God doesn't speak to black people.  Look at photos of Jesus. He's white!

Every time I think of Christianity I think of this sketch from Key & Peele.

because the marginal risk to a football player seems very low to me, or maybe even better if they play football.  I don't think the off field social distancing by the average player would be better than a lockerroom that is sanitized all the time by the sorts of staff D1 programs are able to roll out.

but the lawsuit risk is way too high because invariably some would get sick. in short (and in morbid terms): there are going to be deaths this fall of some D1 players.  I'm not all that sure that there will be more while playing football. there might be less.

Like all those big fat linemen who spend the entire game face-to-face grunting and breathing hard with exerted effort to shove the other guy out of the way? I dunno. Those guys seem especially susceptible to catching and spreading it among a group that, in all likelihood, are at greater risk of heart issues during their lifespans.

I really don't think you've thought this through. Like at all.

So if players get a known infectious disease that kills them, then there should be zero liability for the money makers because you think that they might have gotten it somewhere else, also? And you think that college football should be played this fall despite professing the belief that there will be deaths. You want them to play even though some of them will die. Honest question, what's wrong with you?

If the players are not playing then their safety is their responsibility. They are in control of their behavior and their environment. If some of them were to die it would be tragic. But we don't need to upend the entire concept of liability just so you can watch football. If you were actually concerned with their safety and truly believed that the campus bubble would keep them safer, then what you'd be proposing would be for them to stay on campus and in that bubble but not play any games. Games involve additional staff, travel, unknown third party contacts, etc.

I have a buddy who is one of the smartest people I know who is using the same argument.  I'm trying to flesh out why he thinks this, other than that he wants to watch football.

Enjoy!

Enjoy yet another rambling, incoherent, blather session that ultimately hurts our standing in the world and has a non-zero chance of putting into motion events that create a time paradox, the result of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe! Granted, that's worst-case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localized, limited to merely our own galaxy.

When asked about playing Fantasy Football this year and if I thought there would be an NFL season, I said yes there will be an NFL season but once a lineman drops it is over. I think most everyone may be OK especially since these athletes are in great shape. Yet obesity + covid has proven to be a killer regardless of age. The guys on the offensive line are in good health compared to some of us but some are obese and not just muscular.

I fully expect Trump to sign an Executive Order requiring the entire college football season to be played. We're going to Baton Rouge baby!

Too bad Kelly didn't take her own advice during the impeachment vote.  Then maybe we could be safely getting ready for college football.

Players who want to play college football should be heard because they're helping the economy.

Players in the WNBA who think she sucks and don't want her in office should be silent.

Kelly is getting a lot of play using the latter as a culture war. She's happy to insert herself in this discussion too.

Well, my street in deep red Montgomery County got it's first Trump / Pence sign today after the first two Trump signs vanished around the time of the Tulsa hootenanny.

Maybe Biden will finally get off his ass and pick a VP candidate so I can order my Biden / Whothefuckever 2020 sign.

I'm also in Montgomery County. I'm dismayed by the fact that there actually more Trump signs and gigantic flags flying from Jeep Wranglers in my subdivision than in '16.

I would like a version of the first one, but with something along the lines of "FUCK THAT GUY.  ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!"

If there was an actual attempt in his life I don’t think there would be 25 people in the briefing room still.

Trump says there was a shooting outside the White House, can only hope its Stephen Miller

maybe he was having a discussion with Bill Barr at the time and we hit the daily double.

I think what he's saying is the police shot someone outside the WH.  But who the fuck knows.  And I couldn't listen to another second of the piece of shit speaking, so maybe we'll find out later.  Or maybe not.

according to the daily mail, it was a secret service involved shooting.

Quote

President Donald Trump was escorted from his press conference on Monday less than five minutes after it began after law enforcement shot a suspect who was firing at the White House. 'There was a shooting outside of the White House and it seems to be very well under control,' President Trump said after he returned to the room. 'I'd like to thank the Secret Service for doing their always quick and very effective work. There was an actual shooting and somebody has been taken to the hospital.  I don't know the condition of the person. Seems that the person was shot by the Secret Service, so we will see what happens,' he said.

does he realize that what he says would be a lot more believable if he spared the exaggeration, just you know, on occasion to mix it up?  if i was talking to someone about texas football, i feel like it would hurt the argument.

"how are the horns looking this year?"

"i think they're gonna be pretty good, they'll be tough."

"all right, sounds good."

"they're going to be, some are saying, the best they've ever been."

"really?"

"a lot of people, they're going to be, nobody ever thought possible, they'll be better than they've ever been, or anyone has ever been, nobody thought a football team could be this good, nobody thought it was possible, for any sports team, you know that, back a few months ago, when people were talking about sports teams, you know, this is going to be way beyond what anyone ever thought was possible, in organized sports, for a team to be this powerful and successful, so much beyond anyone's expectations."
