This would make a great Meidas or other anti-Maga add.  The greatest Generation vs the MAGA generation

The analogy to WW2 and the sacrifices the American public made during that time has been forefront in my brain since the beginning of all this mess (particularly once it became clear that we should ALL mask up).  WW2 was a moral imperative, and on the whole everyone did their part to contribute to the effort, both at home and abroad.  The inspirational nature of these years long sacrifices (minimal sacrifices / medium sacrifices / and ultimate sacrifices) are all a part of something that has lived in my heart as a shining example of what WE are capable of when we put each other ahead of ourselves.

There are millions of folks making these sacrifices during COVID, even those giving their lives to help care for fellow Americans and fight this insidious virus.  We should ALL be pulling together to support one another.  Everyone mask up, limit contact and contribute to the "war effort" against the virus, and we will be ok and try to learn from such a pivotal moment in our history.  Sadly, depressingly, crushingly, there is not enough tying us together, not enough pride and love for one another and country, to limit the damage.  We are incapable of suppressing our selfishness long enough to see the bigger picture, do our part, and ensure that people dont die meaninglessly whilst the country itself goes tits-up.  Yes there has been a deep schism in American society for a very long time, but ultimately you WANT to believe in better angels and that folks will give the slightest of fucks by putting a piece of fabric on their face while in public spaces.  This isnt about politics, its science/disease/facts.  But it DONT.  MAKE.  A.  SHIT.

So we will continue to FAAFO, and continue to fail spectacularly wrt to aggressively stamping out COVID.  Its fucking exhausting.

Yea, I cant imagine the reaction to stuff like ration books, fuel rations, and scrap drives with our current society.  "Patriots" would be front and center leading the charge against the greater good screaming SOCIALISM.  Asking Rednecks to swap their big steel brushguards and bumpers for some wood shit for the greater good would probably lead to more deaths than covid.

Who thinks DT will win the GOP nomination in '24?

I don't know if he'll actually run.  Probably depends on how his financial situation plays out over the next four years.  If he does run, I don't think he'll get the nomination.  His formula worked in '16; it didn't work in '20.  Politics seems to move on from its losers pretty quickly.

He won't be running because he'll either be in prison, have fled the country, or will be holed up in Florida awaiting extradition.  But if he did run, he would ABSOLUTELY get the nomination.  His cult ain't going away.  If anything, they're going to get worse.

I agree MAGA is the exact opposite of WWII mentality, but I think y'all are wrong that people couldn't get back into WWII mode if it popped up again.  MAGA basically needs enemies to survive.  Right now, the enemy is fellow countrymen -- the educated, the urban.  They instinctively act in opposition to those values.  If we declared war on the Chinese tomorrow, the Chinese would be the enemy.  You'd see instinctive reaction to hurt the Chinese, and they'd be just as rockflageagle about it as they are now.  These people are without principles.  They are pointed in whatever direction their leaders tell them to be.

We should be so lucky.  I don't think he'll be in prison or in exile.  Holed up in Florida, maybe.  I don't see much political advantage in going after him for the Dems.  Their strategy has been to cast themselves as the non-crazy adults in the room and it worked.  Going after him will just make the Dems look vindictive and obsessed. I like their approach, which is "Moving along." Whether to prosecute him should not be a political decision anyway.

The Trumpstains/Neocons/Fascists are not going away, but I don't see their numbers swelling either. They still represent a significant part of the GOP base, but it's not enough to win a presidential election.  I think the GOP is going to have to step back from the edge of the cliff if they are going to win the presidency in the next 20 years. Trump cannot be a part of that movement.

Of course they robbed the campaign. His campaign manager flaunted it. Almost a billion disappeared and the media went with the simpleton explanation that the campaign had merely unwisely waged a real campaign. IT WAS FUCKING OBVIOUS WHAT WAS HAPPENING. Even I opined as much as soon as the story broke.

Stop assuming that just because Trump doesn't know anything about anything other than scheming to steal and get himself out of trouble that he's not proficient at the things he concentrates on.

Thanks for posting this and all the other stuff you post, Henry. I can still be astounded that something that I and others have seen as obvious can become a news story months later. This scam dovetails perfectly with Trump's current fundraising to STOP THE STEAL except I'll be stealing the stop the steal fund, you idiots  efforts.

It's not a political decision.  It's the right thing to do.  There have to be consequences for his actions.  I expect it will be all state crimes.  Also, you said nomination.  Not presidency.  He absolutely would win the nomination.

Yeah, I'm assuming that the GOP would not nominate someone who had zero chance of winning the general.  I guess I just want really badly to put all things Trump in the rear view mirror and never look back.

You think the GOP has any say in this?  They do whatever the cult wants or they get vanished.  That's how this works.

Donald Trump increased his voters by 10 million and only lost this election by something like 65,000 voters across three states and you think he'd have no chance at winning in 2024 after Biden spends his entire 4 years letting the GOP Senate sabotage any economic recovery efforts?

And 40% of the country will think it’s “fake news “.

Two years from now, the DOJ, CIA, FBI, NSA and whatever other acronym agency could hold a joint press conference, with full details, receipts, phone records, bank transactions...literally any kind of physical evidence that could be produced showing the Trump family grifted millions not only from the gullible public, but the federal government itself...and laundered this money in countless ways.

It would be breathtaking in scale.

And 40% would say it's fake news.

This,  These people aren't going away and cannot be reasoned with.  They live in an alternate reality.

The irony is that the Regan era enemy was Soviet Russia and now we have a Russian controlled president.

So, yeah.  I had forgotten that as a former President, Trump is eligible to receive funds from GSA for "office space".

In FY 2016, GW received just over a million in pension, office space, printing, etc.  This link covers up to FY 18, and includes Obama

Other than pension, I have no idea if these amounts are fixed, or can be adjusted according to cost.  I have no doubt that Trump isn't going to use any of this money on some kind of post-office staff, as Maggie is mentioning in the tweet below:

The starkest difference with the culture of WW2 era Americans is the pervasive influence of misinformation and proliferation of malcontent today. Rush, Hannity and Q can join you in your living room morning, noon and night telling you to be angry and afraid. Cultivating the worst in us is quite the cottage industry. Hobble that industry and perhaps we can start being fellow Americans again.

If they'd been around back then, we 100% would have stayed out of the war in Europe and cooperated with the Nazi regime, both overtly and covertly.  It's really not even a hypothetical.

Here come the family Pardons. I would say campaign fraud on this scale is unheard of, but I kind of feel like anyone who donated to the campaign gets what they deserve.

I'd bet he violated some State campaign laws in the process of doing that.  New York would be happy to add it to their list.

It matters little, but I think that neocons, among recentish conservative movements, are the most likely to be identified as anti-Trump.  Lincoln Project is mostly former neocons, IIRC.  Tea Partiers/Freedom Caucusers are the ones you're looking for there.

But it was around then. You guys know “America First” was a thing then. So were conservative racist broadcasters. Father Coughlin anyone?

We were at each other’s throats until we found a good lot of external enemies to unite us.
