You do know the media serves the public and not Trump right? The media is supposed to be critical of those in power. It’s a form of accountability.

Trump doesn’t like accountability so he demonizes anyone critical of him.

this isn’t difficult

Funny... in J312 class and subsequent journalism classes at UT I was taught the role of the media was to provide citizens with accurate information.

But if you want to believe it has a completely different role -- to be critical of those in power -- then we can easily see why whether or not there is accuracy in the criticism is completely irrelevant to you and your Trump-hating ilk.

By the way -- were you a huge supporter of Fox News, Rush, Hannity, Breitbart, Drudge, etc. for their criticisms of Obama? I must have missed those posts during that eight-year period in which you believed the media was supposed to be critical of him and the Democrats.

Because if it weren't for CNN, Trump would only be doing great things.  The most marvelous bestest things.  He's only an imbecile because the damn MSM reports the words that come out of his mouth and through his fingertips.  Oh yeah, and his actions.  Otherwise, all would be fine.

That's probably because of 1) the criticisms were grounded in truth unlike the CNN vitriol and 2) you clearly don't understand what the role of the media in our representative republic is.

Also, can you think of a time when a reporter from a news network has told the president's press secretary what she should be saying? Acosta's tantrum last week was a complete abandonment of what the roles of the reporter, the press secretary and the president have been in a White House briefing. The press secretary gives a statement, then explains what the president's position is in response to questions from reporters who've been called on. It's not, and it never has been, the role of the press secretary to give his or her opinions on topics.

Of lesser concern is that Acosta was having to shout down his peers in the media in order to engage in his grandstanding prima donna act. If Acosta wants the press secretary to say that the press isn't the enemy of the people, then he should run for president so he can direct the press secretary to say that.

Additionally, Acosta's tantrum reeks of gender bias/misogyny, but few pundits would dare comment on that aspect of the exchange when the liberal perspective is that Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a "traitor to her gender."

All of this is why CNN has become a farce. If more than 800,000 people were watching, I'd be concerned about it. As it is, it's simply another distraction from the unparalleled success this president is enjoying on domestic and foreign fronts.

LOL.

Okay. Sure.

Fox News. Breitbart. Say something bad about them instead of attacking Jim Acosta.

You pussy.

A press secretary shouldn't need the President's permission to say the press isn't the enemy of the people because he shouldn't be saying it in the first place.  This is America 101.  Like not conspiring with Russia against our own countrymen or equivocating for Nazis.

Also, the first thing you should have learned in a UT journalism class, assuming your tiny brain wasn't drenched in chlorine:

Quote

In the Thirteen Colonies before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the media was subject to a series of regulations. British authorities attempted to prohibit the publication and circulation of information of which they did not approve.

The First Amendment permits information, ideas and opinions without interference, constraint or prosecution by the government.[1][2] It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.

He didn't say the press was the enemy of the people, but by watching CNN's false reporting you've been led to believe that.

Trump also isn't inspiring a "hate movement" against the media but again, if you're watching CNN you'd be led to believe that. First of all, the term is reserved for those persecuted based on race, ethnicity, national origin, gender or sexual preference and not career choice. Secondly, Trump has not called for "hostility or violence" against any member of the media. But, you know, aside from those two issues that make this an inherently inaccurate statement, I guess this is somehow acceptable in today's media?

I hate to agree with Swam here, but there is no denying the fact that Obama did wear a tan suit and he indeed did prefer dijon mustard. Also, I've done my research on his greatest scandal, and can confirm, Obama smoked a cig from time to time. Of course the libtards at CNN never covered those hard hitting scandals like the patriots at Fox.

That's actually not what the First Amendment says. It says "Congress shall make no law..." If you want to define a president claiming a media report as false as somehow being interference, then you can do so. But there's not a First Amendment violation when the subject of a report who holds political office says it's inaccurate or when the subject of a report who holds political office criticizes the source.

If what you say is true, that Trump didn't say the media is the enemy of the people, then why didn't she just say that?  Seems like it would've been the perfect place to do so.

It's because everyone in that room knows he hates the media (except for the sycophants at Fox) and has said as much.

Unparalleled success? Literally every single president in my lifetime has had more success than this president and I was born during the Nixon administration.

Well, then, I think you owe Swam an apology -- unparalleled it is.

