bros talking over them.  Fuckers.

Last night our band opened up for Nether Hour at The Continental Club in Houston. Anyone here seen them? They reside in Austin. Goddamn, they are fucking great. We had no business being on the same stage as them. Just found this killer cover.

OK, this is a bit of a cheat because it's Sara's song, but holy shit Rufus!

My God, that is beautiful.  Rufus and Sara FTW.

Damn Robert's voice sounds fantastic.

I wonder how many of those guys still think "holy shit I'm in a band with Robert Plant!".  EDIT:  see, for instance, the smile on the bass player's face at 1:40.

The bass player is grinning for most of the video.  Love to see that type of joy on a player's face.

Oh absolutely, but that moment I pointed out where he's looking over at the drummer seems to have a true Cheshire Cat vibe to it, like they're getting away with something.

Great version of a cool song. Also of note:

- female background singer in the thumbnail is gorgeous (main reason I clicked it tbh) and has a sexy as hell voice

- brunette fan on camera at about :29 and :37 is smoking hot and knows the words so she must be cool. She needed way more air time

The Bangles' "Hazy Shade of Winter" is better than Simon & Garfunkel's.

Also: They are all better looking, today and back then, than Paul & Art were in their prime.

Metallica's version of "Am I Evil?" is better than Diamonhead's original.

Diamondhead's 2020 re-recording of it is better than Metallica's.
