Another Bucknutts perspective...

What departure of Mike Yurcich means for Ryan Day, Ohio State

LOL at them claiming they need better recruiting from that position. The whole article is is them trying to convince themselves they pushed him to Texas. Well done.

I could buy the part about Yurcich wanting a bigger role, and Day and Wilson not letting him have one. But that's not "pushing him out," that's just putting restraints on him. He chose not to accept those limitations, for better or worse.

It will be interesting to see how much autonomy Herman gives him, given this context.

“We signed 2 of the top QBs in the 2020 class. But he needs to recruit better”

The tea leaves had been indicating Beck was not only reassigned, but is likely leaving. The official team Twatter calls Yurcich “QB Coach” as well as OC, so that would seem to seal the deal on Beck’s departure, right?

Can’t imagine he stays. Wouldn’t hate if he coached TE for recruiting purposes

Prison Mike is right, Beck is a stud recruiter, but I’m also not sure he’d want that role (TE or WR) or if he’d be suited for it.

He's coached every position on offense, except TEs. However, if Carrier and Beaty are those coaches moving forward, I think recruiting will be fine.

For the last fucking time, we dont need fucking recruiters. Texas recruits itself. We are all but assured a top 10-15 class every year, regardless of results.

what we need are coaches that can fucking develop talent

Your right and I sure as hell hope this is the last fucking time you have to bring it up.

That's what USC thought before they hauled in a Mountain West class this year. You need some salesmen. Ideally they'll be good at coaching, too.

The fact that this stupid shit has any likes speaks to the volume of mouth breathers on the main football board. We have seen all too well what happens when we relied solely on our on the field success while lacking good recruiters on this staff. Or perhaps you just slept through 2009 until Strong took over?

It’s not an either/or situation. Great programs do both and we need to do both well to compete against Oklahoma again.

Lmao. This staffs problem has never been recruiting. We’ve out recruited OU on the reg and still are averaging like 7 wins this decade

Any staff can recruit at Texas. Yes, we had a bad 6 year run of recruiting (which was bad but still pretty darn good - good enough that we should have been winning at least 8-9 games a year in the weakass big 12) that coincided with the worst 6 year  stretch in program history. But no fucking way in hell has recruiting been a bigger problem at Texas than talent development

nor will it ever be

No, the problem in that period was evaluation. Do we need to go over class rankings from 2009 until Strong arrived?

2009 - #6

2010 - #2

2011 - #4

2012 - #2

2013 - #17 (only 15 recruits, #7 in average recruit rating)

So not sure how your time period refutes his point about a nearly guaranteed top 15 class. When Brown was lazy as shit and not evaluating we still pulled in 4 straight top 6 classes.

I cannot believe we are reliving this but hey what they fuck. Evaluation is the integral part of recruiting. It’s like saying I’m good at football but suck at throwing, tackling and running. It’s quite obvious our recruiting rankings were grossly overstated and we became lazy in evaluating properly. We were more concerned with signing kids early than recruiting and signing the right players.

And that’s because our staff had shitty recruiters who became lazy. Unless you think all of those four star receivers Bobby Kennedy signed were worthy of their ranking?  Baylor and TCU recruited circled around us despite the bull shit rankings.

The other thing that happened with poorly performing but high ranked classes is that the staff had to pick high rated recruits with major red flags because they got out-recruited for the guys with no red flags. Strong did that with several guys, as did Mack in the late years.

It’s not an either/or proposition, which is why your posts are so fucking stupid. Plenty of teams have great recruiters that are also great developers of talent. Most of those teams were in the playoffs this year. And having elite recruiters on staff absolutely matters. There’s a world of difference between a top 10 - 15 class and a top 5 class.

Where the fuck did i say either/or? Youre piggypacking off of Deweys lack of reading comprehension

jfc, for the last fucking time, it is more important to hire a staff that has a better track record of developing players than it is to hire a staff who are great recruiters. Id rather have someone who has set the world on fire continuously with subpar talent than someone who can recruit well but only win 6-7 games

No shit Sherlock. No one ever said otherwise. You acted like people saying we need some good recruiters on staff we’re also saying they don’t need to be good coaches. It kind of goes without saying that people hope the guy we hire to coach TEs is actually good at coaching TEs, but apparently  you need that spelled out for you.

And once again, recruiting ability and coaching ability are not exclusive propositions. I’d rather have someone who can do both, especially at a position like TE, where the coach is only responsible for coaching about 4 - 5 players.

recruiting skill absolutely matters and your idea that recruiting ability doesn’t matter at all because the school automatically recruits itself is fundamentally stupid. The school establishes a floor, but you need good recruiters to reach Texas’ ceiling.

Go look at the list of ncaa champions and tell us how many of those consistently only had top 15 recruiting classes as opposed to much higher average rankings. Big difference between top 10/5 and top 15.