Trump says the fake news is the enemy of the people.   Trump has defined "fake news" as any media that reports negative information about him.  Which means all news sources except state propagandists:

Driving from Dallas to Austin today, I listened to Laura Ingram and Rush Limbaugh for awhile. The party line is attack the press as irrelevant and dishonest and unwilling to report on the unprecedented success of Trump. Nobody cares about the Russia investigation where in two whole years nothing has turned up to support "what they say they are looking for." In short, the same lies and distortions their followers spew on this thread.

Ingram is terrible. I'd never listened to her before. Her voice and spin show no wit.

Limbaugh still functions well as the liberal spokesperson he's always been. The non-existent liberals he projects onto are still out there and out of their minds with rage at losing to Trump and not knowing how to handle the fact that he's a different breed of cat.

Lay all that alongside watching CNN show excerpts from the Dem candidates at some function over the weekend was pretty sickening. "He's trying to divide us, we must stick together!" Dynamic message there. "Americans prefer not to be divided!" Um, maybe check the rabid support for Trump before asserting that with a straight face.

All in all, a depressing reminder that an ill wind is blowing the republic onto the rocks of a stupid and hostile shore.

I'm not sure if she is a traitor to her gender but she may be an affront to homo erectus.

I used to listen to Rush quite a bit in the past, and Ingraham a little. It's really weird to watch them appear to turn a blind eye to DOTUS smashing china like a bull.

Part of it is rooting for their team no matter what. It also makes you wonder how involved they are in whatever corruption Trump drags along in his wake.

I contend they don't give a shit nor do they believe most of what they say. It's a show which makes them a lot of money, and will only continue to make them money if their ratings stay high enough. So each day they sing and dance the song and dance that will get them the most money.

Gotta sell precious metals ads and shit -- keep the olds scared and listening, whatever it takes.

P.T. Barnum would raise a toast to someone that could put on a show for 30 years based on nothing -- if that's what Rush has done.

Seems like they don't care about the means, just the end. They got somebody in the WH who will not listen to anybody, even his counselors. He will keep the browns out of the country, lower taxes for corporations (trickle down), and beat back the tree huggers.

What frustrates you more... the booming economy that's positively impacted all sectors of the workforce or the rebirth of America as a global military power, highlighted by the eradication of ISIS in Iraq and Syria?

ISIS- possible due to W's invasion of Iraq and resulting power vacuum
IRAN- verifiable treaty that prevented Iran from developing nuclear weapons
OBAMACARE- Healthcare reform that insured millions of more Americans, slowed the rate of healthcare costs, and slashed medical bankruptcies in half before being sabotaged by Republicans

Yep. He called out five specific outlets. The American media is comprised of thousands of organizations. Have a nice night.

Here are things that the President has said re the media. That negative news against him = Fake. And Fake News = Enemy of America. Therefore, if somebody were to report on the fact that the president paid a porn star $120K to cover up that he was raw-dogging her (weird thing for a self-described germaphobe to do btw) while Melania was breastfeeding Barron, then that person, who is reporting a huge story that is now proven as factual, is the enemy of the American people in Trump's eyes and in the eyes of his dumbest, most loyal hillbilly followers like yourself. That's dictatorship stuff right there, glad your OK with it.

Also, I hope you had a wonderful night yourself, mine was pretty good, especially considering it was Monday.

Yep, that pesky First Amendment.  Such a nuisance.

Freedom of the press may be guaranteed in the Constitution. But a plurality of Republicans want to give President Trump the authority to close down certain news outlets, according to a new public opinion survey conducted by Ipsosand provided exclusively to The Daily Beast.

The findings present a sobering picture for the fourth estate, with respondents showing diminished trust in the media and increased support for punitive measures against its members. They also illustrate the extent to which Trump’s anti-press drumbeat has shaped public opinion about the role the media plays in covering his administration.

All told, 43 percent of self-identified Republicans said that they believed “the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior.” Only 36 percent disagreed with that statement. When asked if Trump should close down specific outlets, including CNN, The Washington Post, and The New York Times, nearly a quarter of Republicans (23 percent) agreed and 49 percent disagreed.

Republicans were far more likely to take a negative view of the media. Forty-eight percent of them said they believed “the news media is the enemy of the American people” (just 28 percent disagreed) while nearly four out of every five (79 percent) said that they believed “the mainstream media treats President Trump unfairly.”

Of course that only applies when there's a Republican President. Would have loved to see the numbers when it was Obama.
