Donald Trump 2020

I have little knowledge of that area so I defer to your legal and general background. My take, which is completely baseless and unsubstantiated, would likely fall under either the 'I know what it is when I see it,' aka "is that porn? I think that is porn." or the "if Dan Patrick can somehow get an entire group of people outraged over bathrooms, then outrage against a President pimping his golf resorts is allowable" defense. In other words, you're dealing with the finite and precise, I'm just gonna be mad about it and say it's wrong.

And you’re not wrong. It’s just that the judgment happens at the ballot box, not in the courtrooms.

That said, if I was running for president, I’d have on my agenda the “Executive accountability act of 2021” as a priority. Absolutely make corruption violations of the constitution actionable and enforceable by either 1) any person with a particularized injury (eg, competing hotels and such), or 2) the attorney general or chief legal officer do any state, acting on behalf of the people of that state (or something like that to reduce the chances of angry citizen x suing every president every day).

Of course, we wouldn’t need any of this is we weren’t a failed state run by a criminal enterprise. We had a failsafe - the senate. And it failed. We can be destroyed from within quite easily now.

Productive Mother’s Day.

The President really ought to flip a few pages over from 2 Corinthians Karenthians and check out 2 Peter(s):

"But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire."

I don't think Stelter is the canine here, sir.

If the President refuses to speak with my representative unless he/she stays at his resort(s), is that only accountable with my vote?

You're catching on to the "standing/injury" prong of it, which is one, but not the only aspect of the difficulty in trying to sue on the Constitution without a statute.

I only "picked on" you because you mentioned "ethics laws," which there are none applying to the President.  Except the Emoluments Clause.  And then I explained why that's problematic, despite there being what seems to be a pretty clear violation of it.

And, as brisket alludes, the Supreme Court may decide that although his actions are unconstitutional, he's only answerable for it by impeachment.  Kind of like criminal acts committed by the President in office (although the Supreme Court has never ruled on that).

It's not 'picking on,' at least from my perspective. I learn things and don't mind if someone has more background or knowledge of a topic. I struggle with the emoluments and understanding how that works and even pronouncing it. This President is a mistake writ large. I worry that a future President will really burn it all down if Trump doesn't get to the matches first.

This is how numb we are as a country.

The President, during a national pandemic and when the death toll is about to pass 80,000 ppl, just tweeted an advertisement HIS eponymous company that he never dissolved his interest from.... and no one is going to do shit about it.

“Oh, I do wish he’d tone down the Twitter a bit, but really, Trump is doing a great job.”

Weird that a theory of unethical behavior would fall apart when it is vetted by a corrupt and unethical Administration, Senate, and increasingly captive judicial branch.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Is he though?
You I would think after getting away with the Iran-Contra cover up he wouldn't be stupid enough to jump into this administration but here we are. I think at this point he thinks he's bulletproof.

Because he is. The GOP is 100% above and apart from the law now.

Barr has an insidious agenda to accrete power to the executive and diminish power of the other branches.  He's smart and he's good at it, and he knows it.

He can use Trump's over-the-top bullshit to his own ends a lot of the time by defending it in court or creating rules or policies that permit it to continue.  I'm not sure he either approves or disapproves of what Trump's doing, but he can USE IT.

But I think even he is appalled by some of the shit Trump pulls (in terms of stupidity and brazenness).  Trump has almost blown Barr's cover a couple of times.  Which I think explains why you've heard a couple of times that Barr has threatened to resign.  He probably really has because Trump is such a dolt.

Ugh. I saw a new Trump ad this morning. It was an obscene cutup of quotes taken out of context from people like Andrew Cuomo and Gavin Newsom. Grand claims of his success against the pandemic. Greatest economy ever. Shots of fighter jet flyovers for the health care workers. It was a farce.

it was a farce, but looking at it objectively, it was a very well done and effective campaign ad, IMO.

I wont be voting for him.

great marks from who?

Do you think anyone outside the US is looking at us and thinking, damn, they are doing a great job!!! We are riddled with this virus and it is not going away.

Friggin' Disneyland has been closed for nearly 8 weeks and not opening anytime soon. That is not a sign of a healthy America or getting good marks.

Just think about the accurate adjectives for our President.

Our President is the most
Deceitful
Juvenile
Embarrassing
Cowardly
Hypocritical
Narcissistic
Fraudulent
Moron in the history of the Presidency. By a mile.

Tl; dr.  What appears to be a straightforward application of the language of the Constitution is anything but.  And it's not because the judiciary under Trump is corrupt.  Without a law from Congress, the issues presented would be thorny no matter who is President and what judges we have.

so if congress has to get off its ass to pass a law defending the collective citizens of our country against a potentially corrupt president, can the new law prohibiting violation of the emoluments act be called, "the trump clause" or "restriction" or something?  he loves putting his name on things, and i think this would be the ideal legacy for him.

who do i call about this?  i live in ca-28 and my congressman is schiff, adam (d).

Does this clown do anything but watch TV?

Only one of these two organizations has a 10-figure debt with the Chinese?...National Amusements (owns CBS) and the Trump Organization.

Remind me who wants to do business more with China again.

I mean, just ask his supporters to take their fucking MAGA hats off and read the tag inside for fuck's sake.

Does any rational person think the Chinese Communist Party is gonna let a investigative news outlet like 60 Minutes within their borders to ask questions?  No.

Does any rational person think China played off Trump's ego and lent him way more money than he'd ever be able to pay back?  Yes.

If you want to see the 60 Minutes story that Trump is melting down about, it's now up on their website.  Caution though - it will likely make you (as it did me) very ragey.

I wish I was clever enough to build and maintain an anti-Trump campaign app.   Something akin to the Onion that mocks everything they put out within hours.   Do the same thing, make it a game, give points and prizes.   It would crush his grifting app hard.

The irony of this guy rolling out the word "fake" and "phony' at least 10 times a day. When hes got his bullshit "reporters " in the back of the room asking bullshit questions. All of his people, senators and congressmen lining up bullshit to make him look better.

All of that and his ads bring the movie "Wag the Dog" to life.
