Fuck whoever was coach when he played at Texas.

That would be Mack Brown.  Unless you mean the O-line coach.  Hopkins was a four year starter so he had multiple position coaches, starting with McWhorter.  Him being undrafted is more on lazy risk-averse NFL scouts than on Texas.  Mack knew what he had, and after Trey’s first fall camp told anyone who would listen that he was going to be really good.

According to NFL Network, the deal is worth $20.4 million, with $4.5 million guaranteed via roster bonus.

Hopkins, who is playing this season on a one-year deal worth $3.1 million, was set to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

it's almost as if we had raw talent during that era that just wasn't being developed or used properly.

good thing we've got that corrected.

What you just stated above is reason #1 why we keep losing out on elite in-state talent.  There's a prevailing sense among the private coaching crowd that for whatever reason talent gets squandered on our campus. And kids don't reach their full potential.  And this sentiment has now been pushed across 3 different coaching regimes.
