Atlantic City to auction off chance to blow up Trump's former casino

Mayor says Trump ‘openly mocked’ Atlantic City and that it plans to donate the money to charity

The Trump Plaza Hotel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, pictured in 2010. The casino has since fallen into disrepair.

One of Donald Trump’s former Atlantic City casinos will be blown up next month, and for the right amount of money, you could be the one to press the button that brings it down.

The demolition of the former Trump Plaza casino will become a fundraiser to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City that the mayor hopes will raise in excess of $1m.

Opened in 1984, Trump’s former casino was closed in 2014 and has fallen into such a state of disrepair that demolition work began earlier this year. The remainder of the structure will be dynamited on 29 January.

“Some of Atlantic City’s iconic moments happened there, but on his way out, Donald Trump openly mocked Atlantic City, saying he made a lot of money and then got out,” said Marty Small, the mayor. “I wanted to use the demolition of this place to raise money for charity.”

The Boys & Girls Club has hired a professional auction company to solicit bids from Thursday through 19 January, when the top bids will be revealed and a live auction will determine a winner. The organization provides after-school and summer recreation, education and career-training programs for Atlantic City children and teens.....

About as depressing of a place/city I've ever been to.

I'm starting to think all the worry about Trump getting security briefings is misplaced. What the fuck will he possibly hear that the Russians won't already know?

No, the more likely scenario is that they bump him off because of their fear that he'll spread Russian secrets.

Um...no shit.  Just like most fears about him - people discount how stupid he is and just how short his attention span is.

Instead of the vaccine, can we get him shot up with some thorazine or something?

I'm thinking a cocktail of propofol, pentobarbital, and thiopental.

Because one of the two of us needs to be in a coma, and hey, I've got responsibilities. He's gonna be unemployed in a month, so it's really just a question of prioritizing the producers, right?

Dibs on "Unappreciative Lands" for my band name.  It's a Donald tribute band.  We do Junior's stash of blow and cover tunes by the Village People with full irony.

Ummmm, Lindsay Served in the Air Force Graham wants to push back on Mail-in Voting?

I had a friend, who has never been on a military base, let alone served in the military, explain to me that the military mail in voting is done in a very strict manner, with officers and NCOs watching over everyone to make sure that there was no hanky panky.  According to this genius, the unit gets everyone's ballots, sits everyone down at the same time to fill them out, takes them all up, checks them for completeness and correctness, then sends them all back at the same time.  He couldn't tell me how he knew this, it just made the most sense to him.

Not true in any sense when I was in.  They didn't give a fuck whether you voted or not.

I didn't know you could symbolically veto veto-proof legislation.

Because he knows the spineless GOP will ultimately side with him and not override it

This. They can vote for the bill but vote against overriding a veto. I expect enough gutless pieces of shit to do so because trumps mushroom cock is so far up their ass their voters would put them on the "deep state" assassination list.

It still goes through the process of going to the President's desk, being vetoed or signed, and then an override vote.

wait what? so it goes back to vote in the senate to "override" even though the initial passing was veto-proof?

Because he has to sign it if it is veto-proofed. The executive branch executes the law. He is compelled by the constitution to sign it, it's not optional.

The power of veto is there because if a bill passes and the president is like nah fuck that it's too hard to enforce or I don't like it. Then they must override his veto with a vote.

If a bill comes in that is not vetoable why would you need to have a 2nd vote? the constitution already handles this and he is compelled and obligated to sign it into law.

that's my understanding as well, but it's been 20+ years since I studied the constitution

Yes. He vetoes, and then congress overrides with a super majority of 2/3 of each house and does not require subsequent signature.

Right.  And congressmen don't have to vote same way on override vote.  Nothing is veto-proof as a technical matter.  You can't vote to override until it has been vetoed

that's the part I didn't know. Thought if the initial vote exceeded the 2/3 in both it was veto-proof.
